  • My brother and I wanted to do some surf fishing. Ended up driving all the way to the end of OBX. We had a blast fighting ocean monsters and put some meat in the cooler too! Super fun trip. Wish I was there right now!

    Good times with your brother. I did the same last Sept. My brother and I went to upper Wisconsin for Fall Muskie/pike fishing. I boated two Muskies. 30 and 34 inchers. Catch and release for us. But fun to catch. We bagged some nice pike and bass for some delicious shore lunches. Can't beat fresh fish straight out of the river to the frying pan.

    When I was but a wee lass, we used to camp on Oaka croke Island off of a boardwalk in a 20 man tent my daddy had from the air force. It was hot pink on the inside and green on the outside. We had a camp box, camp stove and washtubs that had inner tubs around them with gigs for fishing for flounder at night with lights. So much fun when you are 6 and living on the beach all summer. And catching horseshoe crabs for the research camp. Great memories on the banks.

      I lived in Norfolk back about 40 years ago.Fished the OB's as well.Came home with 3/4 ice coolers home of trout and flounder fillets. Threw blues back and caught quite a few red's.Horseshoe Crab: Amebocytes from the blood of L. polyphemus are used to make Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL), which is used for the detection of bacterial endotoxins in medical applications.

      @@thehooverboys We used to sell shark and skate belly skin for bait if I caught more than I could use I would get $3 per sq.ft. We would catch a bunch of finger mullet with cast nets and sell them,,too.How you use shark skin is to cut it into 6 in pennants about 1/2 inch wide on the big end.Thread it on the hooks on a bottom rig and it mimics a minnow and last all day.I would catch coolers of flounder and trout on one bait set up and this was in the day before scents were available.I enjoyed your outing and just hope you can go with the family when you get a chance. How to catch a big shark: Use 130 lb braid on a deep sea reel,use 50lb steel leader with a biggg hook and a whole mullet with a cork float to suspend the bait above the bottom.Have a fighting belt cause you might be in a long fight.lol The reel will allow you to cast out about 20 ft but believe me those sharks will find it.I used 12 oz of lead and caught some up to 80lbs.Biggest skate was right at 78lbs.Bye.

      @marydegenkolb9603 Před 4 lety

      The blood of Horseshoe crabs is blue. The lab took a pint and then we took them back and released them. But the flounder gigging was the best fun. No. 9 washtub with a car battery holder, dome light, inner tube around the base of the washtub, it floats, you drag it along. Then use a long pole with a large point on the end to stab the flounder, along the shore at low tide.

    I was stationed at the Naval Facility at Cape Hatteras (Buxton, N.C.) 1969-1972, next to the old location of the lighthouse. The base has been completely removed around 2013.) We would spot the flocks of gulls chasing the minnows being chased by the bluefish. We would grab our surfcasting rods and trot down to the point. Bluefish always strike at the stainless steel Hopkins lures. It was the best surf fishing I've ever experienced in my lifetime. (The lighthouse was moved away from the shore in the 90s.) Now, guys, please get back to metal detecting. I've found lots of good stuff in Va.Beach…Rev. War, War of 1812 buttons, coins, etc. Not at the beach, but inland....try Providence Rd./Lord Dunmore Dr area.

      💥 *...the Silver of the Ocean, Sky, and Clouds, with the Golden Light of the Sun shining a level of Light Energies that flow a Mirror type reflection over the areas it touches. Even the Shark matches the visual of this environment.*
