We purchased the truck in 2015 in Cape Town as a standard pickup with 142,000km, and kitted it out for Safari. After driving through 20 African countries, in 2019 we swapped out the rooftop tent and covered pickup for a camper box from #globecamper in France.
Fully equipped Adventure 4x4, perfect for driving the Sahara, down narrow cobbled streets, over mountain passes, and thru remote wilderness exploration, with the comforts of glamping.
As of Feb 2020 we've traveled a total of 92,000km through 42 countries in Africa and Europe. Turkey is #43 and our first in Asia/Middle East.
DIMENSIONS
2.46H x 1.80W x 6.05L - 8'0"H x 5'10" x 19'10" L. We can go anywhere a van can go, including old cities with curved cobblestone streets in Morocco, Europe, and Turkey...
Fuel capacity: 78 + 55liters, with range about 1100km
Water: 75 liter tank
Electricity
- 2x 100ah gel batteries, plus driving battery
- 120watt solar panel putting it about 4.5amps
- 100 watt old panel puts out about 0.5amps
Can sit in shade for 5 days, running 2 fridges and other day-to-day consumption.
Thule awning was a great addition - somewhat helpful for shade (depends on direction of sun), and especially helpful in the rain.

@@Shawn2ndaccount this was in Cappadocia, Turkey. Most people only visit for a couple of days, but it's well worth more as it's a great area to explore.

How long is the inside of the camper? (not including the bed part)
Thanks Terry. If memory serves me, they're 265/75-16, General Grabbers. Very happy with them both off and on road.
Exterior of box is 220cm, so interior is probably around 110cm, excluding the overhang/bed.
The bed is 200cm long. The interior including the bed area is probably around 310cm long

I have seen globe campers online. They look awesome. Was it hard and expensive to import?
We took the pickup truck to France and GC installed the box at their facility - it was super easy.
prices are €35-40k now, plus VAT.

Spacers worked great for the nearly 95,000km I've had them. I'm happy with them.

When fully stocked with food, gear, propane, 75l water, both diesel fuel tanks (132l), and 2 of us with dog (and his stuff) we're around 3.6ton.
The box itself is around 520kg
