In this video, Kim Kutz Elliott discusses how the Framers compromised over the plan for the legislative branch of government, combining the Virginia Plan and New Jersey Plan to form the House of Representatives and the Senate.

A good summation, thank you. Though by no means does this communicate the arguments between the small and large states or the questions of north/south which involve compromises over proportional representation vs. one vote per state. well it all worked out, am i'm glad it did. Cheers. love the vids
How do we get the culture of reverence for independence and limiting of government back into the forefront of this Republic, pray tell? For *that* is exactly what we need to do to save this republic.
Can you compare and contrast the annapolis convention and the constitutional convention?
The Annapolis Convention (AC) was attended by 12 delegates from a small handful of states, 5 I believe. It did not have the support of Washington, his presence being widely attributed to the big turn out of the CC as nearly everyone admired him. The AC was designed as a meeting of the states to primarily discuss interstate trade, as the whole system was a mess up to this point with each state having its own independent system of currency and trade, being primarily the way the Articles of Confederation worked. The AC came out of a successful meeting called the Mt. Vernon Conference where Maryland and Virginia successfully established trade navigation along the two states' shared waterways. It was thought unlikely that two states could come to an agreement like this. It is said in Madison's writings that, while in session at the Virginia House of Delegates, John Tyler proposed the idea for all the states to meet at Annapolis to discuss how they could figure out a more centralized trading system after the success at Mt.Vernon, but many believe Madison planted this idea in his head which would fit with his style of political genius. As there was no quorum at the AC, due to a lack of states caring to send delegates, they decided to have another convention, a larger one to discuss the failings of the Article of Conf themselves, being the primary reason for a lack of uniformity as the Articles encouraged a loose union of independent states Madison and others close to Washington immediately began lobbying him to support the convention, and eventually, after much convincing, he did. This arguably gave the convention the legitimacy it needed to bring delegates from the states. Leaving out a wealth of info, the convention proceeded to immediately turn from amending the Articles to replacing them altogether. In short answer to your question, the AC was a trial run for the CC. Both conventions were attempting to centralize due to the short comings of the Articles of Confederation, which were quickly thrown together in time of war and were meant to be replaced anyway.
