If any of you want a cheap way to steam your hair just take a really hot bath for about 30-45 minutes and cover your head with 2 plastic bags or shower caps. Works like a charm. If your hair is excessively dry, you can add some fresh aloe vera from root to tip before you steam it. Hope this helps somebody♡
Havalyn Davis also a clothes steamer $8 from Walmart lol
angeljar2012 I saw a natural use that method before. Lol
Yeeees I do this everytime I deep condition my hair. With my hair in a plastic cap while I wash my body
Does Aloe Vera work for low porosity hair?
Blaire Glanville Yes it does. I'm a low porosity woman myself and I must say it has worked wonders. My hair is so much shinier and retains moisture better since using it. I recommend fresh aloe vera though
I really tried focusing on what you were saying but I couldn't stop looking at your hair! Gorgeous💕💕
Girl, your hair is growing so pretty!
You are giving me Coming to America -- when the "Queeeeeeeeen" walks in! Girl!!!
This girl knows what she is talking about. One of the few on CZcams that does.
Loved this video!!!!!!! I'd love to see a week in your hair video, like starting with washday on to how you maintain your styles throughout the week and stuff.
Bianca Owens yes its a great suggestion ❤️😘
Bianca Owens I agree because I be having to redo my styles overnight because I can't maintain it through the week.
Bianca Owens
Yep👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Same here! I loved to see how you maintain moisture throughout the week, especially if you styled it. Please do a vid on that! Lots of love!
I literally put leave in conditioner on my hair and detangle it, then I moisturise it oil it. Afterwards I braid my hair. I maintain the styles for a week by putting a hair scarf when I go to bed. And take it off after wearing my schooling uniform. Also, you can lay your baby hairs the night before. This helps my hair maintain the moisture and my hair grew a lot the last few months
If you want to steam your hair and can't afford a hooded hair steamer try using a clothes steamer it works just as well and they're cheaper. I use my clothes steamer when my hair is in twists(protective style) and the hooded steamer when my hair is loose. There's a few CZcams videos of people using a clothes steamer on their hair, don't knock it until you try it ✌🏾Thanks Laila 🙂
Be careful though I scalded myself using a regular steamer it didn't even seem that hot but it was too late when I felt it...
absolutely, be careful with any steamer.
Ms.Kandyce I do that too when I don't feel like a sitting under the dryer or my Gold n Hot bonnet
For those of you who haven't purchased Laila's hair butter yet.....ya'll missing out! I bought her butter to support her (I like her videos) but to be honest I wasn't expecting much. I figured, if it didn't work (like so many I have purchased) it would still get used up by using it as a body butter. Ya'll.....when I spray my moisturizer, then put some grapeseed oil, then use this butter, my hair is moisturized! AND, I'm a straightened natural and my hair doesn't revert. This butter is very light and would be a staple for many of you.
Dianne Saint
Thanks for the advice. Ur a straight haired natural.....what is ur routine for straightening pls e.g. how frequent, what temp, maintaining moisture, stopping reversion? I'm thinking of doing this too 😊
Ah ah loool 😂😂😂!!! The infamous "dry yet greasy" hair. Seriously, this is the worst because you're convinced that your hair is being properly moisturized but it’s not...😒😧
My face does the same 😫🙄 pure grease but dry as heck
🙋🏾♀️ guilty
Speak the truth!! I hate this!!😩
LAWD! your hair is absolutely beautiful!
My favorite part of the video was when you stopped and said "MY GOD" for mixing the hot oil & steam !!!! Lol I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU SAY. I wash my hair weekly and deep condition weekly overnight and my hair is waist length after big chopping 2 years ago. #whippedsheabutter #ISLIFE ! I love your natural hair & how much you care about the health of our hair as well.
Waist length after big chopping 2 years ago & I've been stuck at shoulder length hair for the last 5 years?!? Sigh my life sucks!!! Lol congrats on your hair progress....I wish mine would grow like yours x
Hey honey..may just be time to change up on your hair game and add or omit products, make sure u support hair through your diet too. I'm not like Ashley either😞😫but we all have different rates our hair grows..dust split ends, and like Laila said..moisturize, moisturizer//💦 I'm 2years @ 100% natural. I'm slightly past bsl..started with hair damaged and ate up🤕 Barely at shoulders..be patience, don't stress..length doesnt always = healthy hair💇🏾.. And massage 💆🏽 that scalp.stimulates blood flow..good luck and keep on your journey! You'll c results👊🏽
Mich I honestly just stick with products I found to work & keep my hair moisturized for at least 7-8 days & built my regime (as some call it) based off that because I big chopped the end of my freshman year in college & now I'm a senior so I didn't have money to constantly buy products all the time. So I guess keeping it strict helped retain the length along with small trims every 4 months. I say just always keep your scalp moisturized with an oil or a light oil if your hair can easily get weighed down and that'll keep the new growth healthy as it grows out until you know the "holy grail" products to keep the rest of your hair just as moisturized :) I started with 3 inches of hair stretched out and now over 20 inches staying consistent, so my huge take away from going natural is just that. I hope this helps and I'm sorry it's so long of a reply lol I learned that some people actually like detailed responses on my social media. HAPPY HEALTHY HAIR GROW LOVE !
+Yoyo7424 M Hey darl, thank you for the lovely & informative response I do appreciate it. You're so right, I really do need to make a change especially diet wise! I need to start researching what types of food can help with hair growth, as of right now I rarely eat fruits or veg! lol will definitely start to dust my ends too, haven't had a trim in a while!! wow bsl after 2 years, that's amazing! I need to get on like you guys! hehe! moisturising is definitely key, I'm really gonna keep on top of that for sure! You're so right regarding length not = healthy hair it's very true! I just bought a scalp massage brush, so will be using that during the wash process! Thank you once again for everything...stay blessed. x
+Ashley Lewis Hey hun, no problem at all in regards to the long response I love that as it does truly help if someone goes into detail, so it's greatly appreciated! :) Ohhh I never thought to keep my hair moisturised 7-8 days, I usually would moisturise maybe 3 times a week if that!!! I'm a product junkie, but like you said having a regime with products that works is better for sure. I'm gonna start trimming regularly too like, both you & Yoyo suggested. I just hate going to the hairdressers as they're scissor happy! lol As for the scalp, can I please ask what type of oil you would suggest. I think I have low porosity hair, if that helps at all...you've made amazing progress from 3 inches to 20 inches, that's inspiring for sure & gives me hope! You've been super helpful, thank you for taking the time to reply. Stay blessed x
happy you did this. It's sad when ppl just accept the dryness and blame it on texture
probably why 5 years later my hair is still fighting the same length
Naturalista Neekz saaame
Has your hair grown now?
I love your plants in the background! Can you do a video about them?
Hi Laïla, not hair related but please can you tell me where is your dress from ? You are just fabulous !💕
Sophie Ademar lol yes
I gotta invest in a steamer and stop slacking on hot oil treatments
Stacey M best thing I ever did, girl I feel like it change my grain on me.
Lex Joseph what brand do you have?
Secura s-192
thanks = )
Stacey M Hey I purchased a Qredew hand held steamer for about 70 bucks. Best thing I ever did it makes detangling a breeze! They're on Instagram
I clicked so damn fast 🤗🤗🤗🤗
You too! I did the same thing!
Amina Mbuyamba me too lol
rotflmbo!!!
I get the beautiful black mermaid vibes..❤️❤️
Monaedeezy Yes!
Girl, you ain't lying about what you said about dryness! When I keep my hair moisturize everyday (under my protective styling) my hair grow its half an inch a month.
Hey Laila...Love this video...and I can testify her Whipped Shea Butter is AMAZING!!! Rewind about 6 months ago and it was dry I mean DRY and breaking so off so bad. Now my hair is so soft and flourishing!!! Patience is key. Thanks again Laila!!!
I'm so happy that you mentioned washing your hair can alleviate dryness because I get so annoyed when people don't want to use shampoo. Then they complain about dryness. It doesn't matter if you don't use cones, mineral oil, or petroleum, hair can still get coated with oils and butters. I have to use shampoo 1x a week and it's a sulfate shampoo and I love it. Thank you for this video!
Sherlyn Delva My Mum always says "why are you washing your hair again" because I wash it weekly. She washes her hair once in a blue moon then tells me her hair is dry!
empress395 my mom and aunt are the exact same way like your mom! One time I told my aunt that I was going to wash my hair tomorrow and she was like your hair looks clean, why do you have to wash it now? My mom and aunt think I wash my hair too frequently but my hair is growing and it's moisturized so I'm not sure why they feel that way.
Old fashioned beliefs that black people can only wash their hair once a month or longer.
Sherlyn Delva damn straight. I use sulfates, petroleum, mineral oil laden products (I'm high porosity I need the extra coating) and I don't have any problems with them. Actually all of the "natural no-no's" work better for my hair than sticking to "all natural" products.
good info on this video.. and u are so right about washing your hair..especially if your strands are thin like mine..i was co washing my hair weekly and washing it maybe once or twice a month..and my hair was growing but it would get so dry and my ends would become so frayed that they would break off..or I would end up cutting them off..either way my growth was n vain..and i was watching CZcams and a vlogger was saying the same thing you stated about the importance of regular washing...so i started back washing my hair weekly and sure enough the dryness ended..whewww thank goodness because before that I switched up products..even created a few from scratch..but nothing worked until I started back washing my hair on a weekly basis..
Kimberly Dooley Yes same!
Girl your hair is flourishing!! I love it!
I started doing a hot oil treatment once a week and it worked wonders my hair grew so much. I also wash my hair once a week, detangled it every day. But I had major surgery and so I got off that hair routine so my hair now is just dry and not growing. Gotta start doing it again
All I can say is BEAUTIFUL😍
#HairGoals
I started steaming my hair and I LOVE IT! My hair feels WONDERFUL!
Gurl your hair looks so touchable, 🤤🤤
I love how expressive and thorough you are 😊
Tutorial for this hair???🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Natalie Joseph She has one. Video is called 3 strand twist.
This is so true. Dry hair really is the cause of everything. I lived in the tropics in Port Douglas, Australia and that was the best my hair ever was. My hair grew like CrAzY!!!! I never put any oils in it, never wrapped it at night and it just grew and grew. I conditioned it daily after going to the gym and left a leave in conditioner and that was it. I also went the whole year without using any heating utensils... no blowdryer, straightener, nothing... so I'm sure that was part of it. But the minute I moved back to New York.. POOF! My hair fell it. All of it smh... now I'm in New Zealand and I'm finding its worse than New York but being at such a high altitude in the mountains with some of the driest air on the planet that explains why my hair flourished in the tropics and snaps off in any other climate. I'll definitely be trying these things. Thanks!!
hair buildup from chemicals in water is another issue. In the tropics we bathed with rain water and in NY there's tons of chemicals. Investing in a purifier is a good idea as well to eliminate some of the build up in your hair from chemicals. Clarifying shampoo is great too for removing build up
Yaaaaas you always come through for me. Lord knows my hair is dry as the Sahara Desert🙄
BTW are there any natural hair salons you'd recommend? I need a trim but don't want to mess my hair up
OurSimpleLyfe I don't think she's been in a salon since she went natural. she does her own trims and has a couple of videos showing how she does it but they're not really tutorials, just what she does
OurSimpleLyfe I use StyleSeat to find salons by me. I don't know if you're in the U.K. Or the U.S. But you can download the app and find someone to trim your hair
Stacey M hiya. I'm actually in the UK.
You are just a fly young lady. Keep on inspiring!!😄
just finished watching your clay videos and lo another! your hair looks absolutely gorgeous!
thank you for sharing the hair tips.
Your hair beautiful! You were the first person I started looking at when I decided to go natural. I'm so happy almost 4 yrs later I'm still able to watch videos from you.😊
I have a Q redew steamer and I love it! It's hand held and easy to use in between wash days to add back moisture
Amen,I love love my q-redew steamer
OMG! The beauty... the moisture in that gorgeous hair!
I'm swooning - new subbie!
Yessssss!!!! Moisture and protective styling grew my hair!!!
Your hair looks AMAZING! Just the boost I needed to get back focused on growing my hair out. Time to get past this bra strap length. I've been watching your videos these past few days.
Greasy dry hair is the worst! 🙄 But thanks for the video, I might finally invest in a steamer :)
That hair though!!! 🙌🙌🙌❤
Appreciate this! I just wish you did this topic in the winter ! I needed help for a while there , lol.
dryness is my main problem. i would have retained much longer hair,if it wouldn't get so dry in the winter...
and i have not found a leave in that my hair accepts...it always feels brittle when i put leave-in in.
Jesse the Smartass very good advice! My hair game changed once I discovered that my low porosity hair looooves warm products💁🏾
thank you i will try it out!
Rizegirl try taliah waajid leave in mist the body fier also world's of curls experiment with essential oils mix with water
I second the warm leave-in, however your problem may be deep conditioning. I notice that no leave-in works well, even my staples, when my hair is not well deep conditioned. The job of the leave-in is to help with smoothing and styling so you have to start with well moisturized hair. Also, you might not be using enough product for your hair type. Always apply until your hair feels slippery and saturated. If your hair feels tangly/brittle when wet, it will dry tangly. You may also want to try reapplying leave-in on day two to see if that makes a difference. If your hair is more moisturized by day 3, then you need to be applying more product on day 1. Low porosity hair problems. ;)
@Minimal Assembly thank you for your indepth comment!! I always get confused with low and high porosity... My hair dries very quick so it is low porosity? and you are right I'm slacking on my deep conditioning :(
Your hair looks wonderful... Thank you for this video.
Thanks you Nia 💞
Literally what I needed to hear as I tried to detangle my hair and I was like “I gotta shave the whole head” the steam trick really came in handy FOR SURE
You're so gorgeous
I am sooooooo happy you're posting consistently again! You're my all time favorite natural hair youtuber. and I have to settle for everyone else whenever you don't post! lmao
I don't say this often, but its official, You are my new hair crush
awww thank you! I'm honoured😘
Your hair is actually goals !
You're hair is EVERYTHING!!! and thank you always giving us great info!
Your hair is gorgeous!!!!
you look like a queen!!!
Hey Laila I suggest the Huetiful Hair Steamer! I've had mine for more than 3 years and ut is amazing! Thanks for all the great videos! 😉
Great video sis; sounds like this works well for low porosity naturals. For high porosity naturals, a steamer is only going to lift your cuticles wider.
Well! She told me! Guess I'm going to wash and steam my hair tonight!
how can ppl dislike this video ? everything about it is gorgeous 😍😍 love the volume of your hair !
I returned things with no problem, there customer service is great.
I also wash my hair weekly and since I started years ago my hair grows much faster and got so healthy
did a hot oil treatment yday with shea butter and my hair feels silky!!!
You are so alluring! I'm going to revisit hot oil treatments. I haven't done them in years.
I deff have dryness but I've been using Shea butter as a sealant and it's been getting better
Visionaress shea butter can coat and buildup on the hair over time blocking moisture from being able to enter the hair cortex ❤️
I used artisan well water on my hair and skin and both were left very soft unlike when using city water that left me dry and really itchy skin.
I'm excited to try the shea butter! My low porosity hair has only truly felt moisturized maybe ONCE in the two years I've been natural
Roshann Harris Low porosity hair loves Shea butter!
shadele17 now I'm even MORE excited!
I just love your videos! Can you please start doing monthly favorites? And I'm not talking just about beauty favorites, but lifestyle, fashion/style, travel, etc? I love watching these on other channels because it gives us a glimpse into new things and experiences we haven't had. But there are very few (beautiful and fashionable) brown girls that do monthly favorites that are more than just beauty products. Thanks for considering the request. :)
your hair is GORGEOUS
Step 1 💦 water, step 2 steaming/hot oil, and 3 wash your hair!! Got it!!!
What a beautiful black queen!
Your hair has definitely grown over the years #Goals😍
Ur hair is absolutely gorgeous!
hi! Im from África
I just love your channel
My hair's texture is exactly like yours
Finally found someone who has my type of hair
Velma Silva
I didn't know Africa was a country 🤔
+Famgyal actually Im from cape verd
cape verd is a country from África, and África is the continent
but Im sure thats nothing wrong saying Im from África, even if it is a continent
África is huge, and since the people of my country is a mix of a lot of cultures from África, Im ok with that
sorry for the misunderstanding
Famgyal she did not say it was
Velma Silva
lol a rehtorical question. I just wanted to know what country you were from. That's Interesting though 👌
+ochirios1234 thank you
This hair cut Is perfect.
"...my friend I beg of you, wash your hair" 😄😄Yes!👏🏾👏🏾 Loved this vlog👌🏾
LOVE the HAIR MATE!! Gorgeous!!!
I had crazy dryness a couple weeks ago when I took out my faux locs. and I used bentonite clay, conditioner and deep conditioner. it was still dry. I did my regular loc and had my natural hair out for a while, spritzing my hair each day. it went back to its regular state just before I put in my new braids last week
The information you've shared helps a lot. I've save this info so I can always go back to it. I'm sharing this with my family and friends. Thanks and keep those amazing videos coming.
A really great video. Some useful tips I always get some new insight in your videos.I love the summertime vibe of your outfit. xx
pleeeeeees could you post a video about frizz. it's been my struggle since I've been natural
Me too, I live in The Caribean my hair hates this climate !!
HOW SWAY??? You really think you can do US like that??? SNATCHING ALL THE EDGES WITHOUT HESITATING .........
😂😂😂😂
Buy a ninja bullet blender then purchase extra cups with lids. Then use aloe Vera leaf by itself or with a little essential oil and blend up hair treatments and 100% natural skin care products. ; )
Your hair looks absolutely stunning in this video! Keep up the good work.
Your hair is absolutely beautiful!
Love love love your channel. Thanks to you my holy grail for detangling my hair is apple cider vinegar!
I'm definitely going to be recreating this style on my 4c hair. Hopefully it looks just as awesome. Or somewhat like it😆

Honestly I’m just here because I saw the thumbnail and desperately want a tutorial for this style 😭 your hair is VERY similar to mine in terms of texture and length so I’m definitely gonna be browsing through and stealing some of your looks 😂

Hey there, Nubian Princess. You remind me of "Downtown Julie Brown" lol!
She's probably old enough to be your grandmother by now, but yeah...I guess it's
