I will try to explain, Sita maa was a warrior princess and yes she could have defeated Ravan easily.
but Vishnu ji had given a choice to Jay and Vijay(gatekeepers of Vishnuji) who were cursed by the four kumaras, the choice was to live 7 lives as devotees or 3 lives as enemies of Bhagwaan Vishnu. They chose the 3 lives as enemies as it was shorter period of time.
In treta yuga, Jay and Vijay were born as Ravan and Kumbhakaran, and due to their choice they were destined to be killed by Bhagwaan Vishnu.
In panchavati, when Ravan came to abduct Mata Sita. Prabhu Shri Ram already got to know that, and before going to kill the golden deer(Marich), he gave Mata Sita to Agni Dev and Chaya Sita took the place of real Sita Ma.
In Ashok Vatika, Mata Sita(at that time Chaya Sita) didn't allowed Hanumanji to fly her over to Shri Ram because of two reasons, 1. she as a married woman can't touch any other with her choice and 2. Ravan was destined to be killed by Prabhu Shri Rama.
And also Hanumanji also had the power to defeat Ravan but he didn't because of the same reason stated above.
Somnaath mandir has unbelievable vibes. 100% agreed on this. We had gone for morning aarti and still i get goosebumps remembering that experience. Somnaath is divine indeed.

Being born and raised in the U.S.A. We were taught by European western historians that Ramayan and the Mahabharat is a myth BUT the more I open my mind and do research on this topic , the more I realize that it is the real history of my people . I am so proud to be of Indian (Bharti) decent .

I was born in Allahabad and been to Chitrakoot when I was in first standard along with my family. I still remember my father bought a series of DVD's from Chitrakoot which explained Ramayana. That was my introduction to Chitrakoot and Ramayana. I didn't knew the period Lord Rama stayed in Chitrakoot but thanks to this podcast. Great to hear that Sri Lankan Govt. has planned an itinerary on the trails of Ramayana. Hope to visit that one day in future as well as reading the book which explains the trail in India and visiting that too. Hope to develop more robust approach this Diwali. Who were the Vanaras?
A. Were they Monkeys?
B. Were they Primitive tribes?
C. Were they a different race altogether?
D. None of the above
The answer is most emphatically none of the above.
Valmiki has spelt out in no uncertain terms that the Vanaras were वनचारिणः , people who roamed in the forests. And they were not a different race. Their genetic roots were the same as that of the city dwellers. Also not only they were physically very strong but they were extremely intelligent too. The Vanaras wore a tail and a headdress like a monkey 🐒 just as some tribal communities were horns on their head, but there is no doubt that they were humans. Even in our times fat cats in white shirts and black suits may look like penguins 🐧 but they are not penguins nor are the cats. They are CEOs , bankers and management consultants. And not all forest dwelling folks wore tails, some resembled bears 🐻.
Essentially Vanam raati iti Vanaraha, one who lives off the forest is a Vanara. Overtime the meaning became more limited and the word Vanar was used to denote monkeys only. Further Valmiki says ऋक्षीषु च तथा जाता वानराः किन्नरीषु च, some of the Vanaras were born to forest dwellers who dressed up like bears and Gandharvas. If Ruksha referred to bears and not to people who wear bear skin and if Vanaras referred to monkeys and not to people who wear face masks and a tail then the above sentence by Valmiki would mean that monkeys were born to bears which is obviously what he not meant. These forest communities were not a different race compared to the city dwellers. For Valmiki what he says distinguished Rishis, Siddhas, Vidhyadharas, Uragas, Charanas begot heroic sons who became forest dwellers. Note some of the Vanaras were born to Rishis just like some of the Rakshasas including Ravan as well as some of the citizens of Ayodhya and other cities. The notion that forest communities were primitive people that were racially different from city-based people is absolutely false. Vanaras were physically very powerful and they were also very intelligent, the intelligence part unfortunately got glossed over in some of the later retellings. But Valmiki is clear that the Vanaras were नयज्ञान्बुद्धिसम्पन्नान्विष्णुतुल्यपराक्रमान् knowers of statecraft endowed with intellect and equal to Vishnu in prowess. Further they were spread across forests and mountains throughout the world. Once again the notion that Vanaras were only in South India is completely incorrect. इयं पृथ्विवी सपर्वतवनार्णवा कीर्णा तैः Valmiki says this earth with mountains, forests, seas was pervaded by them and the earth became covered by them. Extremely unfortunately Vanaras always characterised as monkeys in popular culture, look at most contemporary comics, cartoons, or pictures on Ramayan. But look further back in history, there is no confusion. For e.g in the sculptures depicting Ramayan scenes at Ellora and Angkor wat, Hanuman and the Vanaras shown in form, size and proportion very similar to Ram and Lakshman the only difference they were wearing a mask and a tail.
After that background of the Vanaras in general Valmiki then introduces the leaders among the Vanaras who play a crucial role in the story later on Vali, Sugriv, Tara, Nal, Neel and Hanuman. Hanuman born in Kishkindha in present day Karnataka and unmatched popularity across Bharat. The Hanuman chalisa in Hindi, the Maruti Stotra in Marathi and similar prayers in all languages. He is on everyone's lips in times that call for brave actions or even otherwise. Now what made this Vanar reach such exalted stature we must look into Valmiki Ramayan.
In Valmiki Ramayan's Kishkindha kand, during the first event of first interaction of Hanuman, Sugreev and other Vanaras with Ram & Lakshman. Sugreev advices Hanuman before the meet, go as a human in your natural, ordinary form प्राकृतेनैव गत्वा and so कपिरूपं परित्यज्य भिक्षुरूपं ततो भेजे. Hanuman took off his monkey attire and went up to them dressed as an ascetic.
Now what is this monkey 🐒 attire that Hanuman is taking off? This is an important question. Valmiki had first introduced the vanaras as forest dwellers. But many of us modern readers are still unsure what to make of them. After all, a monkey 🐒 is called a vanar so were Sugreev, Vali, Hanuman and the other vanaras humans or monkeys? Or were they an advanced ape-specie? If they were humans were they racially different from the city dwellers? Were they a primitive tribe?
Let us take a short detour to understand all this better. In Kishkindha kand Valmiki tells us a lot about the vanaras, as we piece together all the clues it is clear that vanaras were humans. They were not a different race and they had the same cultural roots as the city dwellers.
Hanuman, Sugriva, Vāli and the rest were Kapis or Vānaras not monkeys in literal sense. They belonged to the lienage of Vāyu and Kapi. Since Kapi became synonymous with monkey in Laukika Sanskrit, later updaters of the
Rāmāyaṇa speculated them to be Vānaras as monkeys which we popularly know it as today unfortunately but it is incorrect from itihasic reality point of view.

I am not sure how true this is but in the cartoon Ramayaan when Raavan was about to die Shree Ram asked Lakshman to gain some wisdom or asked Raavan to share his wisdom with Laskhman. They say even in the evilest of people there prevails something Godly worth learning.

If you go to Laos, a city called Luang Prabang; there they believe that the highest mountain in Luang Prabang was brought by hanuman jee from Sri Lanka. Also they believe that Sita Maa used to reside in Laos. So much history of ours is unexplored because the missionaries wrote our history and they never wanted to show us that we are an ancient and proud race. (I have personally visited Laos and I am talking about my experience there. Similarly in HoChiMinh city in Vietnam, if you go to the natural history museum, 90% of artefacts are Hindu related. Sanatan teaches us how to live in the best way possible. Vedas have all the knowledges from science and philosophy. However, people like you are babies who think fantasising Doraemon is more important than trying to understand your own history. FYI Greek philosophers studied in Nalanda university. Period.

It is very well researched, and peppered with stories from the Ramayana and descriptions of the places these writers visit. It makes a perfect mix of travel-adventure and storytelling.
