I love this theme. Deception is 1 of favourite Mortal Kombat games. Chess Kombat was really good. I don't like how Havoc and Hotaru have been forgotten about in future games though :(
@Shawn Payne I don't know about you, but i'd prefer original MK characters whether they come back from past games or are completely new ones over guest characters. I appreciate all the effort put into guest characters but i'll use em a few times and thats it. Some of the previous characters could even have alterations to them to bring up to the quality of current ones. I love MK 11 but the lack of ninjas in particular is painful lol.
While i still play the new ones, i agree, Mortal Kombat in the original timeline was so badass and so dark, this was my first MK game, and I really miss it
Oniz Flores Armageddon was fun but it did not top Deception. Mortal Kombat 9 was fun too and with the story mode. But imagine what they can do in a upgraded Konquest now especially on PS4 and Xbox One!?
I really hope the Konquest mode comes back for MK 11. The only feature they've retained from Deadly Alliance - Armageddon is The Krypt so it'd be nice to see the return of something else. I'd also love to see stuff like Puzzle Kombat, Motor Kombat, Chess Kombat, etc. return as well.

Folks forget how dark the OG timeline got, heck we had Liu Kang in this as a zombie. Seeing the beloved hero of the earlier games be like that gave you chills.
I miss not knowing the lore about every character, Mortal Kombat was mysterious and sinister for me. Now I know everything. It's still cool, but not as much for me anymore.
What they lacked in gameplay, the 3D era MK had in fucking spades in style, aesthetic and music. Something I feel people forget is that for every Mokap and Tsu Hao, there was a Hotaru and a Havik, characters that changed the mold and introduced the idea that there was more to the realms of the Mortal Kombat universe than good or evil and pretty kickass music on top of that and stories that were surprisingly deep. For every fuckoff bad guy or shitty dumbass protag that was brought to light, you had characters with almost no storylines getting some, even if bare minimum, attention, such as Reptile and his plight to see his realm return, Noob Saibot & Smoke and Sub Zero's quest to save his brother from this damned state as a hellspawn, you had guys like Kenshi and Bo'Rai'Cho who went on to become almost as instantly recognizable as many of the legacy characters that have been in MK since the beginning. The gameplay of this part of the franchise? Sure, give it all the shit you want, it's agreeable that, save for the Konquest modes of Deception which gave us more to the stories and insight into some of the fighters and Armageddon which gave us some pretty decent even if basic out-of-arena combat systems, there was almost nothing to the gameplay that was definitively good for the experience, I will admit, everything was either flatout bad or VERY polarizing. But don't anyone say this part of the franchise had nothing to offer, because, even if not all good, a lot of interesting stuff did make it's way into the franchise in this era, some of which went on to become staples and others what fans remain are still looking forward to see the return of, Onaga as a villain being a good example.

You can still download the games from CoolRoms and play it in an emulator (Or directly into your ps2 using Free McBoot and all of that)
