Last year, late on a Sat. night, my 81 year old dad called and told me to turn on PBS quick. Imelda/Jeff Beck with the Les Paul special from NY. Got DVD. Great stuff. She is a goddess on the ears and the eyes. More please.
She sang this in SF earlier this year, and I think this particular song showcased her wide vocal range. This video doesn't capture it as well as in person, but it's still very impressive.
@j1001s27sw That "big baddass" is her husband Darrel Higham, arguably the best rockabilly guitarist in the UK. For obvious reasons he's touring with Imelda these days, but his own show was always something not to be missed.
@tomthefunky Your right there ! He once jumped off the stage during one of his own gigs and beat the shit out of a heckler in the crowd that threw a bottle. He latter got back on stage and said "sorry about that folks" and carried on with the show !
Thank you, Imelda! Why wouldn't you sing 'poor boy* like YOU'VE got a long way from home... ' ('cause you do not look a guy at all) - and show someWHERE to the crowd, or if and when, you've got the gigglin' trigger to have some fun and give to someone a very special, deeptouching moment- show someONE in the crowd. Hmmmmmmmm! May Jesus bless you! X Rockabilly-singer
I have no idea what point you're trying to make. The Blues started as the music of Southern Black people, but it has become a world art form, and one of the few that is sung in its native language no matter where the artist comes from. I've heard French Jazz, Thai opera, and Chinese rap, but the blues is always the blues no matter where you come from, or what you look like. The blues is bigger than the box you're trying to put it in. I say she and the band laid it down pretty hard on this one.
I just made a reference to her "trying" to sing "black music" which we all know that is what she is "trying" to do. Blues is distinctly black music genre. I did not define the genre that was done way before me. But to make a big deal of a marginally talented rendition of some black inspired song, when there are many times more soulfull and talented black people that do it better in obscurity just rubs me wrong. Elvis, Pat Boone and many others have done it over the years, this is just another1
