I’m starting to think Ruby naturally has stage fright or something because whenever she fights alone against Grimm her skill level skyrockets.
Probably because with none of her friends or family to worry about getting hurt,there's no nothing for her to hold anything back. I would love to see something like this when decides to make her way towards Salem on her own when the final battle draws near.
Or she starts focusing on only the Grimm. Whenever she is not around people, less people are around to get hit by her speed. So she can now go full strength.

sp33dy f41c0n crescent rose is a sniper/scythe that has a scythe mode, and a pure sniper mode, she can still use the sniper with the scythe and has even used the blade as a sort of tripod, although it looks like she's modified it so the bottom has a blade, though that could be me misremembering

There's people saying the opposite. wtf. to me it looks the same except for slightly more detailed graphics.
They definitely redid a lot of the graphics, but the original came out in 2013; it was high time for an updated look.
On top of that it's been a few "in universe" years since the last episode, and the show itself has experienced a thematic shift, so those are other reasons to tweak the visual art style.
I wonder if yang will get a robotic arm or be Saitama

I think Ruby has a second semblance, she can sense when she's in a trailer or short, and when she is she puts up her hood for dramatic effect

Well the only times they fought grimm were the nuckleavee and the geist and with both of those enemies she couldnt actually cut into them, but I feel like she was still awesome whenever they showed her in the nuckleavee fight. As for tyrian well I think it's obvious tyrian is WAAAAY better than ruby and ruby is terrible at fighting people anyways but I still can understand why u would think that with the lack of normal grimm fights in volume 4.

Yeah, that's kind of a problem with the animation style. When Oum animated fights, weapons had weight, and momentum. I'm glad they didn't wind up keeping this, it takes a lot of spectacle out of the fight.
Looking back on this: Ruby shows far higher aptitudes in pretty much everything. She isn't easily startled when a beowolf is thrown at her by the beringel. When using her scythe; aside from flourishes; her attacks are precise and she doesn't make unneeded motions with it. The use of her semblance is also much more refined than we typically see: she keeps her movements random enough to be hard to predict and also uses it to chain attacks against the beringel from different angles. Even her normal running and stepping to engage each new foe (with each swing of the war scythe) is efficient and effective.
Ruby acts like someone who has spent weeks; or months; travelling through the wilderness and fighting grimm frequently. In this she is a veteran huntress. Not even in volume 8 do I see her fight this well; when she should be even better by that point in time.
When you realize there are no words that could express your hype.

viviansytsui It may be a short but it could be considered a trailer as it's purpose is showing off improvements from last season, new artwork, and showing the release date of the new season.

I was waiting for a full-blown reprise of Red Like Roses, but what we got was pretty cool too.
Honestly to everyone complaining about the Animation. I find you to be a bit silly. The animation here is much more complex and even fluid then RWBY has ever done before, and yes I watched and enjoyed all three volumes. They fixed the horrible camera that the other seasons tended to have and it honestly has the same level of choreography. If anything was missing it was some impact and weight behind certain actions, but overall it is a much more complex and fluid animation style. Which is actually at a very high level of animation skill. I will continue to eagerly wait for another season, and I honestly love the improvement in animation that this series has done over time.

No, the choreography is nowhere near what it was especially in the first red trailer. However, the overall animation is beautiful, and I think it's a fine trade off. While the choreography is nowhere near bad, it's definitely a lot less fluid than Monty's animation. Just look how fast and how well the first four trailers flowed. The fighting was exceptional. This is still above average, just nothing amazing. Like I said though, overall the animation has been MILES ahead of the other volumes. Love it.

I still think the choreography is just as good, but that it lacks some weight behind certain movements. Which with time can be fixed. Thank you for being a reasonable person :)
More fluid he says. Ruby stops like 6 times in that fight to make some stupid pose. There was none of that in any of Monty's fights until the fight was won. Yes the lighting, effects and shading are all better, but I really DON'T find it to be an ok tradeoff. The choreography is a huge step down. But maybe the worst part is that it looks to be more from choice than an actual lack of ability. The first sequence when Ruby landed where she was fighting those 6 or 7 beowolves was pretty good, not Monty level but with good potential, but then it got all slow when she started fighting the Grimm Ape. The pauses and poses seemed to be for dramatic effect but they really just slowed down the fight and made it much less intense. It looked like the Winter vs Qrow fight all over again. Unless they all actually see a problem with it (which i don't think they do) I have little hope their fights will regain the quality and intensity they used to have.
Personally I don't feel like debating, because well will probably never see eye to eye. And that's perfectly fine. I think it would be much more civil just to agree to disagree, and just look forward to the next season of RWBY based off the potential of where the story could go.
I would say so many things, but it would just be pointless for both you and me xD

You do realize that Monty Om died mid production of vol 3, right? He wasn't the sort of guy that can just be replaced. RT had to change a lot more than just the "animation style". I think the art changes were a good choice. You can't compete with a legend, but you can let him inspire your own personal style.

I know this a probably a stupid idea but I think it would be a good idea for character development for ruby to have her find summer's cape, I don't know but I think it will be a huge development for her, the only reason I think this is because I'm 99% sure neither tai or qrow has summer's cape unless they were with her when she died but I don't think that's it. It would make sense for ruby to find it eventually

I miss this animation for her semblance. Her semblance is called “rose petal burst” so she turns into rose petals. Before volume 4 and now since volume 6 she’s just kinda wrapped up in her cloak with some petal affects around her.

I'm a bit sceptical. It seems like RWBY's fighting is moving to the Nobody-knows-what-a-character-can-or-can't-do territory. I really hope we don't get to the point where a characters skill doesn't matter anymore and battles are won purely on "willpower" or "inspiration".
Without Monty Oum, you can't really expect anything that has to do with semi-realistic movement anymore. Should probably just enjoy the new magical skills they'll be having. It's the only compensation they can give tbh

But seriously, I noticed it too. Maybe it's an evolution of her semblance (which I believe is her speed, please correct me if I'm wrong). It's similar to something I've seen before but I can't place it. Certainly looks cool though.
What's even more scary is that if she's like this after a bit of training, god knows how strong she'd be once she masters it all..
A semblance is very similar to an expression of spirit just like aura is. If someone changes or grows stronger their semblance will also change and grow stronger. I can't wait to see what Jaune has in store since his potential has been hinted at since season 1.
She made afterimages with her speed by spinning she make 2 afterimages of herself along with her to confuse the grim and then she recombined or she made the illusions out of her rose petals

*Let's be fair about the animation.* The quality is thousands of leagues better, but the _feel_ *IS* off. It's gonna take some getting used to and it's not gonna be instantaneous. It's fantastic but it just feels weird right now until we can see enough to adjust to it, y'know?
The models are better. The textures are better. The music and voice acting has always been rather good. Non-combat animation has definitely improved leaps and bounds with each volume.
The one area that will always miss Monty is the action choreography. It's simply too easy to tell what has and what hasn't been done by him.
True. I have no doubt that this will be a great season. For some though, it will take awhile to get to use to the new style. And to those who say the show is not the same, it still is.

Naw, I get what he means. It isn't so much the style but the way it feels. There's no sense of impact, or how the cuts Ruby made against Harambe made any lasting damage.Oh sure, you see him get cut up, but then the effects are never shown. The choreography dips at random spots but they do show off movement when the camera is focused on it.
Another example was the last strike. When she landed and impaled Harambe. All you here was a soft piercing noise, nothing that supports the final scene. Not only that, there wasn't so much as a crack on the ground, just a small puff of dust and her cape showing off in a stylized matter.
Another example. Go to 4:11, slow the video down if you want, but look how awkward it looks. She just floats there and flys down without so much as a gesture. I realized that Ruby got better, more skilled, but that along with several other similar types of movement makes the whole fight... lacking in 'oompf.'
Ostrum Tempus I see your point but think back to the original trailers. They were new art styles the the animators weren't used to. Give them a few episodes to iron out the kinks.

Anyone else notice how much less Ruby relies on bullets and their propulsion uses in this trailer than in the Red Trailer? I suppose it shows how much she's grown.
I also like to think that she has to conserve her ammo because team RNJR/JNRR has to survive by themselves in the world. So it'd make sense. I also like to headcanon that they've all grown combat-wise because they've been forced to in order to keep themselves together
On the contrary; notice how lightly and easily she lifts and twirls crescent rose, how when she hits things with it it doesn't so much make an impact as make the sound of an impact, and how neither she, nor the weapon, seems to feel recoil from her shots?
It's a sign of how much better Oum was than the animators at this point. Perhaps you don't remember, but fans raged at this trailer when it came out. Thankfully, the animators have gotten... well, not as good as Oum, but much better than they were.

One thing I’ll never understand is how the fighting looked so good in volume 4 but then it never got back to that level, in 5-8 it’s not bad but no where near volumes 1-4

i do like that part. in the end as light hearted as the series was, it was because they were more or less 'safe'. the world had instabilities but it had communication and trust. but that has been damaged and must be repaired, else the grimm will just grow stronger.

Yeah, Cresent rose always has the ability to angle the blade into a spear, shown in her Red trailer.
Znwarp Gravity is the weakest force that we know of. If you can accelerate past 9.81 m/s, then you overcome gravity. Ruby obviously goes a hang of a lot faster than that, so yeah, she can *almost* fly.
Werewolff Studios I think the person meant she didn't know she can 100% change her momentum in the air because she did kind of needed a monster dash jump to move at her speed before now
Znwarp actually the scythe form has always been there. It shows it in the red trailer when she uses her semblance. But only for a brief moment. The fast cuts and stuff makes it hard to see the scythe.

I don't get it. The team is clearly able to make a very well put together fight even without Monty's lead, as proved by this trailer, as well as Weiss's character short, and various other random fight scenes. So why are so many of the ones in seasons 4-8 terrible?
Maybe they need better fight choreography as well as not adding lines in the fight scenes since it slows it down

Well I think she did awesome in the fight against the horse grimm, I mean in these trailers the grimm are super close quarters, easy to cut through and really stupid. The nuckleavee was a completely different experience. I think whenever they did show ruby though in that fight it was very similar to how monty made ruby fight, always using her gun to increase and change her momentum. She also only got hit once by that grimm and even then before she got hit she did a move similar to what monty's style was. Also every fight ruby has been in against a human was lost, plus tyrian is probably as strong if not stronger than volume 3 cinder and cinder beat ozpin.

No, Tyrian was just as powerful as Qrow, and judging from his fight with Winter, team RNJR didn't stand a chance against him either.
The fight choreography was lousy here. I'm glad they improved in time for the Tyrian fight.

Mary Kelleher and surprisingly the nevermore is really cooperative. even when ruby stabs him he doesn't flinch or struggle.

These comments are ridiculous, some of you just can't be pleased! This looks INCREDIBLE. EVERYTHING has improved, the animation, the art style, the colours, the lighting, the shadows, the textures, absolutely everything looks fantastic. Bravo, CRWBY, your hard work has paid off, I can't WAIT to see the rest of the volume! :D

Things changed, sure. Improved? Maybe some of them (the animation definitely took a steep drop, but this is just a preview so it's to be expected, and the art style... Honestly it looks ugly to me, personally, but that's always going to be a complaint from someone in the audience). But it just doesn't seem to really be RWBY anymore. The 'improved' shading/lighting, art style, animation, even the camera movements are trampling on the aesthetics of the original series. That's always going to be the most important to me personally, and honestly... If the whole volume looks like this, I'll probably just opt to drop the series. Now, I don't think everyone should. I don't think anyone should. If I can handle watching it, I will, of course, because the story is important to me. But I can't watch the RWBY I've come to love become... this. But, whatever. We all have different opinions on the matter.

...No. I'm sorry, even if I say different people can have different opinions, just... no. The movements are all badly timed and awkwardly angled. I totally don't mind, considering I'm pretty sure this is just them getting the hang of their new software but... No. This reminds me of the kind of stuff I'd make when I was first learning how to use MMD.
Of course, an important part of that is camera angles. Those can sometimes help make it seem better, but... Only to an extent. At any rate, I look forward to what they'll do with this software in the future, and I'll leave it at that.
