  • Over a decade ago I was told about a single concrete jail cell located out in the middle of the Mojave Desert just outside of Mojave and California City in California. In this video I head back out to find this lost treasure and to revisit something I haven't seen in a really long time!

Thanks so much - I've taken a couple of courses on visual storytelling and I'm HOPING that will make the videos much better. This one is my submission for the first assignment! LOL

Nice video I share your love of the back roads. You need to take a metal detector.

A metal detector would be cool - I've never owned or used one so that would be an adventure on its own! Thanks for watching!

I see the new name - looks good. Maybe you can try dusty sojourner destinations.

Hi Duane. Great video. Just saw it now. Spot on what u said at the end about when we go places that it's good to take photos/videos not only for memories but also that these landmarks may disappear over time due to weather, or development and progress. I was wondering if those dirt roads that you passed appeared on your GPS or would they only appear if these dirt roads had a name attached to them like a street or road name.

Great question, I use gaiagps and google maps. Both apps allow for offline downloaded maps (which I didn’t need for that video). But they do great at forest service roads. In this particular area, amazingly enough MOST of those dirt roads have official names. Gaia also has a breadcrumb feature so it works great to help you know how to get out of an area - but you have to turn it on. Do you do much adventuring Chris?

@@dustyroaddestinations Thanks Duane. I will have to look at that galagps as I have never used it before. When I was younger we would drive to Mildura in Victoria about 600km north from Melbourne. Great place as in summer it is always warm there cause you are travelling up north and you are guaranteed warm weather in the summer school breaks there. The mighty Murray River runs all the way from there down the south in an easterly direction and there are some great towns along the Murray like Echuca, Albury, Wodonga. The Murray separates Victoria from another state here , New South Wales.

You should definitely check it out. The interface isn’t the greatest, at least for me. Meaning it sometimes is difficult to use and then remember how you did something. BUT having the offline maps and tracking abilities is great. But google maps is better for normal routing. And when you have the offline downloaded you can have it plan your way out when you have no coverage. BUT you have to have the entire path. If you have a break and no coverage it will fail. I had that the other day where I had a missing section.

Yeah but I think they built a freeway over the site. Really wish I could have found it though...
