- My first Sale of the Century show--I'd forgotten that all that came after--winning the rest of the week, winning the semi-final & then the final Tournament -- would never have happened if one question at the end had gone differently.
Mort you did excellent on your first appearance. 😀👍
7:40 - OH! OH! OH!
7:45 - SO GOOD! SO GOOD! SO GOOD!
7:51 - OH! OH! OH!
Mort passing up the money each time was more than he will win on the game. How many times HAVE WE SEEN SOMEONE COME BACK 5 TIMES ONLY TO LOSE, He could have made the money back too, thousands passed up for a few
Okay, next time I'll do it your way
Thanks for sharing!
These early $otC episodes are nearly impossible to find! Faces on the Fame Game board! Swirly rainbow buzzer lights! Gold pins as consolation prizes! A rather crowded shopping area! Jim carrying a microphone! Canned crowd rawring while you decided to stay or go! I forgot so much about these early shows. This was a treat. Thank you for posting!
You’re welcome!
And no speed round at the end of the game. Such a disappointment.
The Stuff including the Stick Pins and Rainbow Buzzer Lights and other stuff eat your heart out Tony Barber!
Thanks for keeping these gems coming, Mort...nice of Jim to acknowledge Lee's previous stint on LVG, and am sure the producers were grateful that even on her first day, she didn't miss any cues or babble about her parking space!
LVG wss 10am eastern except in Philly. It aired at 11am on 29. Card Sharks was at noon eastern on NBC .
I liked this show.
Goodness, we almost would have never known the greatness which was Mort Kamins had Tom answered correctly at the end.
"Greatness" is a little much. I'll settle for pretty-goodness
Sale of the century
thank you for making this possible mort kamins
This is why I wanted to see the whole journey. It’s fascinating how it almost ended for Mort here. Thanks again Mort and I look forward to seeing more.
Wow, what a way to win the championship.
wow Lee was young then

5:47...I love how the contestant TRIES (and fails) to not look disappointed that he got the oven instead of the $25 money card. I had forgotten in the early years it was just the $25 money card up there. The show definitely improved over time. Fame Game got better as they ditched the celebrity faces (I wonder if they had to pay royalties on those?) and replaced it with numbers, love that they had a $10 money card for the first time, $15 for the 2nd and $25 for the third, and also how the Fame Game had the chaser lights for the player to try to land on those valuable money cards!
At least I tried😊
@@mortkamins4943 Mr. Kamins, you succeeded beyond anything on $ale! I watched all the videos you posted. Extremely well done! You definitely did more than try, by far!
And they also added the speed round later on which was incredibly exciting
Wow, I never saw this earlier version of the show without the speed round. They definitely made a LOT of improvements!
Incredible episode! Such a shame it was lost thirty-five years.
This was from Monday, March 14, 1983.
I gotta wonder...did Jim Perry not get along with Sally Julian?
Richard Hernandez I think they just wanted someone better as a hostess.
@@mitchellries256 Yeah sally was ditzy with a voice that should've been "eight inches deep" (the stereo on the premiere) and she also struggled with cue cards.
This has Got Be Lee Menning's First Episode.
It is. Good riddance.
Jim had the lyrics to "Sweet Caroline" mixed up. It should be "touching me, touching you" not "touching you, touching me".
Nobody's perfect in an imperfect world.
At least no one from WVU was in the audience.
Also Lee Menning's first show. If this aired in March, the airdate is Monday the 7th, 14th, 21st, or 28th in 1983.
March 14th (Sally Julian last appearance as co-host was on Friday, March 11th)
Jerry Shaw who directed 80s $ale early in its run was director of LV Gambit(and most all Heatter shows through 1987 High Rollers) and Bob Noah was producer of LV Gambit, as both worked for Heatter-Quigley in the 70s after leaving GT in the 60s and leaving Heatter to work for Grundy on $ale and later Scrabble
Mort, question for you. We've been watching Sale of the Century on CZcams for the last month, and it seems like every episode SOMEONE wins a metal detector (that has the same photo on it for 8 seasons...). Was it a high quality metal detector? It's the prize that won't go away fro the entire series!
I never saw the metal detector. Did I win one or buy one? If I did we either turned it down or gave it to charity. My guess, and it’s only a guess: it would not have been high quality.
@@mortkamins4943, the running joke with SotC was gold dumbbells and this metal detector with the SAME STOCK PHOTO with one of the models for eight years. For some reason, we see this on every episode and were wondering. We burned through the syndicated show during the quarantine, but then started on the other episodes, and low and behold - there's the metal detector!!!! I did think you won one in the first episode, but you may not have.
Mort should have gotten another crack at the Fame Game board for answering the tie breaking question correctly.
But did they announce Sally Julian's goodbye the Friday before?
You're supposed to know everything. You tell us.
Doubt it.
The second instant bargain was several years before it was known as karaoke
