    Thank you!! I I really appreciate all of your videos, I’m in the United States, I know we are behind in getting the approval we need for medications for sheep and goats. I try to stay on top of things and have the knowledge that is available to us and you all provide!!

      Hi jackie, would you mind very much if I used this as a testimonial for my online tutorials? I can use an anonymous name if you'd like :) I'm also looking for a few people to record a very short video with for testimonials, if there's any chance you'd be up for it ! No worries at all if not :)

    Great info. I was told to vaccinate my ewes two weeks prior to lambing. I did a bit of a guess work as the when exactly that would be. Based it on bagging up and vulvar colour. It ended up being about three weeks prior to lambing. I didn't give 5n1 to the lambs but I think going forward I will just dose the lambs. Especially since the ram is with the ewes full time now. I think they have all be breed but it will still be a ball park for when they will be due.

      Nice. 3 weeks out is perfect, but yes you're right its a bit of a "one-size-fits-all" as you practically want to do them all at the same time. So unless you use a chalk harness on the ram to have them marked, so you can see who has been mated on what cycle, then its hard to be precise. Youre also right that the lambs shoudl still have 2 vaccinations of their own, it just means they are well protected for the first few weeks, as opposed to having to jump in there early. well done :)

    Hello. We vaccinate our ewes exactly four weeks before lambing starts. But the ram was with the ewes for three weeks, so some of the ewes took up to three weeks to get pregnant. Last ewe lambed yesterday (first ewes started three weeks ago) and therefore this last ewe technically got vaccinated seven weeks prior to lambing. How do I deal with that please? Seven weeks before lambing is a lot longer than four weeks. Thanks.

    Thank you again for all this information. I don't get my boys castrated until they're about 5-6 months old. They are sedated, given 3 day painkillers and are put on antibiotics. I was told to do this, as they're rescues and will live long lives, so that all their urinary system was properly developed. I've not ever had an issue and if they look like they're in pain I'll give them more relief. What's your thoughts on this?

    • @SeztheVet
      @SeztheVet  Před 2 lety

      Yes, very right. If sheep are on pasture it's far less likely to be an issue, but if you give them supplementary feed ie pellets or lucerne silage, or even high carby stuff like break and biscuits then they are at higher risk. Over 10 weeks old there is negligable difference, so I recommend doing it at 3 months to be safe, but without unnecessary suffering with increased development of the nerves to the testicles

    Great info as usual. Regarding boosters would you recommend a yearly booster for lifestylers? Even when they are older 5+? And if you miss a year is it still worth giving them a booster? Like mine are 3yrs but they have only had one booster at 1yr.

    • @SeztheVet
      @SeztheVet  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes I do. On farms, the risk of losing a single animal to a clostridial disease once every few years is often less that the cost and hassle of vqcci aging everyone ever year. But for individuals to be protected, yes they should have yearly boosters. The risk is low but the consequences high. Especially for goats, who have experience clostridial diarrhea even as adults

    If I do not tag, dock, castrate, or create any wound, and I missed the 4 week window on mom, when do I give the first Cdt (toxoid) shot? Or do I need to give antitoxin? If antitoxin, do I need to give tetanus and CD antitoxin or tetanus antitoxin and CD toxoid?

    • @SeztheVet
      @SeztheVet  Před 2 lety +2

      Sorry for the late reply here! If not creating any open wound then no tetanus antitoxin required. The CD toxoid is pulpy kidney vaccine, which often comes in a product along with the tetanus antitoxin. Its intended to be used early to protect them until the full course of vaccines starts. But if you missed the 4 week window on mum, then you'll want to give your full course of clostridial vaccine early anyway, first one at about 2-4 weeks old. Your 5in1 or 6in1 etc, will all cover pulpy kidney, so that initial toxoid on its own isn't needed. Hope that makes sense

    I'd rather have healthier, more expensive foods rather than spending money on healthcare due to my diet 👌🏻
