Do you ever give Link different names for the lulz? Like Lank, Link's tall skinny cousin. Lonk, Link's morbidly obese stepbrother. Lunk, Link's mentally challenged half-brother. Or Lenk, Link's evil hacker THIEF twin. Or even Lynk, which became Skipe for Busyness.
If I do change the name I keep it at Lonk. Mostly because of a meme I saw a long time ago and that just stuck with me. If I can find the picture of it I'll post it somewhere. That aside I had no idea some of those names had built in backstories. Lol might have to use Lenk at some point.
If I was link, I'd destroy the last nightmare, and hope someone rescues me from the egg. No one disappears, and the island is safe, but Link will never again awaken, like the Windfish. Link and Marin live happily ever after! 😊

Something that never seems to get mentioned is that this game is clearly referencing the story of Azathoth from the Cthulhu Mythos. Long story short, Azathoth, also known as The Blind Idiot God, has been in a deep sleep since the dawn of time and all of creation was spawned form his dreams. And should he ever awaken, the entire universe will cease to exist. The instruments Link collects might even be a reference to the troop of musicians that are constantly playing music to keep lulling Azathoth back to sleep.
Now that is interesting and something I was not at all aware of. My HP Lovecraft knowledge is about as surface-level as it gets. Now that you mention it I'll have to take some time to check it out at some point.
I love this game. But, I will admit, when I first played it and learned that I was the one who made all that island go away, kinda felt bad. I also would keep sword and rocks feather on 99% of the time. The best combo ever. The best part of this game was, as you said, is it being portable. I would play this on the bus going to school or just in the car when we would go places. Also, moustache Leon made me laugh.
For being a smaller game this one sure packs a punch. It is pretty upsetting knowing that the fate of the whole island really rests on your choices. Also, the fact its portable is extra great. Nice little adventure you can take everywhere. Glad that mustache bit landed. It was a spur of the moment type thing
It is a solid title. Having never really beat it until now this has definitely earned a spot in my favorites in the series. Thanks for hanging for a bit, glad you liked the vid.
@LeonKiske It took me forever to realize that Link probably would have drowned if he didn't wake the Wind Fish. The whole thing is so tragic, but wrapped in a silly package. It's masterful storytelling for what it is. Thanks again, excellent job.
Im not sure, i never played botw or totk but i saw a footage of a guy who tried to bring a golden horse to a island on the east coast... the guy landed on a beach with palm trees, and briefly looked up... in the fog, the island looked like koholin island... and near zora domain, there is an island shaped as a flying whale... i think it is called Eventide island
Yea, I saw something similar when I got to that area in TotK, it might be there in BotW but it's been a hot minute. Safe bet though since they both share the same base map layout. It's a cool detail that the games highlight for people keen enough to spot it.
Dude, you are like the only CZcamsr in history to actually pay attention to the story of Link's Awakening! Marin was more than just a dream! Yeah, DX screwed up the story and didn't actually show Marin getting her wings and the remake damaged the story even further but the original keeps the plot twist intact! You're beating over the head over and over again with the assertion that everything is just a dream. Even before you open the game packaging, you see that the game is called Link's Awakening. You're told over and over again throughout the game that everything is just a dream, but when you finally beat the game, you get to see Marin and the wind fish in the waking world and you discovered that Koholint May or may not have been a dream, but at least some aspects of it were more than just fancy.

That's unfortunately par for the course for any gameboy game. They gotta do a lot with very little. Still, if ya pay attention even a little bit you can see the real ideas they were trying to get across. Solid game and story all around. One I'm gonna be thinking about for a long time. I mean shoot, we've got plenty of allusions to Koholint in BotW/TotK, we've got The Ballad of the Wind Fish in MM and we've got Marin after the credits in LA! As much as Koholint was dreamlike, it's more than JUST a dream.

Still a fine system. Been wanting to find a decent one to add to a collection. Though, save that for another time. I also noticed a lot of Koholint stuff in other Zeldas. BotW and TotK for sure. Didn't know about MM though. Gonna have to keep an eye out for that when I get to it. That credits sequence in LA got me good though. Can't look at Marin the same after that.
