Winternitz's villa hides a unique architecture and the tragic fate of its owners

- A Prague villa that reliably captivates not only with its unique architecture, but also with the turbulent fate of its owners. What is hidden Winternitz's villa? This is what you will find out in this part of our series Live Prague.
Winternitz's villa can be found in Na Cihlářce Street in Prague 5. It was built in 1932 by the family of the lawyer Josef Winternitz and was designed by none other than the famous architect Adolf Loos. He designed the villa together with Karl Lhota. A total of 8 people lived in the house - the Winternitz family of four, a governess, a cook, a housekeeper and a gardener.
However, the idyll did not last long - with the advent of World War II, the owners of the villa, as Jews, began to face persecution and in 1942 they had to leave their home. This was followed by transport to Terezín and then to Auschwitz. The male part of the family, i.e. Josef Winternitz and his son Petr, unfortunately did not survive the concentration camp... Meanwhile, the villa was confiscated and assigned to a Sudeten German sculptor. He needed more light for his work, so he let an extra window break through.
However, the villa did not undergo a more fundamental transformation during the war, so visitors can still admire the ingenious layout of the interiors (the so-called raumplan) by Adolf Loos.
And what was the further fate of the house and the Winternitz family, of which only Jenny Winternitz and her daughter Suzana survived the war? In order to get their home back, they had to pay inheritance tax. Jenny and Suzana, who were completely without funds after returning from the concentration camp, did take out a loan for her, but a millionaire's tax was introduced shortly after that - and they couldn't find the money for it. The villa was confiscated and until 1995 it housed a kindergarten.
Currently, the villa is once again owned by the Winternitz family. Thanks to the efforts of the descendants of the original owners, today the villa will take you back to the times of the First Republic. Pokud si chcete Winternitzovu vilu užít v co nejbližší atmosféře první republiky, doporučuji (a držím palce při shánění lístků) divadelní představení Dům v jabloních od divadla Na Pomezí. Představení se odehrává přímo v prostorách vily a je to neskutečný zážitek.
Zaujímavé informácie, vďaka za ne❤ Rôzne úrovne v dome sú bezne napr v Kanade, veľmi mi to pripomína tento štýl. Na tú dobu pokrokový dizajn🙂
Dane moc děkuji za tuto nádhernou ukázku. Je hezke vidět jake se drive stavěli chvosty. Tipoval jsem kuchaře a muze treba sluhu na všechno. Ale ze 4 z 8 bylo služebnictvo me vyrazilo dech a dotaz na Vas myslite ze dnesni bohatí maji vedle kuchaře,řidiče i vice služebnictva a zda bydli u nich b dome ci nekde mimo.na pozemku ?

Na prohlídce jsem byl, ale z hlediska praktičnosti mě vnitřní uspořádání vily pro dnešní dobu moc neoslovilo.

Osobně mne hodně zaujal příběh rodiny někdy po roce 1948. Rodina bydlela v paneláku (jestli si to dobře pamatuju) a před synem/vnukem nikdy o vile nemluvili. Vychovávala babička, matka po válce si nesla asi trauma a pro rodinu vydělávala. Pak přišlo překvápko.
