In my 2019 Sportster 48 Special, there where cats inside the mufflers before the baffles. I didn't cut out the baffles as in the video, I just ran a cup saw on an extension thru the muffler. Wham Bam thank you Mam. sound Great!
@flatroc1 nice idea! I wana do the same for my 2020 sportster 48. I want to also use an extender with a 1 inch drill saw and make a hole in the baffle. Question bro .... did u lose back pressure or lose any performance with this easy/cheap mod? Have you had any issues in the 1 year or you would recommend this for others? Thanks a mil !
Hey man, I'm stationed at Bliss and had been trying to figure out how to remove the baffles from my Victory Cross Country 8 ball. Thanks for the demo. 14K,
I believe your baffles are either riveted or screwed in place, look behind or on the bike side of your pipes and look for rivets or screws. These will be whats holding them in place. If not, then I'm lost
Yeeesssss, it has such a beasty sound now. No problems with any backfire or pressure loss. Everything is good and the Exhaust roars when i start it up. Thanks for the video and help :D
Did this to my Night Train with a 1-3/4" hole saw. Worked great, took 20 minutes start to finish and left the exhuast fully mounted. Sounds nice and deep now, but still not obnoxiously loud.
I found this video over the Memorial day weekend. Thank you. My 2011 Harley Superlow sounds so good. Thank You. I will make a video. Called loud pipes. You saved me 700 bucks. here in Bama.
I just banged out the baffles on my 06' 883XL, Improved sound quality, no noticed loss in mileage. I drove an additional 8 miles over the expected 100mile stop for gas.
Sounds good, I have a 2014 Sportster "48". I went with the Vance and Hines short shot staggered in black. I added the quiet baffles because the stock V&H were pretty loud.
Very helpful. I mean you don’t have to put those factory exhausts backs on it. It sounds super super loud and so satisfying.hope you have good neighbors lol
Hi Chadd, thank you so very much for your great advice! You are a gentleman ~ sharing all these with others online. Wish I could buy you a case of beer or something. I guess we will go ahead ~ drill it (1 3/4") and pull out the baffle and see if there is that catalytics converter inside. And then start it to see how she runs. The worst will be we will have to put the damn thing back inside the pipe and secure it. Thanks much! Peter M.
Hi Chadd, thanks for the help! You have fun riding and fixing up your machines! I am currently overseas ... will be back to Minnesota/ Wisconsin next summer. Take care! Peter M.
I like the way the Iron looks, but I could not live with the 883. I love the longer stroke of the 1200, it really runs at a nice low rpm at highway speed.
@ Steven, YES IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE! The Dyna's have a catalytic converter built into the slip ons...I have tried to NO AVAIL to get them out. Sorry bro.
I have a 2012 sportster xl1200 custom and got slip-ons and the Harley shop told me I was fine but if I were to straight pipe it /remove the baffles I would need a fuel programmer. Because it will burn the valves. I now have a heavy breather with rush slip-ons and a screaming eagle race programmer and gained 20hp 15ftlb torque and about 10 mpg. I would recommend the programmer if you don't want to put unnecessary money into your engine. Ps fuel injected need back pressure to run correctly
The issue with both burnt valves and low end torque is that, because the exhaust has better flow, the engine is now getting more air. If they have this, along with other mods, they could be running too lean causing both of those issues.
Ah the dremel, one of my most used tools. I prefer baffled, I have an ironhead I had to shove 8 inch baffles in and it didn't change the sound at all but a nice boost to midrange. Guess I should look into some slip ons like those.
Interesting. I took off my pipes on my 1991 Sportster 1200 and the baffles are only fastened with a bolt so it's super easy too take em out. However I need to get a different air filter and also find out if I need to re jet the carb.
i have a 2004 883 carbed i got a extra set of factory pipes to see how it would sound and not to bad quite happy its loud thats for sure and wont do any harm eventually ill put on hookah headers but for now thanks guys i like it alot.
should've used a hole saw the size of the inside diameter of the pipe. Then pull them out from the rear with a pair of needle nose pliers. Easiest was to do it.
To all of you that have posted questions, youtube is ALWAYS changing how things are done, hell they are almost as bad as friggin facebook! Some people were maked as spam, and now I can't seem to reply. I will try to learn the new youtube asap
I have a 2007 Dyna Low Rider with stock pipe & mufflers. I used a 2" circular saw with electric drill to cut the baffle at the end of the pipe. Tried tugging on baffle with pliers, NO GO. Took the mufflers off the pipe and ram rod from the other end to punch baffle out, NO GO. Looking at slip on's before I go HULK and destroy these stock mufflers.
Thank you for the information, I'm going to put the mufflers back on and be patient, I will save up for what I really want, D & D 2 into 1 Fat Cats, Thanks again.
After you do this it does sound better..but if you want some awesome sounding drag pipes for only $15 then just replace the baffle tube that you cut out with a 17-1/4 inch long 1-3/4 inner diameter tailpipe extension from pep boys...just drill a hole through the backside and bolt them in.. $15 was my total cost for 2 extensions from pep boys..way better than wasting $150 +on aftermarket.
i wanted to do the same shit ... as i like the look of the stock pipes ! Have u inserted something after removing the baffles !! Howz the performance ? any issues in pick up? is it torquey enough ? What about the fuel consumption ? FINALLY IS THE SOUND BASSY ENOUGH ?
Well mapping is when the dealer or a certified mechanic hooks the bikes computer up to a device that changes the fuel/air mixture (mapping) for optimum performance. usually costs about $150. Personally i don't think it is needed unless you have an aftermarket air filter as well.
I just punched the bottom out of both of my baffles and it sounds great and gained performance. I have more low and mid range torque. The RPM range is wider as well. I have no complaints at all. My bike is a 2011 Sportster XL 1200 Custom.
my 2006 Harley sportster(carb) 883 had a catalytic converter in front stock exhaust. tried the 2.75 inch cut as well. cannot pound out, just save yourself time and stress and buy a set of slip ons.
I drilled 3/4 inch holes in the baffle on my 04 sportster 1200 instead of removing the whole baffle. It sounds pretty good! I made a video with the sound so you can hear it.
Hi, I’m Roberto, I read in a many forums that it is recomended to remap te motorcycle, my question is, what happens with de retention of gases?, the spark plug is very burned ( tip black)? And they sound the same as the vance and hines? And if I don’t remap mi motorcycle you think what I’ll have a problem?? Regards!!
Well it seems that the new harleys have a catalytic converter in the slip ons...I bought a new street bob recently and because of the converter cutting out the baffles is no longer an option. If you were to possibly get an electricians auger bit and just went to town boring the hell out of them, it might work. But this video was on a 2011 iron.
(continued) #3: as far as re mapping, you will just lose some gas mileage, if you get a air filter too, then re map, should cost about $150 but worth it
I bought a 2018 sportster 1200 iron can I do same willl I need to tune or will I just get less gas mileage not worried about the mileage just thought I asked b4 I start wrenching on it
Marisol Macias I think the newer ones have the catalytic converter in the slip on itself you might want to check if it is they're pretty hard to get out and you might just want to purchase some regular slip-ons
hopefully someone can help me, i have a 2012 sportster 1200 custom, i have a set of vance and hines straight shot slip ons, but no mounting brackets ( they were given to me) where can i find the bracket??
yes actually it does! i noticed it does not have as much pull on the mid range rpm, say if i am about to pass someone i have to commit, cant just blast by, but it is slight. but the low end has more power. so it balances, but for the sound difference, it is all worth it. and another thing is, you really dont have to ake off the pipes to do this, just cut the weld at the rear of the pipe and use pliers to pull out the baffle.
So I decides to try the poke/drill a hole thing first to see if the effect was loud enough. There were already holes in the metal plate on the baffle. I went to widen it and the welds on that plate broke. The plate fell right out. It sounds way louder and pretty awesome. The baffled are still welded in. Since that plate is the same circumference as the baffle, would make a difference to remove it?
I dont this on my 2018 883 and couldn't get baffle out.....ran into about 2 inches of steel mesh in the top of the pipe...do you know if they changed the exhaust on a 2018....or is there something else I need to do to get baffle out?
I have a 2009 1200 sportster, I want more noise, trying to figure out getting rid of the baffles, I’ve heard that hurts your low-end torque, and can mess up your pistons, you have to adjust the fuel flow?
Great work guys. What a difference in sound! Just wondering since we make license plate backers if that extended backer you have is for a military sticker?
Well if you ever ride through El Paso TX, or Traverse city, Michigan (in 6 months) I will take your offer! hahaha. but just pull off the slip on before you bore it out and look in the other end to see if the cat is there, don't cut the weld before!
There is no fiberglass that is in this operation, the fiberglass is held against the sides by a perforated sheet. The baffle would direct the flow through this, when you remove, no more flow direction except OUT!
“ use the rag to hold the pipe” * throws the rag on the floor and proceeds to cut lmao 🤣 I love it.
Your taste in music is very much appreciated xD
16000rpm true
That sounds really good! I have an Iron 1200. With this tutorial I now know how to remove the baffles. Thanks for the vid
In my 2019 Sportster 48 Special, there where cats inside the mufflers before the baffles. I didn't cut out the baffles as in the video, I just ran a cup saw on an extension thru the muffler. Wham Bam thank you Mam. sound Great!

@@abdulkhawaja9792 It all worked great and sounds beefier too.
Very cool! Loud bikes saves lives! Thanks.
Thanks, I'll do that as soon as I get back.
Yeeesssss, it has such a beasty sound now. No problems with any backfire or pressure loss. Everything is good and the Exhaust roars when i start it up. Thanks for the video and help :D

Michigan love brother. Got myself same bike love it, just ordered some exhaust pipes, fuel pak, and air filter cant wait to make it sound good..
I found this video over the Memorial day weekend. Thank you. My 2011 Harley Superlow sounds so good. Thank You. I will make a video. Called loud pipes. You saved me 700 bucks. here in Bama.
ROLL TIDE!! I do accept tips! hahaha
I lived in El Paso Texas for a bit when I was in the ARMY, loved it there
I just banged out the baffles on my 06' 883XL, Improved sound quality, no noticed loss in mileage. I drove an additional 8 miles over the expected 100mile stop for gas.
Sounds good, I have a 2014 Sportster "48". I went with the Vance and Hines short shot staggered in black. I added the quiet baffles because the stock V&H were pretty loud.
this is the best way to do this and the first mod I do to every bike I build.Respect!
Holy shit that a big difference. Thanks for the video
it is loud as hell! with a nice deep rumble. a re map from the dealer is always a good idea
Very helpful. I mean you don’t have to put those factory exhausts backs on it. It sounds super super loud and so satisfying.hope you have good neighbors lol
the dremel tool worked perfect, good work...
2" hole saw for sure. Just did my wife's 883 without removing anything. Like 15 min. Not as loud as I thought, but still cool as hell!
Erik Anderson what year bike is ur wife?
Great video guys. I appreciate it. I know exactly what to do now. Thanks again.
You have made my day with this video thank you so darn much for this video
The soundtrack is outstanding!
Hi Chadd, thank you so very much for your great advice! You are a gentleman ~ sharing all these with others online. Wish I could buy you a case of beer or something. i think pipes alone is not enough to make a re map needed. but if you do the pipes and an aftermarket aircleaner...then yes
Cool info and good taste in music!
Hi Chadd, thanks for the help! You have fun riding and fixing up your machines! I am currently overseas ... will be back to Minnesota/ Wisconsin next summer. Take care! Peter M.
Nice soundtrack for the job, man! Also, the exhausts sounds really awesome!
Miss my Michigan plate!!!
But enjoying the Florida riding!
Will be doing this soon until I can afford pipes!
Sounds good, I took the baffles out of my sportster with a bi metal hole saw and cordless drill efi can compensate like 10%
Without leaning out
I like the way the Iron looks, but I could not live with the 883. I love the longer stroke of the 1200, it really runs at a nice low rpm at highway speed.
1200 upgrade kit ;)
the 1200 is a rocket!
1200 has a longer stroke?
The stroke on the 1200 and 883 are identical the only difference is bore size
I'm so glad I went with the 1200 over the 883
Nice mod. I doing this in a few mins. Time for the neighbors to wake up!
Michael, you need a bike first brother. Keep it real, real dumb
Awesome thanks for your time showing this.
No problem 👍
@ Steven, YES IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE! The Dyna's have a catalytic converter built into the slip ons...I have tried to NO AVAIL to get them out. Sorry bro.
I have a 2012 sportster xl1200 custom and got slip-ons and the Harley shop told me I was fine but if I were to straight pipe it /remove the baffles I would need a fuel programmer. I would recommend the programmer if you don't want to put unnecessary money into your engine. Ps fuel injected need back pressure to run correctly
I have noticed that on the newer bikes, they have a catalytic converter in the front part of the slip on, that is a whole other story!
Took a. 1 3/4 "hole saw cut. The weld came right out took 4 min. Left muff lerl
Thanks from over in Fort Polk, vid was pretty helpful!
The issue with both burnt valves and low end torque is that, because the exhaust has better flow, the engine is now getting more air. If they have this, along with other mods, they could be running too lean causing both of those issues.
My bike has 8000 miles and hasn’t had baffles in it. Lol

I was going to say, they fell out of my '95 883 stock pipes. I used to have to hit them with a mallet and push them back in all the time.
i have a 2004 883 carbed i got a extra set of factory pipes to see how it would sound and not to bad quite happy its loud thats for sure and wont do any harm eventually ill put on hookah headers but for now thanks guys i like it alot.
I did it on an 2007 sportster custom and had no problems with riding afterwards. no check engine light or any power loss.
should've used a hole saw the size of the inside diameter of the pipe. Then pull them out from the rear with a pair of needle nose pliers. Easiest was to do it.
+Jason Buckner Read the description!!
For future reference a 2" hole saw works really good and you don't have to clean up the cut.
hey man ! really awesome video !! please make more !

If you remove the baffells it makes it louder and a different sound.
Thanks for the real way to remove the baffle. Other Dudes are using long drill bits,
+David Spennachio A hole saw is best, but pricey.
Yes it would...And Sporty's are noisy, this it totally normal. After you cut the baffles out it will be 100% louder.
Did you install any torque cones? If not did you lose low and mid range torque. I'm all for increased sound, but not at the expense of performance.
I just punched the bottom out of both of my baffles and it sounds great and gained performance. I have more low and mid range torque. The RPM range is wider as well. I have no complaints at all. My bike is a 2011 Sportster XL 1200 Custom.
Kevin Cooper Did you do a tune along with the baffle removal and if not have you experienced any engine or valve damage?
I had a buddy knock mine out with a long steel pole and a big hammer custom Sportster 1200
nice shop guys, nice sound !
my 2006 Harley sportster(carb) 883 had a catalytic converter in front stock exhaust. tried the 2.75 inch cut as well. cannot pound out, just save yourself time and stress and buy a set of slip ons.
Well done!
I drilled 3/4 inch holes in the baffle on my 04 sportster 1200 instead of removing the whole baffle. It sounds pretty good! I made a video with the sound so you can hear it.
Awesome mod man! I want to do the same to my stock 72.
Anyone know if this same procedure can be done to a 1985 roadster ? Thanks in advance fellas .
very nice rumble...good work guys
I can smell the metal grinding in my house 😂😂
Hi, I’m Roberto,
I read in a many forums that it is recomended to remap te motorcycle, my question is, what happens with de retention of gases?, the spark plug is very burned ( tip black)?
And they sound the same as the vance and hines? And if I don’t remap mi motorcycle you think what I’ll have a problem??
Regards!!
but if you go with a high flow air filter, take er into your local shop and get it mapped, usually about $150 vs. $400 for a fuel box.
once you see the baffle detached from the welding, use needle nose pliers to pull them out.
hahahaha, it's my friends garage! And using a hole saw....it will jump around and run the risk of damaging the pipe
I took mine out, it killed my low end torque, so I put them back in. Thinking about making some lollipops, in order to tune between power and sound.😎
Well it seems that the new harleys have a catalytic converter in the slip ons...I bought a new street bob recently and because of the converter cutting out the baffles is no longer an option. If you were to possibly get an electricians auger bit and just went to town boring the hell out of them, it might work. But this video was on a 2011 iron.
no, it will run a LITTLE different but not much. If you also have a high flow air cleaner you will need to re map it.
You just perfected this bike
(continued) #3: as far as re mapping, you will just lose some gas mileage, if you get a air filter too, then re map, should cost about $150 but worth it

+Adam Boaz I would contact V&H
usuall you are fine if it is just the pipes, but if you do the pipes and a high flow filter, then you need to be re mapped
Did doi g this project loosen up the packi g at all? Or is it nice a d secure after removing the baffle
yes actually it does! i noticed it does not have as much pull on the mid range rpm, say if i am about to pass someone i have to commit, cant just blast by, but it is slight. but the low end has more power. so it balances, but for the sound difference, it is all worth it. and another thing is, you really dont have to ake off the pipes to do this, just cut the weld at the rear of the pipe and use pliers to pull out the baffle.
do you mean the catalytic? mine seems to be bonded to the sides somehow
Nice bike... and nice boots btw...

Yeah, they did change them. I think around 2013 ish? So slip ons are best now id say
Correct me if im wrong, but want you burn the jugs up if you do this to a fuel injected bike?
Sounds just like a 1949 John Deere tractor!
I don't see why not, as long as you have the correct size hole saw. I wouldn't just poke a hole in the baffle if that's what you mean.
Sounds great 👍
yes it did, not too bad, but any aftermarket pipes will do the same
Do those two things , and itll be READY !
make mainjet larger , open up baffles at least 1/2 open from straight !! right on !
I have a 2009 1200 sportster, I want more noise, trying to figure out getting rid of the baffles, I’ve heard that hurts your low-end torque, and can mess up your pistons, you have to adjust the fuel flow?
Yes and yes, after this or adding slip ons, you should remap the ecu
Hey, remap the ECU once? Or do I need a fuel flow regulator or something...………Thanks
I have 2014 Dyna Street Bob. Is there any difference as far as the removal of the baffle goes?
What if you just remove the muffler and leave it off?
i dont think you do if you use the stock air cleaner, but if you go with high flow, then yes you need to re map it
how did you get the bottom glass pack to slip off I cant get mine off
When you started the bike did you get any check engine light or any power loss on the ride? Please elaborate on the after math of the mod
Great work guys. What a difference in sound!
Just wondering since we make license plate backers if that extended backer you have is for a military sticker?
Well all of us in this video are US Army NCO's. But the backer is for the Texas safety inspection sticker.
Do I need backflo preventers for a 1200 sportster if I take the baffles out
torque cones work well
would that be the same as cutting out the baffles from a 2007 HD 1200 sportster? does it have the same size width in the exhaust
Thanks for the tips, Just finished it and sounds awesome, Thanks again
you have to remap ?
Chad I have this same bike but a 2013 and did this and it looks the exact same no extras in mine
