Batman looks like he just took out his dentures
Todd really drop the ball on this one, was it a rush job? he drew both characters so he should have a great source material for reference and should have given us a really cool and accurate set but it looks like he just put together 2 reissues and repaint them. he really missed a big opportunity to score great points with his fans, maybe he will make it up later. great review.
Definitely a rush job. I think he is just always doing 100 things at once these days. seems like he is only willing to go all out with these KickStarter figures. Otherwise these regular releases are rushed and lack serious paint.
I honestly think it was really cool to have both the Dark Knight aka Batman and Spawn to pair up for a team up crossover because those 2 characters are unique while kind of the same, This 2 pack is good but the Batman head sculpt is blech and the Year 2 body mold needs to go 100% out of the picture, Great review Toyshiz.

The flimsy weapons are the biggest issue i have with McFarlane. Weapons drooping all over the place on my McFarlane shelves. Wish there was a suitable way to harden them.
The more I see that Batman, the less I like it. The Spawn, however, is awesome! Best one since the Kickstarter definitely. Too bad they don't sell this Spawn separately. Maybe i'll come up on someone selling a loose one on eBay eventually.

Individually each figure would be cool pick ups, but as a Spawn/Batman 2-pack representing the crossovers only Spawn resembles the version of the latest x-over. The Batman, I have no clue which version they were going for. If they were aiming for the Troika suit then just make him all black! Why the deep dark gray for the suit? If they wanted to match the latest x-over they could have used the Hush Batman body with the Dark Knights Metal Batman head which is the Capullo style head, and that's it!
Batman CLEARLY wins! He will eventually outwit Spawn in some way or another… right?!
Yes
Berates and critiques Spawns' fighting style while having his @ss handed to him, but comes back and battles Spawn to a draw after he finds some power gauntlets that even the odds.

I don’t understand why McFarlane won’t make Batman look accurate to the comic book drawing on the toy box. This Batman’s ears are longer than what it’s shown in the box and it looks better. They still look cool though.
I think it works as a SCULPT for what some people call the "Troika" suit, aka the suit he wore one issue after Troika and in Morrison's JLA through No Man's Land.
IF you give him the Hush head, the Vampire Batman claws, tint the black blue, and get rid of the trunks.
The sculpted details for the belt, cape, and chest emblem are right for the JLA suit, minus the head and hands. It would require no new tooling at this point, at least. Just a different deco.
And, technically, I think the JLA suit has gold for the belt and emblem rather than yellow.
But the sculpt now exists! Across three different figures, in the wrong colors.
Spawn wins against Batman
There is a promo image that these two figures were clearly inspired from when the announcement that Batman and Spawn comics with McFarlane and Jim Lee was going to be brought back again

People really hate that Batman and are saying he doesn't look like Todd McFarlane's artwork but I love him because he unintentionally looks just like the Kelley Jones Batman.
3 Jokers and any of the big boot MK 11 variants work for me. Now if Todd does a Knightfall repaint with a new take on the 10th anniversary Spawn, he'll get my attention

I've been reading comics for over 30; years but I started collecting in like 2019 and I really don't have a Spawn (well, i do have the Throne Spawn...). All of the other Spawn figures were overpriced.
This Batman, I can take or leave but I'll find something to do with him. I think I'll be happy!

Depends who is writing it. People don't like it when Batman loses. Spawn is OP for days though. I'll say tie. They'll just end up teaming up, as per the usual agreement.

I was SO excited for this set, as I would have loved to have figures based on the Miller/Mcfarlane crossover comic that is depicted on the box. Once the photos came out, though--easy pass, which my wallet is always appreciative of. Hope Mcfarlane decides to take another crack at this one day.
ToyShiz, the set had so much potential to then fall into the reuse pit. Batman primarily, who had the strange vision of what Batman this was? The Spawn is the highlight for sure and the back drop art was great. The skulls needed (no surprise here) some paint and a wash. As to who wins you know the the logic who writes the encounter, who benefits. Keep it real ✌️
Outside of the Kickstarter figures, McF Toys clearly does not care about releasing quality products anymore. They care about producing as much as they can as cheaply as possible now.
Batman. He has a contingency plan for everything.
I'm going to try to get this for the spawn, I have about a million batmans, but I don't have one that looks like that yet.
Batman wins and I am excited for this set. I am debating on if I should put it on my work desk or my collection at home.
The neca Batman headsculpt reminds me of when mad hatter gets you in the Arkham games
I'm always wanted a spawn fig growing up but always a little to pricey an really hard for a 8 yo looking at Walmart in earth 2000s but this was unfortunately my first spawn an batman fig but it opens up my world too all the good spawn figs an custom capes
Shame they couldnt just make the lower face on Batman a swappable piece to switch between the screaming face and a regular face
At the end of Troika, Batman kept the suit but added upgraded but more traditional gloves & boots to the suit. If they would’ve removed the trunks, this would be an accurate mid-late ‘90s Batman.
I think this was an intentional shot at people who just wanted the throne Spawn figure with a full cape so they're forced to buy a terrible Batman figure with it

I like the new cape. Really its not a bad set, its just wrong. At least in terms of the 90s artwork. Maybe this is more inline with the sequel they recently did. Id really have liked it if they captured the art work with classic designs. Batterang alt head would be perfection

I think Spawn would win, even though Batman has already fought him before. Spawn's powers have evolved so much since then.

I would say Spawn wins. I know Batman is the most intelligent by far, but Spawn' suit is just endless occult powers and there is not much Batman can do but talk him down

Judging from many mishaps of figures..i beginning to feel mr Todd is not running the show here. He is the front man alright, but final say does not seem to be his.
I too was excited about this two pack until I saw the Batman in it. I hate the open mouth on this figure. He looks like some old man who eats with his mouth open. Lol! But maybe in hand it is not so bad?!? I do, however, think the Spawn came out great! Not sure if I’m going to still get the pack or wait to see if I can get just the Spawn on the after market.

The sword was from the Spawn Resurrection story arc, I think it was called the God Sword? God gave it to him, I know that lol

Spawn wouldn't hold back, especially on the guns. Bruce would need to break out that Hellbat Armor, 🤔. Hellbat vs. Hellspawn.
Spawn is too overpowered, obviously he destroys Batman,but plot armor would prevent it. Spawn's sword is called "the sword of the spirit" in his whole Resurrection story arc, and Batman looks like a retooling of the White Knight Batman. All in all the set is fine, I'll probably still get it.

I had it preordered, then I cancelled it. I liked the Spawn figure, but I wasn’t thrilled with the Batman.

I hope on one of these Spawn releases they give us a more classic deco without that giant traffic cone boot. Spawn definitely outpowers Batman, but c'mon the guy defeated Superman before so Spawn doesn't stand a chance.

The Spawn is amazing. The only real flaws is the gauntlet stuff you pointed out. Also I wish it came the kickstarter sword instead. Or even both. The Batman figure...yeah we all know what's very wrong with this figure. That face and those forearms are unforgivable. The rest is really good though. Overall baffling why they wouldn't even attempt to match the art on the back. I also want to see someone put either the Hush, Three Jokers, or Rebirth/Battle Damaged heads on this body.
He says it's the same sculpt as the Throne Spawn but the skull and chains look soooo much better!
I ordered 2 of these. And they showed up and I realized how garbage they were - collector disappointment at the product and consumer anger at the money I spent. You have a great review - my only observation is that you could just state outright that it's a garbage release. 😂

I always find it interesting when different writers tackle these seemingly one sided conflict narratives but they’re usually pretty well balanced.
Still though, a character that literally destroyed and rebuilt the earth after battling all of heaven and hell vs some rich white guy… 😂
