    The voice reminds me of The Maxx's tune "Cocaine". Another New Beat classic of that time.
    For the record, the classic "Rock To The Beat" is originally a Techno tune from Detroit made by the legendary Kevin Saunderson as Reese & Santonio.
    Also a fun fact: it is believed that the trio Morton, Sherman & Belluci might have produced about 1/3 of all the New Beat records between 1987 and 1989.
    The same Sherman who would later in the 90's create the famous Sherman analog filter... 🙂

    • @Estuera
      @Estuera  Před rokem +2

      Yes, it was actually a 'cover' indeed.

      Speaking of Kevin Saunderson, I recall VHS footage of him performing as Inner City on one of major New Beat nights, besides top acts of the NB scene. "Rock To The Beat" was likely produced on his approval.

    Great work! We had 2 of our songs released in Belgium in 1989 (originally released in 1984 on Parlophone/EMI) on Play it again Sam/LD Records. The 12" single was a double A side, A 8:15 To Nowhere and AA The Spaceship Is Over There, they were classed as New Beat. The single achieved chart success as high as number 2 in parts of Europe. The songs are on our CZcams Channel, come visit!

    I had no idea this genre existed, but I'm digging it. Reminds me of the dance floor industrial of early Front Line Assembly etc. The history section in these videos is really cool too. I'm just getting into electronic music so it's fascinating to hear the background. I've just moved to Belgium too, and I had no idea it was such a hub for electronic music.

    Thanks for this video! I'm from Lille (France) and was a Confetti's fan back in the days (I even danced at "family parties" dressed like them 😀), which soon got me into techno and then EBM/industrial (I became a huge Front 242-fan). I still make the new beat-moves when I dance... in my house basement! It's part of my everyday exercising, haha!

    @B1SCOOP Před rokem +1

    I've also noticed many NB tracks had heavy usage of stock sounds of samplers and sample based synths of the era, predominately Emu Emulator II or Roland D50. This is why it sounds so grounded in 80s, and it was probably the main reason it well out of favor so quickly (oppositely to freshly arrived House and Techno from States).

    Awesome, once again. Learned something new. In the very early 90s, in the midwest US, I classified this style under industrial/techno/ebm. Didn't know it was called New Beat. The first vinyl I purchased was Nitzer Ebb - Getting Closer - Mixes 1990. Started Djing with all the industrial tracks. Makes sense industrial/ebm evolved from earlier 80s genre song elements. So many elements overlap. Keep them coming, Thanks!

    You definitely captured the sound of New Beat with your amazing track. I’ve been a huge fan of New Beat since my first introduction here in the U.S. back in the early 90’s after picking up the “This Is The New Beat” compilation CD from 1989 that re-introduced New Beat to the U.S. market. I published a video to my channel a couple of months ago showcasing my New Beat record/CD/cassette collection. I’ve added 6 more Mint condition New Beat 12” records since then that I bought directly from Praga Khan (aka Maurice Engelen) himself. Great video! Cheers!

      Huh. Could you give insight how would you mix 100 bpm with 140? To me it’s the most striking difference between ‘continental’ and uk sound. That and breakbeats (sped up). Also if you can point out some old school playlists from the era would be cool. Would like to deepen my knowledge of the scene from the source

    • @AutPen38
      @AutPen38 Před 8 měsíci

      No one was making 140bpm tracks in 1989. Almost all house music back then was in the lower end of 118-130bpm, so you could have sets that began with 110bpm stuff like The Maxx's "Cocaine", then worked through Mr Fingers (around 115bpm), and Marshall Jefferson, Todd Terry (123bpm) and Technotronic (125?). Things like Tyree's "Turn Up the Bass", which was a peak-time floorfiller, was considered "a bit fast" at around 126bpm. The faster stuff didn't arrive until bad drugs hit the scene in the '90s.

Can't remember what we bought but I never did hear what the hell New Beat was. Wasn't a massive problem to not know but now and then I wondered about it and it wasn't a genre many people ever mentioned. But now after this video I finally know!
