The thing I learned right away with pedals is the importance of blending clean signals especially with compression. Compressions that auto blend are not always the right sound or feel for compression. Blending clean and modulated signal is one of the most dynamic options on pedals.
👍👍👍
I agree 👍
Excellent thanks
🙌🙌🙌
Thanks
I’m new to bass
👍👍👍
Nice selection! I would definitely put a Radial DI on the very end of this chain.
Thanks for sharing. Nice explanation and overview. I just bought a Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig v2 multi effects which includes Compressor, EQ, Drive, Octaver, Fuzz, and Chorus all in one. I'm still playing around with it and getting used to how to manipulate it in the way I want.
Thanks :)
Nice suggestions!
I tried many compressors, and because in most cases I am getting compressed by someone else later in the chain I opted for not having on on my board.
I’d switch that option to a preamp so I can have tone shaping capability for different basses and rooms.
As far as a modulation, I have always liked phaser on bass. Just has that sound I love.
Great video dude!
Thank You so much, man!! Means a lot! 🙌
I wish I wasn’t so happy with my MXR compressors, because I’d love a justification to grab a couple of those DarkGlass compressors. They just sound great.
Thanks Erik!
Those white MXR ones are GREAT, though! If you need justification, maybe just consider the DG ones being the key to a slightly different type of tone? ;)
😂 love your explanation of the octave pedal usage…👇🏻 🎹 👇🏻. Entertaining review!
Thanks!! 🙌🙌🙌
A Korg Pitch Black into the Fender Downtown Express and Im happy.
Whatever floats your boat! 👍
That's exactly my current setup! I also want to add a Line 6 M5 for fun and versatility.
Excellent i have all of them
I just add a looper
💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Great choice of pedals. Which is why I run a QC!
Haha same here, actually 😂
Pretty cool. I have a Blackstar amp and other than the tuner this pedalboard is built into the amp. It's more of a pedalboard lite since all of the effects are very limited in the adjustments and locked into the order. I picked up the bass again a couple years ago after a 25 year hiatus, never used pedals before so the built in effects are a nice intro to me and good in a pinch. I did recently get a DemonFx (Origin Effects clone) Cali76 compressor, that is a huge improvement over the onboard compressor and I can't imagine playing without it now.
A nice comp is ALWAYS great to have 😁
Agree with tuner, comp, octave and distortion (overdrive, fuzz, dirt in general). Personally, I would rather have some sort of preamp instead of chorus.
👍👍👍
I was going to look into more pedals but finances and inflation tell me otherwise for now. So I currently have a Morley wa, a berringer overdrive, a berringer reverb delay combo, and a boss loop station. I almost picked up a chorus but right now finances are tight.
Totally understandable!!
I only need my bass and cable and amp.
And like 1000 pedals
You and me both ❤️
I used to be a bass-cable-amp guy. Then I got a job and learned how to properly use pedals and have a full board now, mostly to spice up practice.
👍👍👍
Nothing wrong with the pedalboard but I would include a compact modelling unit like the HX Stomp and a synth pedal - Source Audio C4. These two pedals bring heavy processing power to your rig, all the effects you (don't) need, signal chain flexibility and can replace some of the other pedals (like the chorus or one of the comps).
The HX Stomp is a tricky one that I didn’t want to include on the list for a few reasons… first and foremost, it’s like an entire pedalboard of its own 😂
Had to an Eq and, (I couldn’t help myself) a reverb!
👍👍👍
I can never seem to condense my board to just 5
I think if I was gigging I could but most of the time I’m just stuffing around creating sounds in my music room so why wouldn’t I want to try and have all the sounds
This list was/is mostly aimed at bass players who haven’t started going down the slippery slope of pedals just yet :) But yeah, I totally see your point!
@@erikarko and isn’t that slope super slippery haha
Indeed it is 😂🤣
Do you have any cool configuration for your Adam? trying to get some more 80s rock metal and 90 from it
czcams.com/video/JrSKtSkIuUE/video.html Try the settings I used there (if you set the playback speed to 50% you should be able to pause the screen at the right moment!) and dial back the drive a wee bit, perhaps? :)
i don't even know how many clip on tuners i bought, before i buckled down and got a Tuner Pedal .... but My Tuner Pedal Still Works ( that's why you get a tuner Pedal )
👍👍👍👍
I've only got two pedals so far. A Preamp/DI and a tuner....lol
Every journey starts with one step ;)
I only need my bass, cable, and a.. I'll leave now 😔
😂😂😂
Get a HeadRush MX 5. It's ALL in there plus cabs and amps. $400. About 12"x 10", weighs a couple pounds. It's a game changer.
There’s also the HX Stomp.. or just go full on digital with the Quad Cortex ;)
Screw the pedals. Gimme dat Vincent Bass 🤪🤣
😂🤣
All I need is my bass and my amp! Your video made me feel butt-hurt! 😡😝😝
😂😂😂😂😂
You forgot the eq pedal
👍
No preamp? All bassplayers should have have a preamp with DI! =)
How essential is it?sorry new to pedalboard building. I was only thinking of getting the 4 pedals I need, a volume pedal and thats it. What am I missing if I dont have a preamp?
If you’re planning on running your pedalboard straight to the FOH, then a
Preamp/DI is essential for toneshaping and whatnot :)
@@erikarko thank you for the free info. Indebted of you.
