Best breakdown of the new Land Cruiser yet!! Even those who attended the launch haven't put something out that is this in-depth. Bravo, thank you!
I'm wondering if this would be the base of the Toyota Stout???
Hey I appreciate that man!
No to the Stout.
Tundra is the truck form of the 300 series
Tacoma is the Truck form of the new 250 series
Stout will be the truck form on a Rav4
Obviously this isn’t how Toyota markets this stuff, but it’s as close of an explanation as you get get.
Great job bother! Your videos are awesome and provide information that nobody else is paying attention to. Keep going what you do, your channel is going to grow soon.
Thanks man, I certainly hope so!
Man, the production quality of your vids continues to be top notch. Very nice!
Thanks man I appreciate it very much!
This truck will kill Land Rovers, Jeeps, and any other adventure truck suv out there.
LC Prado is as tough off-roader as the full size LC, just without as many luxury options and high price tag. It is a proven platform sold in our region since decades (Middle East).
It's 95% identical to the 4runner
I wish they would have sold the 70 series here in the US since they started a long time ago
And the Prado is, in essence, no different, separate Land Cruiser at all. It is just one of the various models that the legendary 40 series branched out into when it was discontinued in the early 80's, just as did the current LC300, as a "Station Wagon". So, technically there can't be a "real" Land Cruiser and a "less real" one. The different models and versions of them are just aimed at addressing different market segments, and the different customer needs which have evolved over the years.
I got to play around with some 70 series trucks we confiscated in Iraq and man those things are freaking awesome, we took a seat heater out of a old Benz and put it on the truck to cook eggs and stuff lol we ended up giving the 2 trucks we had to a couple of local folks who helped us out
Great inAfrica too
This is a great competitor for the Wrangler. Especially for people like me, in my 40s, with kids, still want to go off road, but don’t want to have 4 cars in the garage. This is literally the first Toyota ever that I am interested in. Well done. Also, great content.
Thanks for watching! Rumor has it a 2 door version is coming soon as well. I will doing some content on that as I learn more!
@@IndependenceOverland I just sold my 23 JLUR for a 24 because of the rear air bags being added. When these come out, I’ll definitely go take a look. I think the GX may be a better option. 10 speed vs 8 and a TTV6 vs hybrid T4. Plus they’ll offer an “off road” version from the factory. Also, thanks for taking care of the trails man. I watched your hour and a half long video yesterday, and that was great content. Hard to make an entertaining video that long but you did a great job. The production value was great. Keep it up and be safe! I’m looking forward to your video!
Ive watched many videos of the new LC and this is BY FAR the best one!
Thank you!
Also.... Those built renderings and sketches are GORGEOUS!
Just found this video/channel and literally the best one that gives details about the land cruiser. Subbed 👍🏼
Awesome to hear, thanks man!
Thanks ... agree the quality of your content is stellar !
Thank you! 🙏
I wish they had made it complete by adding a front locker and that would have been perfect..ok a rolling down rear window...
I heard a front locker will be available for installation on the Tacoma so I would assume it could also be installed on the Land Cruiser and 4Runner.
For the price, it should have a front locker.
When i started watching the video you had 19.9K subscribers. I liked the video and it jumped to 20K. Congrats on the achievement and your vids are very well made.
That’s awesome! Thank you for watching!
3rd on the list at my dealership. Will be keeping my almost 5 year old alucab canopy camper for extended trips and the LC for shorter trips and getting to remote backpacking trail heads.
That’s bad ass!
Prado is part of the Land Cruiser family and its called Land Cruiser Prado here in Middle East...
This truck seems super cool!! I want one!
Since they went to the lift up talgate I wish they had adopted the 4Runner rear window. Everyone loves it. The popoout window feels so flimsy without a frame.
I am so glad I found your channel. Looking forward to binging on the contents. I am lucky to own 2 FJs, a 200, and a 79 Dual cab in East and South Africa.
Quite a collection! Thank you for checking out my channel my friend!
I’m on the wait list, can’t wait!!!
Team Land Cruiser!!!!
very nice video. thanks!
Good info! Thank you
Great review. Thank you!
Thanks for watching man!
Awesome video!
Great video, thanks a lot!
Thank you for checking it out!
The Australian Army buys many Landcruiser GX’s. Buy that spec.
Great looking new Land Cruiser
5 months later and still the best-informed and detailed video out there.
Thank you sir, I do plan to do another soon. I just wanted to wait until the media did their drive events so I could gather more information to share.
Awesome video Tyler!
I REALLY want to like the new LandCruiser. But it’s gonna take some time to grow on me. At this point, ain’t no way I’d give up my FJ for one. Probably never get rid of my FJ even when I do buy something else. I’m tall and not skinny so interior room is going to be a big factor too.
Just keep the FJ....why get rid of it when it's paid off...
Keeping my Fj too!
Outstanding summary and analysis...I have to say I was initially disappointed when I heard about the powertrain of the new LC, but it has grown on me and I think the aftermarket is going to explode with accessories for the new LC.
It definitely is. Based on the concept art aftermarket manufacturers are probably working on parts as we speak, assuming Toyota gave them the scans to do so.
you just answered every quation i had. the prado was a diesel, so i'd go find one before they're gone. thanks for the great video - and the answer to why did they make the land cruiser a X-Terra remake. one of my regrets was not getting a FJ. I wish i had, despite the 14 mpg
Awesome video.
It’d also be great to know the differential gear ratios! If you’re already poking around ;)
Definitely. I'm guessing they won't have a 4.10 gear ratio.
Great vid!
Thanks!
I remember last week when putz were complaining we can’t get the Prado. Well… putz… it’s here now. 😂
It's a fucking L A N D CRUISER
It doesn't need an off-road package. It IS an off-road package
Very well done video Tyler, best I’ve seen yet of the ‘24 LC! IF one is at Mountain West, please do a comprehensive review/walk around.
Sorry Scott I somehow missed your comment when you posted 2 months ago! I went down to the expo, and even hired a friend to work the camera for me (Natalia had other stuff going on) and they wouldn't let anyone near the thing. I am anticipating seeing them in person before too much longer, and I will really dive into what they have to offer! Thank you as always my friend!
After off-roading with 18'' wheels myself, for 90% of people it really isn't an impediment. Especially if you are running larger tires. Im sure they will leave the minority of customers to the aftermarket.
When you think of it a bit, it is not the wheel size, but the sidewall. The LC250 stock tire side wall is the same as the FJ cruiser stock sidewall.
Great video and a solid walk-through on the new Land Cruiser! I've got to admit that I had to let my thoughts on this new LC "marinate" for a few days, but at this point, I've got to say, I'm pretty excited and seriously considering replacing my 100 Series with one.
I'll buy your 100 series 😜😜
@@boistoys5451 stay tuned! 🤣
Sorry trying to catch up on comments! The LC looks incredible, I think it could be a solid option!
Personally I like it. I’ve been a Tacoma person most of my life. Had several. I’m thinking I’m gonna get a new Land Cruiser now instead of the Tacoma. 👍
Great video
Quality video
What a lot of people don’t realize that hate on hybrids is that Toyota hybrids are ultra reliable. Besides range and mpg benefits..
1) Reduced engine idle time, turbo, brake pad wear. Extend maintenance intervals. Every time you’re going downhill you’re making power.
2) Allows for efficient Dc-Dc inverters to charge your EcoFlow/Jackery batteries fast. Skip solar.
3) Eliminates starter/alternator (on other Toyota hybrids, not sure about the new one but likely).
4) If they had a PHEV you could cross a stream or silt and not worry about water/silt in the intake and cross in pure EV mode. A PHEV LC would also allow you to run AC/heat all night on battery power if sleeping inside. Run a small space heater on your RTT and leave your diesel heater at home.
That is a great looking steering wheel..
A straight 6 is a brilliant architecture.
Im surprised they didn't keep it
Boss… this was a remarkable breakdown…
This man is serious.. and the shits are dope
Thanks man!
Id much rather have this Land Cruiser Prado over the 200 or 300 series! 27 MPG!!!!!!!! Overlanding DREAM!!
You dream of a high stress i4? And a battery?
In the middle of nowhere?
Overlanders nightmare
@@randomuser6306 relax, it's a Toyota.
@@noctilucent7396I'd much rather have the 200 or 300 series Land Cruiser over this baby Prado. Yes, the combined mpg is great, but will surely significantly decrease with larger AT tires, gear, lift, etc. Not to mention, its a whole class down of a vehicle in terms of luxury and competition, particularly depending on the market.
G'Day Mate, first of all Great YT Channel... totally a Great 3rd view aspect view of the vehicles, we all don't have a lot of the money like all these other youtube channel POSERS!... SO THANKS FOR KEEPING IT REAL MATE! I'm a grass roots guy that has owned many of these Landcruisers in Australia. FOR THE LAST 45 YEARS... ( "I'M OLD 60+ yo.) BUT TO BE Honest, I never needed all the locking this and traction all that, you didn't rely on technology cause it wasn't around then, You would stop, take a gander and talked to your mates, and if you were really stuck you'd boil the Billy and make a cuppa tea and make plan... You picked a good line and you went for it... Traction boards were whatever you could find nearby in the scrub to help you get out of your situation...
"All Part Of The Adventure Mate" where you'd be covered in mud and who knows what and you would get to your destination (No GPS) and have a camp fire, dinner and a few libations and laugh about all the things that happened that day and chalk it up to experience... "CRIKEY I'M SOUNDING LIKE MY DAD" Living in the USA these days, i'm so glad that Toyota is taking this path. Although it's not my 1992 "Sooty" 6 cylinder straight line Turbo diesel with copious amounts of torque, she was a Plane Jane GXL which was bare bolt basic really with hard plastic and clothe seats. It took me and my wife and four kids everywhere in the outback of Australia... We are all still alive to talk about it! LOL..... MY Advice is to buy the 1958 Landcruiser and make it you own, modify and make it how you want to live and Travel it will get you further than you'll thought it would... You don't need all those whistles and Bell... Unless You want to be a Poser!
Just Buy the 1958, for 80% of the Folks out there it will get you t amazing places, away from the crowds o your next BID Adventure I Promise...
What an awesome comment! Thank you!
Thank you for another great vid! Question: would you share where you found that map behind you in this room?
I am not entirely sure, my wife got it for me for Christmas. I'll try to remember to ask her!
One thing I haven't seen much on is water fording / crossing abilities as it applies to the hybrid system. Those batteries in rear and the system under the hood how does it hold up and fare to typical overland activities as creek crossings for example?
Looks like the batteries are in the cargo area, which may be the reason for higher load height and lack of a third row.
AFAIK Teslas for example are very capable in water fording, the limit is the buoyancy but electrically speaking, no problem at all! I hope Toyota does the same!
Hoping Toyota dealerships are going to carry a lot of ARB and Old Man Emu accessories in the show room
Great video! I am dying to see a LC250 in person
Me too man! I’m really hoping it’s at Expo MW here in a few weeks. @toyota needs to get you to one so you can take some measurements for the people!
Best take on the Land Cruiser I’ve seen yet. Great points
Thank you!
i like the round headlights better!
Hi Tyler! With your FJ, what octane fuel do you use while overlanding?
I tend to use 91, even though I have read for elevations of 6k up it doesn't matter. Due to the lack of oxygen, supposedly it doesn't make a big difference but I run 91 anyway.
And just subbed ..great review
Thank you!
Amazing Car 😍🚘
How about rust prevention? Are the frames as before just painted and not treated?
Tyler, Jin Kim who designed the FJ Cruiser was the lead designer on the new Land Cruiser. Someone asked him at Cruiserfest what his favorite part of the new Land Cruiser design--he said "the outside mirrors!" Looks just like our FJ Cruiser!
That’s awesome! I love those little touches!
LC 200 we had was the top top spec only other markets had a base utilitarian models same with the LC300 there is a base model gx with a land cruiser is good for 25 yrs and 200,000 miles
Great video! CZcams algorithm brought me here.
I'm glad it did! Glad to have you!
Really Interesting you are mentioning the 112 inch wheelbase. Mercedes G Wagon has the same already in the 70s.
Hands down best review of the new LC “Prado”. I’m almost considering trading my V8 diesel 200 series in on one. We’ll done.
nice colorado map, where to get it ?
I was waiting around for the Tacoma PRO and Trailhunter pricing to come out, when that I was released, I headed down to the dealership to put a deposit in on the LC 250 and get in line for one of these.
Great analysis, thanks, as an Aussie I am delighted to see the new styling and options to modify, I can see one of these in my future, perhaps a few years out but by then they will be more affordable secondhand.
Give us the 70!
13:17 - Not confusing, they don’t want anyone to buy the LC250.
18 inch rims are fine if you go with a 35" tire
I've had my Subaru for 6 years... I really want a new car and the Land Cruiser is a dream for sure. My kit would top out at $70k with the "Land Cruiser" trim. Very excited for this... I wonder what my wife thinks?
Yeah, I think they made it to resemble a LC70s series, so that, most market are familiar with it as association.
You mentioned you didn’t understand why Toyota went with 18” wheels? Sheldon Brown lead engineer for Tacoma from Toyota stated on Tacoma, they had to use 18” rims on Trailhunter and TRD PRO because the larger disc brakes on those models required that size rim. He said on the entry grade trucks they will offer 17” rims because the rotors will be a smaller diameter. I’d assume it’s the same for the Land Cruiser.
I would much rather have larger disc brakes and a 18” rim than smaller discs on a smaller rim. The LC is standard with 32.6” tires, so chances are you can go larger and easily make up for any sidewall loss from the 18” rim.
Power brake will be producing a kit that will have more stopping power in a smaller package for those that want a 17” wheel.
That's the Prado🤣
That’s what the whole video was about…
Great review! Will be interesting to see what the new 4Runner has to offer. More power and better fuel economy is a win. Looks like 35's may fit without a lift, with a small lift the ground clearance issues won't be a problem. Looks like it is set up better for mods. Keeping our 5th gen 4Runner a few more years to figure which will be our best option. No hurry.
With more luxury the Land Cruiser is better imo. Which I’m waiting for
I like everything about this version of Land Cruiser except its hybrid system. Plain old v6 or v8 would be awesome. Now the only question is, when Land Cruiser starts at $55k, at what price will upcoming 4runner start at?
Why don't you like the hybrid? I don't know much about cars but I just got a tacoma and I love it but I wouldn't mind better gas mileage for sure
@@missourimongoose8858 Toyota does it is by raising the floor making the interior feel more cramped. For me personally, more likely the new Lexus GX will be the better option although I like the design of the new land cruiser better.
@@klaymoon1 oh damn, ya I'm 6 foot and the tacoma isn't exactly spacious but I'm figuring my truck has 42k on it so I've got a few years before replacement so by that time folks with more money than me have worked out the kinks lol
if the hybrid system is anywhere near as reliable and durable as what’s been going into the Prius (ie one of the most overworked vehicles in North America) then it’s going to be bombproof and eternal. Hopefully stuff like regen braking and electric assist means we’ll see a lower rate of wear and tear on the brakes and gas motor too.
Looks like we don't even get the 2.5 petrol down here in Aussie. we get the 2.8 diesel 4 cyl thats in the Hilux etc.
Do any of the trims have 2nd row seats that fold flat for dry camping??
They don’t fold flat, that will require something like @GooseGear
@@IndependenceOverland Awwww dang! I am looking for offroad vehicle that seats fold flat to sleep in. I keep getting referred back to the 4 runner. But,, they are the price of new used!
Unless you need the extra space, why not buy the 4Runner trail hinter?? Though rubber hitting the ground is betterbusing thinntiees ;)
do you know if the second row seats fold forward enough to fit some kind of air mattress in the back?
They do, check out my GX video. It will be similar to that, but its not totally flat.
Solid work.. I look forward to watching others such as this one. Thanks for sharing..
Thanks for checking it out!
Thank you Tyler, I have always liked your point of view and presentation. While a 70 series would be great I don't think it would sell enough units for Toyota to make back the investment of crash testing, and passing emission regulations. For these same reasons Toyota will not bring a diesel to the United States. I will be keeping a close eye on this new land cruiser to see how it actually looks and performs in typical overland attire.
Once again Thanks you Tyler
Hey, thank you man! I think these things are going to be solid, as Toyota certainly has a reputation to protect! I can’t wait to see them modified! Next years Overland Expos will be featuring some seriously cool stuff to look at!
I think new 4Runner looks great!
4runner will still be a different vehicle.
would be nice if they will brig back front live axle
Will this engine use a spin on oil filter? Thank you.
I will try to find out!
What’s the differential sizes?
Ifs may be suitable for a lot of scenarios but I’ll always wish Toyota made another solid axle trail orientated rig.
Land cruiser 300 and Land cruiser 250
It would blow everyone away if Toyota stuck a new 4Runner body on a 70 series chassis and made a Wrangler fighter.
Rear diff will probably be the 9.5 since the new Tacoma is getting a 9.5 in the hybrid model.
@@IndependenceOverland I figured that would probably be it. Or the 8.75. Think both the tacoma and this will still keep the front 8”?
It’s really sick but the mandatory hybrid is annoying. I don’t have a problem with hypbrids in general but those batteries don’t last forever and will be one of the main “wear” items on top of being super expensive. I have no problem with the 4cyl and think it’s cool but the hybrid part is off putting for me
I’m glad the GX has the v6 tt option but I’m sure the price difference will be sizeable
Hybrid has a 10 year warranty, and from what I understand it’s designed so individual cells can be replaced. So if part of the battery does go, at least it can be partially replaced. I’m one of the very few who are excited about these hybrids systems.
I wish it could tow more, but I definitely want one and I’m someone who generally dislikes SUVs
Honestly, even if it were rated to tow more it probably wouldn’t do it well. Quite a cool looking SUV! Can’t wait to see these out in the wild!
@@IndependenceOverland true, but it would be nice to be able to tow a car without stressing it as much
Are you coming to the overland expo in CO next week?
Yes sir, just for Saturday
@@IndependenceOverland come swing by Modvans booth. I would live to meet you!
It said in Toyota’s press release that the new Land Cruiser will have 17” brake rotors- which is why I believe they fitted it 18” wheels. Fitted with 245/75/18 tires you’ll have about 7.23inches of sidewall- about a 1/2” shy of 235/85/16 tire (benchmark of standard skinny tires).
It’d be very cool if it came on 225/95/16s, but with brakes that large it’s just not possible.
There is no room for the brake caliper with a 17" rotor and a 18" wheel.
Yeah.. that was my thought when I read that too. A 17" brake rotor also seems rather large- a Hellcat Challenger has a 15.4" brake rotor- which it needs too stop from going 150mph+. So, as one might reason, it's a heavy vehicle and needs a bigger rotor. Fair enough- the 2023 Tundra has 14" brake rotors... no way this LC is heavier than a Tundra. So I'm guessing either: (1) it has the same 14" rotors from Tundra or (2) Toyota has figured out a way to fit 18" wheels over 17" rotor/caliper (perhaps with a slight wheel offset and some taper inside the rim? ) We know the 2024 Tacoma PRO/ Trailhunter is 3" wider because of an 1.5" wheel offset, and they only come as hybrids like the new LC. If the new LC does have 17" brakes- it would be interesting to find out how they made that work. @@B4Uagain
You got me curious- so I watched an interview w/ the chief engineer for the Tacoma to see what he said about brakes. He said on the Hybrid model the Tacoma will get 17" Brakes. Since the LC shares its chassis with Tacoma I will assume that it is true.
Fast Forward to 11:47 czcams.com/video/Fh-s9O3EgRs/video.html
@@B4Uagain
Maybe someone will build 17” aftermarket wheels to fit this LC. Same as my Discovery 5 that can fit 19-20-21-22” wheels but Compomotive build 18” wheels that fit. 🤞🏼
@@LeoGS400same with the G63, alpha equipt makes a 18” wheel for this car
Nice video and nice endeavor to answer many questions without having all the data yet, thank you.
No front locker. It seems that 35s won’t fit. I’ll pass and I’ll stick to Wranglers.
Yeah I don’t believe this is intended to be a competitor with a Wrangler. Totally different vehicles.
No solid axles, when are they going to learn? Thing is, a solid axle vehicle can behave more than good enough on the tarmac but are so much better in the rough stuff and so much more easy to modify. Also a lot stronger. Some people thinks different but personaly I will never change my mind about that.
Yeah as far as flex, solid axle wins but I do believe some CV designs have been proven to be stronger surprisingly enough. But everyone likes what they like.
does it com with the center arm cool box? fridge?
I believe the higher trim does.
It reminds me of the discontinued Jeep Commander and the newer Bronco Sport. It just reminds me of any typical daily grocery getter. Maybe it will grow on me but for $55k, not likely.
Wonder how they get 8.7 ground clearance... Is it under the front cross member ?
The rear diff
I just want a LC 70 here in the states.
Toyota Prado usually comes with a 3rd raw seating ..
This is such an excellent video! It cuts through all the marketing hype, put out by Toyota and many of the automotive journalists, and focuses on the things that are really important for off-road ability in this vehicle.
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Show us a SWB !!!
Just a little additional information. The Lexus 570 was a Land Cruiser 200. So the fact Land Cruiser and GX 500 are the same is not new for our market. The Fj Cruiser shared the exact same chassis as the three door Prado; The Lexus GX was based on the four door Prado. The new Land Cruiser has 2400W inverter with its hybrid system, that is ground breaking for camping.
They need to release that modified version that's in the rendering.
@9:30, I know bigger wheels arent as good at off roading, but this does have alot of power and maybe the potential for handling issues at speed. You also NEED to have proper braking ability with this much power and likely you cant fit that inside of tiny 16 inch wheels.
Hey, fair point! This much power is going to be incredible!
