He's the personification of everything that's wrong with the British political establishment. A public-school Oxbridge pillock who has zero clue about running this country, but gives endless lectures on how he supposedly ran the rest of the world by throwing away large amounts of British taxpayer cash on nutcase countries, whilst living a some sort of schoolboy fantasy that he's a 19th century statesman and latter-day Byron. It should not be forgotten that he is one of the 21 Tory tr41t0rs who tried to overthrow democracy during the rotten parliament of 2017-19.
@@costeris35 it makes it sound as if, if you do the opposite you'll be a good politician 🙂 whereas the message of the book is that the system makes it difficult for anyone to do a good job.
He actually addresses this at the end of the talk. It’s because the real title he’d want is “How Not To Be A Politician” but he worries that would impact his future prospects of being a politician again in the UK, so he went with a more measured titled for that audience
On your point about representation, to speak for groups of people is different than to think for groups of people, to provide a clear, mind, unbiased, and acute, that can address issues and solve problems. This is not happening in politics because, as you say, politicians are too interested in their re-election, repeating the party line.

I really enjoyed this book. It's called Politics on the Edge in the UK. Not sure why it needed a different title in the US tbh.
I never know why publishers do that. Well obviously because they think it will sell better but it often seems silly.
