    If you are going to own one of these go to the factory and watch one being built. If you aren’t a DIY person take a friend who is. Look at things like the fit of doors and trim. Look at quality of materials. If you can u grade to wood instead of paper products like trim. Look at how hinges fit into trim. Ask about material upgrades. Some baseline materials are very flimsy and hard to work with. Note where wood is for later installation of curtains and related. I found that in many cases there wasn’t wood where a conventional framed house would have added a piece here and there to facilitate later additions. Not so I’m the factory. It’s still fast and a good value. Make sure you or a friend are around during set up. Tell the contractor immediately what’s not right. It’s hard to get them back.

  • @jeffagoddard

    $200/sq ‘ is standard where I live for custom builds. That’s $400,000 for a 2000sq’ house. Looks like pre-fab is 30% less - if you like the finishes. Luxury can approach $350/sq’

      Have you looked at the concrete foam. It's fabulous and goes from $12 to $26 sq.ft. I'd stay in that in hurricane season and it's not going anywhere. The mud is blown into forms kinda like a solid form. Don't miss it.

      I know I was thinking the same thing: tornado magnets. They're all lovely homes with beautiful open floor plans, but where does one go in case of a tornado? I live in the south east and fortunately we have a basement. These homes just would NOT hold up against an F2 or F3 needless to say anything thing above that. I guess the risk is your's alone.

    There is a huge difference between a mobile home and a modular home. I would never purchase a mobile home type houe. The build quality of a modular home is vastly superior. Most new home construction in Japan is modular using heavy steel framing.

    • @mbrower3304
      @mbrower3304 Před 3 lety

      To each his own, but the mobile homes built in recent can be pretty sturdy. Some are built with quality materials, i.e., Hardie Board siding rather than vinyl, strong interior walls rather than wallboard, etc. They have to meet certain set standards, depending where you live.

      @@cgstech5657 Yes, it appears they are all in the 1300 ish range for size. I guess I am in sticker shock since my husband did most of the construction of our homes over the years and our current foreclosed remodel with 8 acres of land, 4 bed, 2 bath, attached garage started much less than these. Of course, we do live in the sticks with bears for neighbors. 😊 Still, I enjoyed going to the links and looking.

    I've toured Clayton Homes. They are horrible cheaply built over priced garbage. They smell of toxic chemicals. Also Park Model Homes have a major problem in that the loft for the bedroom is too short. Only a child could stand on the loft. An adult has to stoop or crawl. A no sell on both of these companies for me

    Affordable? Wtf does that MEAN?!?!
    It used to mean, those on modest incomes might be able to have one, but now, all it means is, slightly less than full market value for the 'real thing'!
    I hate the use of the word 'designed' in these videos, as it just means, 'more expensive than it needs to be', because profit will always be king, irrespective of the fact that less well-off people also need somewhere to live!

    • @GVoodoo
      @GVoodoo Před 3 lety

      Less well off people have to shop within their means.... if at all. Hate to be so blunt but too many people these days try to live outside means just to fulfill a "dream."
