Honestly the Wii U has so much nostalgia for me - got it during the best time of my life (so far) along with this game shortly after. Will always look up to this console. I'm so glad I still play it
Today is the last day before Wii U servers shut down and we say goodbye to Splatoon for the last time. I watched the news broadcast one last time, I played one last time online, then fought Octavio, and teared up watching the credits. It was like spending time with a friend before saying goodbye for the last time. I wanted to watch this to look back on all the fun. This game was a core part of my childhood, playing it after school each day, and getting so excited for each splatfest. Now that I’m an adult I miss it so much. Thank you to the developers and to all of the community for countless hours of fun and memory making.

I can't believe how long it's been since the first game came out. I've been a fan since 2015 and no words can possibly describe how much Splatoon means to me and how happy it makes me. I don't think I'm ever gonna let go of this franchise.

As of 4/8/24 5pm PDT, the online servers for Wii U and 3DS have shut down. Saying this game defined the Wii U would be an understatement.
There's no denying how phenomenal Splatoon was, it remained active from day one, all the way to the final moments.
I hope that everyone never forgets Splatoon and how amazing it was!

Guys, I'm from the future, and I'm here to tell you that the last splatfest was just ok
CZcams seems to be recommending it again.
Watching this as the servers go down makes me tear up. The memories come flooding back of this beautiful game. Memories of joy and distress, of frustration and gratitude, of admiration and sorrow. An amazing game that evokes so much from me and others around me. Truly, one that I will remember fondly for the rest of my life.

Who would have thought that this moment would come, saying goodbye to online Splatoon...of course it would come at some point, but I didn't think it would be so soon...9 years later.
This splashback is my favorite, what always touches me is the phrase at the end, "thank you". Instead of "thank you for playing" like in S2.
I feel "included" because I didn't played it during 2015-2016 (and I even feel a little regret about that)...I didn't saw much about Splatoon at that time, and I only became interested in the game a little later. This was one of the IPs that most changed my life, and not just mine, but that of many other people around here. Years ago, they were the ones who gave us a "thank you", and now, it's our time to say it.
Thank you, Splatoon! For such great memories, great characters, music and awesome lore! Splatoon is definitely more than an online game, and it will live on!
Goodbye Splatoon 1, we will all miss you so much, you have changed mine and so many other people's life's in amazing ways and birthed the started of an amazing Nintendo franchise

It's been exactly two years since the final Splatfest of the original Splatoon, and I'm feeling incredibly nostalgic for it. I miss the Squid Sisters and the excitement I felt for all of these cool Splatfest themes. Thanks for the memories, Nintendo! May we always have the next Splatfest to look forward to.
Shane Sandling actually, they might, since splatoons final splatfest was a year after it came out. Splatoon 2 has been out for more than a year and pushing 2 years, and they are still doing splatfests (right?) so, they probably won’t shut it down.

I'm so glad I picked up that game back then but unfortunately stupid me had to sell my Wii u to get a switch but I'm picking up one this summer to have those memories all over again and I'm hoping one Nintendo shuts down the servers that someone will make their own because of someone did that for the Wii a few years ago

We all know why we're here. This game have been and is still a big part of my life. 2016 was a hard year for me,, but Splatoon got my back and made it a wholesome year. I'll never forgot all the peole i've met here, the miiverse squid parties we made and all the beautiful characters (callie i love u eternally) and ost this game have. It have a special place in my heart, the biggest place. My younger self would be proud to see how i still love the serie and care about Wii U.. Let it never die please, never.

I remember playing in Callie vs Marie (I was on Marie) and being very anxious for results wondering if we won and how I yelled to the top of my lungs when I saw my team won, good times indeed. But I too felt a bit down knowing that was the final one.

I first Got Splatoon for the Wii U on July 3rd 2015, 2 days before my birthday. Never had I noticed that the first Splatfest EVER that changed history for shooters forever began on my Birthday, July 5th. Oh how I feel special. This was what everyone needs to feel. Happy and Cry from how special splatoon was to all of us.

This makes me tear up out of nostalgia and whatnot, and I never even played Splatoon 1 or even knew Splatoon existed until Splatoon 2 was revealed and Inklings were added into Mario Kart, and I didn't even start looking into Splatoon until like spring of 2018. Why this has this effect on me I have no idea, but it does.

As of the time of this comment, Splatoon 2 has released on the Switch. Discovering this video again and with the Octo Expansion coming soon this summer and Inklings finally coming to Smash in 2018... just wow. Nintendo’s really struck something magical with this franchise. I’d put it right up there with Mario and Zelda. The way they’ve shaped the character of this world they’ve created, it’s wonderful. I wish Nintendo the best of luck with the switch and all of it’s games in the coming years.

I just cried. It wasn't specifically about the splatfests, but this game will forever have an imprint on my life. This game was my existence, somedays it's why I'm happy, somedays it's why I'm angry, one time I actually broke my gamepad in half (I swear team science was hacking!!!!!), but he community aspects, the amiibo hunts, the singleplayer, the updates, the slosher (has to be a point in it of itself), and of course the splatfests I stayed up WAY too late for every night to get to max rank for all of them, were so perfectly brought together in this experience. It was a concept so new, and fresh (pun intended) that I feel like I will never have the experience again. It was a once in a lifetime investment, ARMS couldn't capture me the way splatoon did, and especially with splatoon 2 lacking ACTUAL miiverse, just fake miiverse, it's really not the same. Even if it was, it was all experienced before, and wouldn't have the same impact. Then the youtubers playing alongside, it really gave it a community feel (at the end of zackscottgames splatoon episode 86, I was there, and he said my name and mentioned my slosher when he super jumped to me!!!). Just the mass realization that all of the incredible things this game did to me was special and will only happen once. It all just came together for the perfect storm nothing else will ever be able to top. But according to the play time I didn't play the original splatoon NEAR as much in the 2 years I played it as I have playing breath of the wild within MONTHS!!! WTF!!!!
(300 hours in breath of the wild. Am I crazy? Yes.)
Edit: I'm playing Splatoon 1 much more often now, people still play! Especially now that Nintendo switch online released, a lot of people moved to splat 1. It's a huge nostalgia blow Everytime I load it up, good memories flow back, but I realize the more time goes by that someday they're going to shut down the servers for Splatoon 1. The thought hurts me, that I won't be able to relive the great times anymore, the lackluster graphics and basic layouts, the old weapon comps and specials, all sanctioned off to the test chamber

As sad as I am that the Splatfests are over, and that I also didn't participate in as many as I would have liked, I'm glad that my brother saved up enough money to buy a Wii U for the household. The first Splatfest we had was Marshmallows vs Hot Dogs, and although I didn't get to play, my team of Marshmallows won. Now, I was away when the day of the final Splatfest came, but I was, sort of okay with it. I didn't want to choose one Squid Sister and let the other down, because I liked them both, so I just didn't bother to choose. In my mind, I chose both. I think the Splatfests were a very unique way to bring gamers together that will never be achieve again, unless by Nintendo in a Splatoon sequel. It gave a lively sense of community and friendship, and I think the whole of the community, no matter who lost, shook tentacles and knew it was all in good fun. I just want to thank all of Nintendo, on my behalf and on the behalf of all the quids of Inkopolis. As sad as we are that no more Splatfests will be taking place, we're happy that you gave them to us in the first place. The squids of Inkoplis will keep inking, no matter what. And we'll always remember that Splatfests were good signs of fun and community. Never will I forget who connected I felt to the players around the world when a Splatfest came around. We were all working together. Around the world, we splatted as one. That was a wonderful feeling. Splatoon was the whole reason we got the Wii U. If it hadn't been for Splatoon, we wouldn't have kept buying games. We may have bought one later, when it was older, but even still, my point remains. Splatoon is a wonderful game, one that showed me the wonders of the Wii U. Even if the squids of Inkopolis leave their inking ways, I'll never forget the ink stain they left on my heart.

I competed in only the last one, but you know what? I didn't mind at all... Splatoon isn't about choosing sides, it's about enjoying the most fun 3rd person shooter nintendo ever made.

Oh how I miss splatoon one...
I still play it today, I prefer its main and special weapons and the advantages on the clothes were more significant. Anyways, I miss the old Dual Squelcher on the first months of Splatoon 1. It was extremely OP with super defense and strongness as this weapon killed as fast as a Splattershot Pro but futher. As I've said, it WAS OP as Nintendo nerfed it at some point and it's sad to me, because I got my highest rank (-S) with that weapon and I never reached that high since then.
