@@TheSkyline5467 The coach and 6-7 gymnasts came from the Utah State team. They were not allowed to compete last year so those gymnasts have not competed since 2022-23. Next season, Cal and Stanford will be in the ACC. I thought UCLA going to the Big 10 was very far away, but Pacific coast to Atlantic coast is further away. Oklahoma is starting in the SEC next year. This will be interesting!
He referred to her as an alumni and former assistant coach, so I'm not sure if she has had any experience commentating. Some meets on Big 10, Pac 12, and MAC have one or two commentators who are former recent gymnasts from the home team. I don't know how much commentating training they've had because they are on par with the lady at this meet. Eg Michigan at Nebraska from this past weekend and Arizona and Minnesota last year. They do seem to be trying their best, they name all the skills, they offer reasonable explanations for deductions and they only say positive things about all of the gymnasts, including the visiting team. Many of the Big 10 meets have zero on-screen graphics so a viewer does not see the name of the gymnast, and sometimes the commentator does not say it so it remains a mystery unless one wants to check online for the roster. Scores are not shown either. I'm pleasantly surprised by the ACC broadcasts and amazed at the outstanding amount of support Clemson students/fans have shown this brand new sport on campus!

And I think the female announcer looked shy or kinda awkward as if she really didn't have experience as a commentator. So in that instance I think a learning curve should be granted. There are times when someone has to get acclimated to a situation. She may just need more experience. I do like how she provided the names for each flip. And when the people in the stadium announced the wrong name for the gymnast on the floor routine the male announcer said the correct name. So I agree with you. They clearly had some experience with gymnastics to know the skills and proper terminology. But they may just need more experience.

Olivia Karas, recent star gymnast from University of Michigan (grad 2019), has been commentating on the Big Ten network, and she is absolutely excellent. When new fans start watching college gymnastics, they are usually used to watching Olympic broadcasts every four years. So for the NCAA, they tend to see the slick ESPN broadcasts of the SEC first or most often. International fans like me rely on #1 Gym Fan!! Naturally, the new fans assume that this is the standard when it is actually the peak. The regional conference broadcasts are of slightly lower quality, and they get progressively less good the more obscure the conference/teams are. This is not an insult! It just means they don’t have the resources to provide the same frequency and amount of graphics nor the sound quality nor the experienced commentators. ( Some meets actually have no commentary at all, which I would not object to, but when there are also no graphics, it makes it difficult to follow the names and their scores.) Re sound: Sometimes it is very difficult to hear the floor music because the gyms are very prone to echoes, and there is a lot of cheering from the other gymnasts and the audience. An example is Maryland at Minnesota uploaded on January 28, 2024 on the channel MostepanovaFan. The commentators at the meet are two recent Minnesota star gymnast graduates, Lexi Rammler, and Tiarre Sales. So this long rambling comment is just me trying to say that I’m very grateful for the high quality ESPN broadcasts, and it’s always fun to see teams that are less well known because there are so many hidden gems who deserve more recognition. For example, Iowa State at Boise State from Feb 2 2024 was a lot of fun! 🙏😄💝🌤
