The federal reserve controls the rates in some ways, but most of the rates is controlled by the bond market; particularly by the 10 year yield.
Frankly many agencies should be politically independent.
The FED is private and has no government affiliation!!

The Fed doesn’t change rates. Rates are a leading indicator and the Fed raises or lowers after the market tells them what they have to do
Currency will only go so slow because another will go up. Example if USD goes down the EUR goes up. EUR will then do what they need to to not let EUR get to strong which causes theirs to go down and the USD to go up. Its how forex markets work.

Jerome Powell has done an excellent job at the Fed and is borderline brilliant. If politics get involved at the fed they run the risk of prolonging inflation , severe inflation long term and then the dominos will fall as America is the the last bastion of hope for the world economies given the over 300 trillion dollars of government debt floating around the world. Don’t even get started on China’s debt to gdp or Japan. Intrinsically world debt and U.S. debt can only mean severe inflation long term for the world and U.S. our debt to gdp in recent years has ballooned to nearly eighty percent elevation per year compared to starting five years ago. Trump’s win at all costs is dangerous to the U.S. macro economy. The only good he’s managed is to go after Nazi courts and law enforcement which in my opinion is the only reason he keeps winning primaries…..
