For a little background, the rabbit (Doki) is a Veterinary Assistant and she had a personal quirk of putting the green scarf on all the animals she helped treat. That's all those animals like the dog, rhino, frilled lizard, etc. But, given the nature of the job, sometimes they don't make it in spite of best efforts. So she's ended up having to part with a lot of them, too.
But there's a tradition in Korea regarding tying ribbons or other strips of cloth to tree branches. You make a wish and tie a green cloth to the branch, and it represents the growth of new spring leaves. And the more ribbons are tied to the tree, the more collective power all the wishes get. Eventually, through collective effort, the entire tree looks as if it were full of leaves (even if they're just green strips of cloth) and _all_ the wishes get granted collectively. And that's what Doki had been doing each time she lost one of the animals she helped treat; she'd bury the ashes near the tree and tie their scarf to the branches, wishing for the world to be a better place where bad things like that don't have to happen anymore.
That's also why it was "love at first sight" for her when she saw Nabi (the cat); he wore a green scarf, just like she used to designate her animal patients. And when Nabi saw the tree, he realized that Doki had been dealing with loss and tragedy for a long time, not quitting after the very first adversity. She ended up losing dozens of her animal patients, but kept pushing through with her cheerful attitude and was *both* actively trying to make the world better _and_ wishing for it to be better.

Also one of my favorite fun facts is that in the last episode when they meet in the airport they act out all the things she imagined in the first episode
ohhh nice catch, though it's many years old, so less of a catch and more of a memory haha.
I dunno if anybody else mentioned it but there's a... spinoff? Sequel? It shows what happens to Doki and Nabi but also goes into that cat girl and one of the thug bunny brothers and their gang. Would also give that a watch just to briefly glimpse at these two love birds again.

Hi! Just letting you know that there's a sequel video out called "There She Is!! another step" where it's a continuation but also we get a glimpse into the backstory of the three brothers on motorcycles. Highly recommend checking it out if you like! SamBakZa said they hope to make more videos from this world of these characters too.
Also, if you're interested in other legendary old CZcams videos, highly recommend looking up "Kaizo Trap" by Guy Collins! Basically, girl gets sucked into a video game and has to save her boyfriend. It's a classic!

I loved it, it's so cute. A classic that shouldn't go with time.
Oh shit, is that There she is? Mein gott that's such a blast to the past. I remember watching it on Newgrounds back in the day. Man I remember thinking it was just gonna be a cute love story between a bunny girl and a catboy and it became an anthropomorphic Romeo and Juliet but with no deaths. I heard somewhere that it was a metaphor for Korean and Japanese people and the rift between them. It holds up too because Nabi is a common Korean name for cats and Doki is well, Japanese.
And man, somehow Sambakza built a world that feels more "alive" than most hollywood productions today. Like when you look at the background art and stuff, it feels like you could breathe the air from it and the world feels "full".

actually the thing that hitted the cat when she threw a bunch of stuff was a pokeball but they censored it because want no issues with nintendo because the whole series used to be in newgrounds WAAAAAAAY back

I remember watching these all the time when they were coming out on newgrounds. I also didn't know I'd still cry during them. Mah guad it hits me in the feels all the same all these years later.

Years and years ago when I first watched this, I had no idea of the context. I get the gemerational hatred. Absolutely monsterous things were done in World War 2, unit 737 and the Korean "comfort" girls being only two of many examples, and that's not taking into account the endless conflict before then. It's hard for the people who lived through that to acknowledge thay most of those who committed those crimes are dead and it had little to do with the current generation. When I was younger I looked at this as just about interracial love, but seeing all their older family members involved and knowing what I know now, it's also about letting go of historical and group hatred.
Yea, my editor is Korean, and he loves this video. So it was his suggestion to watch this. I had no idea what I was getting into. It's pretty dark and deep.
