Here's guitarist Alan Mearns performing an arrangement prepared by him and Stanley Yates of "Prelude & Passacaglia" from Sylvius Leopold Weiss' "Suite XIII". Alan recorded this piece on a 2024 Wolfgang Jellinghaus "La Leona FE-04-T" classical guitar with tornavoz. The gitiar is made with spruce top and cypress back and sides. Recorded at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.

A perfect example of creativity within the style. Well conceived and brilliantly executed interpretation. Very elaborate, but not overstated.

Just watched Rick Beato's video on this guy. Apparently, although he's a bit mysterious, he produces some of the most incredible recordings, and harmonizes Bach in very interesting ways. Probably one of the most underrated guitarists. I highly recommend following him on Spotify as he does not get as much support there as he should.

Unique transcription and performance! Great interpritation! But the numbering Suite n. 13 is a little incorrect. It was a temporary numbering catalog by Jean-Daniel Forget, which was used by lutenist Michel Cardin on his CD's. Prelude from Suite n. 2 and Passacaglia from Suite n. 13. But this numbering of Weiss` works no longer exists. The correct numbering is: the Prelude from the Sonata n.2 (SW2 or SC2) and Passacaglia from Sonata No.18 (SW18 or SC18). The SW or WSW signature stands for - (Weiss Samtliche Werke), SC - (Smith & Crowford). Future generations of lutenists and guitarists should know this so that there is no confusion.

I am perpetually confused by the Weiss numbering. One suite I played I’ve found recorded using three different numbers haha.
Is there now finally a definitive catalog numbering for all works, or is this still an ongoing process?

Mearns is always brilliant; unique and very tasteful. Also, I don't think I've ever seen anyone play a right-hand/cross-string trill at the same time as a left-hand/hammer-on pull-off trill. It seems so obvious now that you could combine the two, and yet I had never seen it before now. Really cool.
