I really like how Freddy can be a regular guy with normal interests but also take a lot after his dad. He’s smart and he enjoys using his mind. He also likes being a firefighter and chose a job and life Frasier wouldn’t approve of, even though he was well aware he could have met his dad’s expectations. It just wasn’t worth making himself miserable to hold himself up to someone else’s standards and dreams. He’s brilliant like Frasier, but he’s also wise like Martin.
This was the scene where David finally clicked as a character for me. Seeing him struggle with his family's expectations, and how much of his sense of self is wrapped up in academics, gave his some depth he really needed.
Same. His characterisation in the first few episodes seemed ridiculous but then in the middle, it made it clear he basically burnt out from Frasier and Lilith's expectations for him and found the life that suited him. They also started showing his intelligence and more of his parents mannerisms.
So Freddy quit Harvard for a perfectly good reason he realized what (and this is kind of a weird comparison but I think it fits) a lot of child actors realized when they decided to quit acting, they weren't acting because it's what they wanted to do they were acting because it's what their parents wanted them to do.
One of the greatest scenes in the history of Frasier. A call back to the final episode of the first series where Niles asks Frasier “are you happy?” Definitely need more scenes between Freddie, David and Eve. Another really beautiful scene this series has thrown up in every episode. Brilliant acting by both actors and phenomenal writing by the writers. Freddie loves learning but was unhappy in the environment in which he was learning in, something Martin kept warning Frasier and Lilith about. With David, he’s actually happy learning because there is no pressure there. David on the other hand is the same age Freddie was when he left Harvard, he also loves learning but is still finding out who he really is. Grades don’t matter it’s what you do with and how you apply your education that matters. Take Freddie for example, he’s a firefighter. Roz was a producer on show which helped people. Eve is a bartender which also is job where listening and helping people are part of the job. We also see both Freddie and David bonding over learning. Freddie giving David some much needed advice in the same way Martin, Frasier, Lilith, Niles, Daphne and Roz would in the previous 11 series. I’ve loved every minute of this new series and cannot wait for more.
Good catch. It also reminds me when Martin talks to Frasier when Frasier was doing multiple projects and Martin tells Frasier: “you have to ask yourself: what’s going to make me happy? Now?”
It's a wonder that Freddie is most like Martin, when he was primarily raised by Lilith. I would also expect David to be a bit more grounded due to Daphne and his proximity to Martin.
Fraddie is more like Martin because of DNA. But, his upbrining also mean he got that classy side to him. In addition, he is actually really smart and really wise lol
@@kristinazubic9669 Well, children are more influenced by their upbringing. But, adults tends to feel more comfortable in their own skin and just be themselves.
Freddie grew up in a Boston neighborhood, not the most exclusive building in Seattle. Also, Lilith worked full time the entire time she was raising him. Guess who his babysitter was.
Have you watched the last two seasons of Frasier? Daphne was quickly becoming a dominating harpy kilometers away from the original sweet cloudcuckoolander.
This episode has become my favorite of the new series. So much character development in a little over 20 minutes. Give us more cousin bonding scenes please.

That's not how this works... He's actually working on 1 1/2 of Niles pressure... Niles is the Pressure factor... And being half Niles he has Niles ego... So he is self pressuring as well... Also I'm sure Daphne still has the Pub... (Niles clearly kept it going for her... financially...) So he can literally drown himself on a spree to England whenever he feels like it...
Frasier and Lilith as the others. I hope Lilith is more of a regular than just a once-a-season guest this time. I also hope we can actually return to cheers for a special. I don't know how that'd play out, though.
@EveryoneElseIsWeirdImNormal who would they be able to get back though? Only Ted Danson and Woody Harrilson are still actively working. And unlikely he comes back. Danson is the only one i think they could honestly get. Also, they closed the book on a lot of the Cheers characters in Frasier.
This reboot should be less focused on Frasier and more on these two young men. You can't replace the Niles, Daphne, Martin, and Roz dynamic...but you can explore the consequences of their decisions on their offspring. How do they we take from our parents and how do we not? This show was, after all, about two psychiatrist brothers. Let this one be about their sons.
So the joke was that Frasier was really proud of Frederick for saying "DaDa" for the art reasons. But then Lilith said that he was probably just referring to Frasier, and he became really disappointed.
@@clrobertson13 you are right, I was close… Frasier claimed the first time he said DaDa was at a Fritzenheim show in Boston. Lilith claimed he was likely referring to the him and not the type of art they were viewing.
I haven't watched this series yet and some of the element in this otherwise excellent scene makes me a bit hesitant. Basically, I can't believe Daphne would let Niles raise their kid that way. She was too strong willed, salt of the earth and kindly to let her son grow up pressured into a nervous wreck like Niles was. Fred I can believe since he was a child of divorced parents who, I presume, lived in different cities and probably used his upbringing as a battlefield.
What's interesting is they don't necessairly in this scene lay the blame on parents. 'There's always something shinier to grab, you always have to be top of the class.' We saw in the original show that a lot of the pressure Niles and Fraiser suffered, a lot of their glory chasing etc was an internal pressure. It's entirely possible that David is simply very like his Father, rather than 'raised to be that way'. (Keep in mind, Martin raised Niles and Frasier.) But that need to excel simply shows through anyway. It's not that Freddie overcome his parents to walk out of Harvard and find where he belonged, he also overcame himself.
Makes no sense how he wasn't happy at Harvard but he knows and loves talking about psychology. Sounds to me he enjoyed parts of Harvard and he should've focused on those parts.
To be fair, you can have a passion for a field but not want to make it your career. He seems to genuinely love being a firefighter, and it doesn’t stop him from reading, learning and debating, even if he is Freddy Crane instead of Dr. Frederick Crane.
you can enjoy intellectual pusuits while not wanting the pressure of academic scholarship. I like reading Russian literature but would hate to write a graded paper on it.
I don't have access to the show but from what I've heard it seems to be leaning more into the drama. It's an inteesting move, maybe it won't be as beloved as the original series, but it doesn't need to be either. Personally relate to Freddy in a sense, but with art stuff. I'm still amateur at best, but if I really tried maybe i could be better, problem is that trying to get to that point sucked the joy out of it. It became less about expression and more about pleasing social consciousness by trying to mine into the world's bitterness. Eventually, I decided I didn't want to pursue writing as a serious venture and keep it as a hobby, not many people see what I do, but im ultimately happier this way.
I haven't seen the show yet either but it should be its own thing. The original Frasier was a reboot/spin-off from Cheers. It was successful because it took the essence of the established character but wasn't afraid to change the premise or the character for a good story.
The Good Will Hunt-ing of Frederick Crane. When he's done kicking some guy's ass, he'll do your Proust paper for you. NAHH. I don't buy it. If they wanted to make Martin 2.0 (and how tactless and disrespectful that is, but it's what they wanted), then make Freddy less intellectual. Because he's literally Matt Damon right now. I await for him to demonstrate intellectual superiority to some guy in a bar, and then ask the guy if he likes apples.
