I watch you every single day. You give a sense of stability to my world and it really helps. I'm telling you, Jocelyn, you are one of the very nicest people I have ever encountered and I often think "I want to be more like that" - honest and generous, thoughtful and open hearted. You're just a treasure. See you tomorrow !
Prince Albert introduced Christmas trees to England and suspended them from the ceilings in Windsor castle. However, the tradition dates back to 7th century Germany. .
The little brown ceramic house at 2:43 might be for cone incense. The smoke would come up. I like the balsam smell. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Hanging trees upside-down in the home, especially fir trees, harkens back to the Middle Ages when Europeans employed the act in order to represent the Holy Trinity. The first to do this was Saint Boniface, a Benedictine monk, who used the inverted trees as a theological teaching tool for pagan Germans.
@@LindaKayHolevas I’ve always loved books & absolutely love to read, but I suppose the fact that I’m an author who often spends hours researching different subjects also contributes to that. Lol
I have my grandmother's iced or frosted lights that were on her tree as far back as I can remember and I'm 63. I'm sure she'd had them for a while then. Her whole house was so tacky decorated and I loved it!
Most baby rings had a piece of silk ribbon run thru them and then tied around the wrist in a bow. Ppl mainly used them for special occasions and pictures.
I know that people went crazy trying to find ceiling hung Christmas trees in the 90's after they were used commercially by some department stores. It was a great way to display the ornaments that were being sold from the shelving units below. I had no idea it had ever been done before, let alone for residential use. Just goes to show.
I've hung my Christmas trees from the ceiling for 20 years or more! My kids call it my "upside down" tree. I've evolved into creating life like trunks and my tree looks like its actually growing through the ceiling. Saves a ton of floor space, animals and toddlers can't tip it over either. I've done beachy sea shell themed trees, pink flamingos, white birch with natural woodsy decor...My fav was the year I hid realistic fairy like wood elves in the highest branches peering down. My children loved walking under it to see them.
I have a baby ring in gold with flowers. I wore it when I was a baby. My Belgiun grandfather sent it to me when I was born. I do still have it. I treasure it as I don't know anyone else who has one.
So many comments, maybe someone else already mentioned this but I was curious about the xmas tree hanging from the ceiling and found this...."But it was southern Poland where the trend really thrived. In a tradition called podłazniczek, Polish people used "fruit, nuts, sweets wrapped in shiny paper, straw, ribbons, gold-painted pine cones" to decorate a spruce hanging upside down from the ceiling in the center of the room, according to The Spruce.Dec 11, 2019" AND "First, they allow more ornaments to be seen at eye level than on a traditional tree. They're also a space-saver: For shops or hotels worried about floor space, hanging the tree high enough means they won't be taking up unnecessary room.Dec 3, 2020"
I have friends who put their tree on the ceiling because they have cats who like to tip them over when on the ground! I am 63 and my mother has my baby ring.
A small Italian restaurant I have gone to for over 25 years have hung their tree from the ceiling since the beginning. It does get a LOT of comments/compliments. ; - )
Those shiny brites in the box would go for $100 here in my city. Vintage christmas items are so hot right now, I've never seen prices like this in my 15 years of collecting them.
My grandma gave me a baby ring when I was born. It’s always lived in my jewelry box. My piano teacher gave me one of those ballerina ornaments in the 70’s. She’s one of my favorites.
Prince Albert brought trees from Germany to celebrate Christmas with his family. These were hung right-side up over tables of gifts. Upside-down, hanging trees are nothing but a retail ploy for the merchandise to be noticed, even though I have seen them used in the home. Customers can overlook an ornament buried in the branches, but not if it's dangling in their faces. (It's Christmas time, so keep your minds out of the gutter.)
Nice to see you bubbling over with the Christmas Spirit! It's infectious!!! Love your work and the positive energy you put out. Thank you for all that you do!!
Jocelyn, I love that you purchased those beautiful "Shiny Brites" ornaments. I have a lot of originals, but, sadly, most of the boxes are gone. They had wonderful graphics.
You probably already know this or someone probably said it before me but you can’t put lights on aluminum Christmas tree. It will catch fire. It’s just how you said it in the video I just wanted to make sure you knew. Anywho please post photo or include it in a video when you set up your vintage Christmas display. I would love to see it :)
I was there yesterday and to Tollbooth as well. Wish I had caught you to say hi. Also glad you didnt find the thing I spotted that I am going back for on Friday lol.
I have a set of Santa Fe dining car dishes, one set with coffee cup, saucer and dinner plate. My grandfather was a conceirge for the railroad his entire career. The dishes were never used by a customer.
Jocelyn, about the baby rings. You would loop a thin piece of ribbon through the ring and then put it on the baby’s finger then tie the rest of the ribbon around the baby’s wrist in a bow so the child would not swallow the ring.
Omg I remember those coin holders. If I remember correctly I think they had bunnies or ducks at Easter. And of course the books for Quarters, or dime, or nickles. It was to help encourage children to save money and then deposit into a savings account and fill more books up. The banks gave them out to children to help them learn how to count money, save money.
I still have a few of those coin collecting books. I tried to get the credit union to bring them back as it would help teach children today to save for tomorrow. It never happened which is a shame younger generation doesn't get the treasures of yesterday.
those shiny brite ornaments , mother used to buy those for .85 cents at woolworths . She used to call that highway robbery . she would have a stroke over 22 dollars for those LOL . Obviously by that description i am older than you .
When I worked at a decor shop, we always hung the holiday trees from the ceiling, upside down. It's the best way to show off ornaments, and always drew in lots of shoppers. It' keeps the mess off the floor, it can't tip over, and with an artificial tree, you don't worry about problems that a live one has.
I have those Holt Howard candles holder's super 😍 cute. $20.00 -oh my gosh, I know I only paid $5.00 for the pair, I bought. $22.00 for the shiny bright??? I Bought that same box, with all green ornaments $2.50.. Vintage Christmas, is waaaay to expensive yikes!!!
My sister and I had gold baby rings like the ones you found in this video. My mother tied a satin ribbon around the ring and then around our wrist. I think we probably just wore the rings for photos. A friend of our dad's was a professional photographer and the took our baby pictures frequently. Still you are right, probably not very safe.
I think the tumblers are actually vases because the birds are opposites. Isn’t glassware usually the exactly same pattern? Also, that’s pretty thick for a tumbler. Finally, how could you pass on those???
Never got the tree on the ceiling thing but to each their own. I do love those those sugar bulbs, I saw your hoard and I'm jelly!! ps ... be very careful with the alum tree...I use a color wheel that we put a led bulb in...electric light directly on the tree burned down many a house back in the day.
The Christmas tree 🎄 you will note is hung upside down. It was a more avant-garde way of decorating a tree! 1960’s to 1980’s time frame. Partial tree swags were Ali used to give an essence of a tree for some different, or accommodation to a smaller home display!
I think Brandy and Darryl resemble Jocelyn and Andrew on crazy lamp lady I'd love to see Brandi cut her hair short on one side and do all colors be so cool
The one thing I never see in Antique malls, are the little plastic Christmas corsages from the 50's-early 60's. They sold for .75 to 1.25 each, and had flowers, greenery, a tiny bell or other decorations.
My mom used to work in NICU (retired) and in the nursery, they would hang a smaller tree from the ceiling so the babies could see it. Not sure who started that trend.

We bought the baby ring & put it on sometimes in rare occasions. Like in Assembly of God church's. Had a ceremony to dedicate our child to God. But it wasn't like you left it on there little finger for long or unattended.. Still have my daughters & she is in her 40's. It's a sweet reminder of your baby girl.
My grandma grew up in Canada around the turn of the century, and they hung their trees from the ceiling. She thought it was because tree stands didn't exist, or maybe because they were poor. She also said that when they lit the candles on the tree, she and her siblings had to stand and watch them, in case the tree caught fire.
I'm 48 and grew up and still live in Canada. I was today years old when I heard the weird idea about hanging a tree from the ceiling. I will never do that.

I nearly died when you laid the heavy nativity plaque on top of the Shiny Brites. I can break them just by looking at them wrong! 🤣

Please don't put any lites on the aluminum trees because it's a fire hazard. They used to use a colored light shining on the tree.

Be careful Jocolyn a lot of aluminum trees CAN NOT HAVE LIGHTS on them. That's why they used a color wheel underneath. 💜
I didn’t know! I’m so glad I said something on video and everyone told me. 😬
kinda like foil in the microwave, could have a sparking. shocking experience

I had two. I swallowed both. As a toddler.
I am 69 and still have my baby ring, my grandmother gave to me.
One year I hung my Christmas Tree from the ceiling. It was different and very unique and beautiful

This sounds absolutely magical...
I knew someone who hung their tree from the ceiling because they wanted yo keep their ornery toddlers from pulling it over.
We put our tree in a playpen because our firstborn would not stop touching it even tho the tree was picky. Lol. We were afraid he’d pull it over.
My Mom did this one year too!
Hanging the Christmas tree from the ceiling?…..cats😂🤣

Hanging a tree from the ceiling is an old tradition in some country. From a practical point of view, more presents fit under an upside-down tree.

Ceiling hung trees was a thing in the 60s
Christmas tree hung from the ceiling: To prevent pets and small kids from climbing it; small apartment with very little floor space available.
Baby rings are more for mama than baby.
First, I just love you! Second, Queen Victoria’s husband Albert hung a tree from the ceiling in the palace for each of their children every Christmas!

The tradition of hanging a Christmas tree from the ceiling came from Prince Albert(Germany) back in the Victorian era
Queen Victoria's husband Albert was known to hang Christmas trees upside down from the ceiling.... Maybe a German tradition.
The Christmas tree hanging from the ceiling makes it impossible to knock it over.

The upside down tree could likely be to keep pets from trading the tree down or knocking it over.
I can’t belive the ceramic Christmas trees cost so much in 🇬🇧 they are not so much ,in fact I did one at a craft session
