I will be making your Grandma’s shawl no matter what it is. My only sister died last month with cancer & I’m making shawls in her honor right now but cancer patients, and their families all need kindness at times like this.

My grandmothers were both independent and strong. My dad’s mom was a business woman before women were doing that! My other grandma was a waif of a person who personally raised her special needs brother on a railroad side track! My grandpa fell for her because she “walked like a Jersey cow”. She was strong and had a heart for everyone! During the depression she was designated the neighborhood nurse and she planted and cared for a garden big enough to feed everyone in the family and surrounding area! God blessed me with grandparents to learn from and admire.
You may not realize it now but it was so good for you to talk to Grandma by talking to us. God Bless your family always and especially during this time.

My husband died Feb 29 4 years ago from pancreatic cancer. He was cremated. When I picked up his Cremains, the pandemic prevented a funeral. He is on my love seat. I'm glad to have him where I can talk to him. Barbara Ann is a beautiful person.
I lost my dad 6 years ago today. I was holding his hand when he passed. Death is a part of life, the hardest part of it. You got to have many many years with your grandma.

Oh no so sorry for your loss. I fully appreciated your loving tribute to “Grandma” and I was crying with you remembering all the things my own grandma taught me. I am 71 now and memories are everything! Cherish all your memories and live through them in your life. My grandma was 91 when she passed and I miss her terribly but it is a blessing to know how much happiness she brought to my life. So sorry for your family’s loss of Grandma. She had to be a strong woman because she was a Navy wife raising those babies on her own. What beautiful way to remember her. I am so glad that you were able to get to know and love her and grandpa. What a beautiful way to honor her memory, I do not know how to crochet but I definitely will knit shawls in her honor as I make a lot of shawls for my husband’s co-workers because they need a hug as they are under going treatment for cancer. I am a blood cancer survivor myself I had leukemia and had to have a bone marrow transplant. Safe travels I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
My mom always made chipped beef and gravy. I don't make it often, but when I do it tastes like home. It is clear that you loved her with all your heart.

I was adopted at age 13. I lived with my adopted parents since 4 1/2 years old. My adoptive grandfather on my adoptive mother’s side said I would not be in his will because I was not Italian blood. Then, my aunt on my adoptive father’s side told me I would not be in her will because I was not Italian blood. When all the family on both sides died, I did not get anything. The other blood cousins got. I knew my blood family.
People can be weird. Being adopted caused me to be eliminated

Your grandmother is still there. She's just sort of hanging out, pointing out all the changes that have happened since your grandfather went on ahead. It's sort of a 'welcome home' from him to her, and her chance to brag to him about 'the kids'. It's a blessing that she was able to give you the strength you needed to overcome your own hurdles and because of that, she lives on. Remember the good times, the laughs, the family stories, all of those warm, cozy, things that will see you through this raw spot. Lastly, the next time someone is getting on your last nerve and they start talking sh*t and you have to remind yourself that snatching a knot in their throat is frowned upon, remember your Gram and laugh like you did the first time she told you about 'the hospital incident'. Sending light and hugs to you and the family.
So sorry for your lose sending a virtual hug to use as and when needed for you and Mr cinnamon. You will never forget your grandma you have some lovely memories of her. My dads mum taugh me to crochet and my mums mum taught me to like making toys as she used to make them for us. My parents were together for 66 yrs when they died I miss them so much

I’m about to be 77. My maternal grandma…….Cinnamon, you are making me cry. I always thought her kinda odd. She suffered from anxiety her entire life. But I loved her and she loved me. She made the best roast beef. And she taught me to crochet. With thread and she never used a written pattern, copied doilies looking at other peoples work. In her last years she crocheted chains, put holy medals on them and they were sent to missions. She made thousands of them. I have her hooks and the left over medals she never got to use.
My dad’s mom had a tough life living with my grandpa and having 13 children in 18 years, my father being the last. When my dad was three months old she drank lye and died. She was 38.

I am so sorry for your loss. We just lost my mother in law November 29, 2023. Mr. Cinnamon was raised by some truly amazing people. I will be praying for your travels. I have done that drive from VA to CA and know how hard it can be. Just know that when you take that trip you are taking grandma and grandpa with you because they are there in your heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I will be making grandma's shawl for sure.

Heartfelt love and sympathy Jen. The hardest part for me was realizing my mom’s passing signaled the passing of her generation. Remember the fun memories that make you smile or chuckle. Those are precious memories.
My Dad passed away on friday May 17th, we had his funeral on Sunday. It's hard when we lose someone we love.
