    I use floral foam to college, and the teachers always told us to be careful, use something to cover our eyes, nose and mouth, it's a material that we fear to use. So when I saw this "Satisfying" videos, I was shocked, can't believe how much people are taking themselves or even kids to danger.

    Although floral foam is made from ingredients that are known carcinogens, such as formaldehyde, only trace amounts of these toxic chemicals remain in the finished product. The biggest concern with floral foam is what happens when it's disposed of. The foam isn't recyclable, and while it's technically biodegradable, it actually breaks down into tiny particles called microplastics that can remain in the environment for hundreds of years.

    This is horrifying. I've been using floral foam to prop up leaves for my caterpillars. This was suggested to me by the person who instructed me on how to raise them. When I ordered off Amazon I never noticed any warnings and the box they were shipped in contained nothing but the foam wrapped in plastic and the order slip. No warnings or product information. Not only have I not used any protection, I've been putting them in my compost and letting my young nieces interact with the caterpillars and thus the foam. I'm so disgusted with the disregard for safety from the suppliers.

      Matt’s Channel yes! gloves AND something to protect you from breathing in the harsh chemicals that come off from the foam dust. If you use it one time you will be okay but using it every day has bad long term effects. Florists like me use it every day but since learning this I have since used alternatives to make it safer for me and my clients (:

    I was shocked to find out floral foam was so toxic. I’ve used it but only about twice in my life for the floral foam crush videos that were trending at the time. Of course, I didn’t know the harms and dangers of floral foam. Using floral foam a time or so is fine but if you use it continuously a mask, goggles and gloves are highly recommended to remain safe and avoid dust particles to come into contact with your skin. There is this one woman who put it in her mouth and bit it. I mean SHE SWALLOWED A GOOD AMOUNT OF THE FOAM. Even though she didn’t intentionally bite out a chunk of floral foam and swallow it whole, the particles are nearly inescapable, incredibly small and will end up being swallowed anyway if it makes contact with your mouth. So yes, in a way, she ATE FLORAL FOAM. IT WILL KILL YOU. Please remain safe and use other supplies. You shouldn’t be going out anyways and wasting it, the material or your money. It’s a lose lose situation.

    @floristonthefly1494 Před 2 lety +6

    So as someone who worked at a Flower Shop in England where we did tons of Baskets, Hatboxes, Small Ceramic Pots, Posies and wreaths I have some questions. While chicken wire is absolutely a great alternative for larger arrangements, I can't see it being practical for a basket arrangement or a smaller hatbox or ceramic pot without water going everywhere when it's in the delivery van. Or even just the time practicality - if you have 10 arrangements you need done in 3 hours and 5 aren't a Bouquet or a Vase then it's unreasonable to expect a florist to make chicken wires for each of them instead of using floral foam, especially when you need to make sure the arrangement lasts 5 days to a week for customers to be happy.
    I'm definitely glad you made this video, however I think the floral community needs more nuanced discussion on floral foam rather than never use it or always use it. I will definitely make more of a conscious effort to use alternatives whenever it's a realistic option to do so, and practice safer practice such as gloves, goggles and masks.

    • @Flowersbyalexis
      @Flowersbyalexis  Před 2 lety

      I totally agree with everything you just said. When I know I have an event in advance I will make the chicken wire clusters a couple of days before my event.

      Hi, I do not do silk arrangments, but typically people use styrofoam for silk arrangements which isn’t the same as floral foam

      @@Flowersbyalexis I’ve always wanted to make slime for a while. My favorite types of slime are cloud slime and stretchy slime. The scents are pretty cool too. Clay cracking is kind of like Floral Foam, and I learned about it a year ago. Totally forgot.
