- This week we have a go on the electric Niu U1 scooter, buzzing around the West Bund area of Shanghai. This is in fact my scooter, and costs around 750 USD new. I can get 30km out of the battery which takes 8 hours to charge and it can go up to 40kph. Enjoy!

Hello from Beijing. Just got one of those a few weeks ago. It's quite sweet.
Glad you like it! Mine is still going strong, over 7000km so far and no noticeable battery degredation. Bit worse in winter, but not much. I think I should take it in for a minor service soon - maybe new brake pads etc.
Nice review, how tall are you? i am 6 '2 '' i was wandering if it is too small? i am going to see the Niu M+ lite model not sure if that is even smaller
Im 6' and if I were any taller I wouldn't use this model - the M+ is a much better sized bike and I would recommend it.
1:10 not sure if you talk about the same scooter, but the weight of NIU U is actually 58 kg.
The same moped costs around €2000,- Euro in the Netherlands !!!

@@hkzhustler with very limited range and knowing that you have to buy a new battery every 3 to 5 years. But the range is the main problem for that money. If you want additional batteries the price almost doubles. You can buy a car for that kinda money.
NIU U1 ACCU 48V 21AH the battery alone costs € 699,95 how is that possible , you have the whole bike for $ 750
@@johnk4507 That's because he lives in China. The retailers here in Europe and other parts of the world have a monopoly. The fabricator's from those Chinese scooters only ship large quantities, so you can't buy a single scooter by yourself straight from the Chinese fabricator. It means that retailers in other parts of the world can ask any price they like. And that's just what they do. It's the same thing with clothing, solar panels, and almost everything else.
If I could buy that scooter for let's say 1000 Euro's I would do it straight away, but I am not going to pay just under 2K with the additional costs of a new battery every 3 to 5 years.
what's the on-the-go charging infrastructure like in china?
How do you lock the Niu? I've seen that it has an intelligent lock system but I haven't found much information about it?
My bike doesn't seem to be that intelligent - the key turns off the battery and the bike, and you can track its location from the app, which alerts you when the bike is moved.
Do you get flat tires more often? I used to stay in shanghai before and Ive always used a bicycle when I was there and I never had a flat tire since the roads there are really good. Im not sure now. Im moving back there next month and Im considering buying this but ive never rode a motorcycle or a scooter before.
I only had flat tires as I travel 40km a day on the bike, out into the suburbs. Downtown you will be fine, plenty of friends have had no punctures in three or four years. My first puncture was because I had my tire slashed at some traffic lights (not common), and the second and third time I rode over some construction debris or glass as I wasn't being particularly careful. You will be A-OK with riding this bike around Shanghai. Make sure to go to the official Niu stores, theres 3 or 4 around town.
@@electricelliotrichards okie. Where do you park yours and do you have like a lock? I used to lock my bike beside a rail.
You will usually have a safe parking spot where you live - a covered garage or underground parking. There you can lock it to something. I would suggest buying a lock before you get here - I use a Kryptonite lock which had worked well for me so far! Also, take the battery out at night - as that is the most valuable part (for thieves).

West Bund area -check it out, nice to drive along. Near to the Power Station of Art.

off topic , why do some chinese companies list them self in other country stock market and not there own?? even nio listed in us stock market
This is pure speculation, but there are probably a number of reasons. The first is that its quite hard to take money outside of the Chinese economy, so raising capital overseas (like NIO) allows them cash in an outside market enabling them to launch in that market.
Secondly, all these manufacturers want a slice of the global automotive pie outside of China, and by listing outside of China it gives them exposure to different investors and different rules and regulations. And thirdly, part of it is about exposure to the brand outside of China - people are more likely to buy a Chinese car if they has US stock market credentials (maybe)

Adding onto him, the market in China is not as developed as the US. The market is highly volatile so it is really easy to lose quickly.

Whats the price in china for n series and ngt?
N series isn't sold in Shanghai any more. But the price is still around 8k RMB elsewhere. NGT would be over 10kRMB.
Does anybody know how to make the small NIU Pro U go faster? Like trimming or software?
Upgrade your ESC. My friend swapped his ESC to an N series 122 ESC and it gives a max speed of around 60km/h. But you may want to upgrade the tires as well since the thin tires on U1 have a high chance of slipping on wet road.

You could try Aliexpress - I am sure a vendor would ship there. However the issue would be shipping the lithium batteries overseas, as I know that can be problematic. You could get in touch with them via niu.com and see if they have a distributor there?

I am not sure you can import them officially yet? You could try - they are for sale in Europe (Netherlands/Spain) so you could import from there if easier. However, its going to be expensive...try niu.com or taobao.com and see if anyone would be willing to import.
