    These blind tests are great and really shows how we listen with our eyes. I couldn't tell which snare was which, and I feel if you didn't reveal the answers I suspect those leaving comments wouldn't be so confident. Oh and it's pronounced Ludvig.

    FINALLY a well thought out one.
    Absolute ear candy (to my ear it definitely sounds better in the room than close miked, but with some damping things may even out), and I'm getting LEGIT made in germany at (almost) the same price of all that made in china seamed metal stuff!
    I don't think I'll be able to resist long to that 14"x06" (in fact, I might be copping one next week)
    That 13" is also very tempting though...
    Tuned up high it's phenomenal,
    and has a wider range of usable sounds than I'd expected.

    Those shells sound really nice in all tunings, lots of body thanks to the thick shell. I somehow got it right for the blind test, I just had a feeling that Kompressor was the second. It has a more open and resonant tone compared to the SQ2. Color me surprised!

    • @daltonidaho
      @daltonidaho Před 9 měsíci +1

      I can see why they'd be priced higher. The quality of materials may be higher (or perhaps just more expensive), the finishes might be better, labour costs higher if not made in China, etc. yet in the end those things really don't make a heck of a lot of difference to the sound. Have you seen rdavidr's trash can drum video? Even those sounded good! I'm thinking of "downgrading" to a Yamaha Stage Custom and just calling it a day lol.

  • @sebastianfm7337
    @sebastianfm7337 Před 9 měsíci

    Really nice video, though the problem with your miking and mixing is, that almost all snares you present sound great (at least in full mode).
    What I found a bit irritating with the Kompressor Beech though is the high sustain sound in medium and high tuning (The SQ2 was better there). I guess, the snare would need some dampening.

    • @tinterlande
      @tinterlande Před 9 měsíci +2

      Sounding great is a problem? All the character is left intact.

    • @sebastianfm7337
      @sebastianfm7337 Před 9 měsíci

      @@tinterlande , by no means that was a criticism of your videos and the quality of your sound engineering, rather the contrary.
      I should probably phrase it differently. Let me give you an example. I recently went into my local drum store and played the Benny Grey Brass Snare (which sounded very good in your video), but was underwhelmed when I played it myself. I then compared it with the Tama 14*7 Copper Snare, which for me sounded much more impressive (I write this as a Sonor fanboy).
      It is not a real problem. You actually show how a good a snare can sound + you do the comparison with the room mike (which is how it usually sounds in the practice room), which is helpful.

    Not sure why some people are ticked off at the way we pronounce Sonor in the US. Well for the same reason we don't call Father (Vater) a Farter !🤣 (I almost broke out laughing back in College/German). Is Ludwig- Loodwig or Ludwig? How about Hyundai, Toyota, Mazda, I could go on & on. Its marketing y'all. So he's not on Submarine and beeping away ! Its a fk'n Snare drum demo😂🤣😂 ! Now back to Biz, I was thinking wouldn't it be so cool if Tony compared the"Kompressor" with the SQ2 Sonar. Y'all Psychic or something ! Ha ha.

    • @RaphHwang
      @RaphHwang Před 9 měsíci +1

      There are plenty of cases where the anglicised pronunciation of a foreign word makes sense (take "bruschetta"), because it's just an English speaker's way of interpreting a word using the phonetic rules of their own language. Ask a Japanese person to pronounce an English word - same thing. Pronouncing Sonor as Sonar isn't an anglicisation of a sound we don't have in english tho, it's just using the wrong vowel

  • @PrantoKoX
