This video has so much re-inspired me to continue my purpose with training horses. Some days it’s just so hard to “go against the grain” so to speak with training in these “un-popularized” methods but I feel so strongly in being able to help horses feel more positive about their interactions with humans and just live more positive lives in general. Thank you for making this video and all of your content, it really helps me to feel so much less alone in the training that I do and want to continue doing ❤

I have a mare that reminds me of Blondie in many ways and watching the way you work with her but all the horses inspires me in so many ways. I got so emotional watching this video because what you say is true, its so easy to get stuck on the negative parts that you forget all the progress and improvement you made. Thank you for all your videos and sharing all that you do with us.

You turning Blondie and Zora out was hilarious - so many things 😂😂😂 - and honestly I think you beat yourself up too much! Blondie is an entirely different mare now than when she arrived, and you did that with her and for her. ❤. And the new head collar, it’s like buying your dog a new collar/ lead - all about the love ❤️ 🐴

Slow down! I tell myself a hundred times when I'm retraining my very forward OTT mare. It's a hard lesson to learn when the rest of our lives are spent at a manic pace. But isn't it nice when we do slow down and enjoy the moment 😊

I so related to this video, I have a mare a bit like Blondie, it's been a journey but I have decided I am not her owner I am her carer and we have a variety of things that we do together, these are things we both say yes to. Any new or different activities require slow and careful negotiation mostly on my part and may be rejected completely forevermore. She is sooo frustrating at times but OMG when we she says yes its some of the best riding I have ever had, but you just have to take the moments you get no more and no less, it's like a sunrise or a sunset. Bask in the glory and let it go.
Miri you need to lower your expectations even more, if only to save yourself so much frustration. I saw her cantering along relaxed with her head down and her neck stretched out and thought that was amazing! I would have called it a day there. It's probably more complicated for you being a competitive rider; I'm just a happy hacker, but I have an extremely sensitive horse that was shut down when I bought him, and I always joke that, he is more mareish than any of the long string of mares I have had before I got him. Some days he is braver than others, some days he prefers to turn left towards the pine forest and other days he prefers to turn right to the lake, and now that I have given him a voice, I cannot decide to ignore it when it suits me. I will take control if he does something dangerous, especially because I do not push him over his threshold, just in very small baby steps in order to make progress and give him more confidence, so I will draw the line when he overreacts without justification (he plays things in his head that are not actually happening, he is a master of anticipation lol). I am actually very grateful that he shows me very clearly what he is feeling in each moment, thereby making it easier for me to understand exactly what I have to do. It takes a lot of the guesswork out of it. I never drill him, so if he does a movement correctly the first time during ground work, I only ask for it once. One of the commonest failings of ours is that when the horse gives us what we want, we continue to ask for more. This causes a lot of resentment in horses. I am not saying this as criticism of you because I know you are trying your hardest and are amazing with your horses; it is just to save you as much frustration as possible. You are right, you probably will never come across another horse like her but she is there to teach you so much. It makes us sit back and think so much. We are all used to just striding up to a horse, grooming it, putting the tack on it and working it. My boy wants me to take the time and have the good manners to actually say hello to him before we do anything else. So it's hand out for a very slow and careful sniff before we go any further. My red mare is completely different. She is definitely a red mare, opinionated and sassy although she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She is a lot less sensitive in that respect. I have had a lot of horses that do not respond to methods that work with other horses, so I have had to come up with something new, which is great because it has increased the number of tools I have to teach horses, but none as expressive as this guy. I would just ask that you do the same as I do, which is in a moment of an apparent step backwards, to remember exactly how far they have come since we first got them. That will give you real perspective and encouragement. I feel you 🤗
Amazing to see your progress! Interesting to see what she is like when she says no. My mare was the EXACT same and in the same scenario. What I found that got rid of the issue is kind of similar to what you're doing, but raising my energy and intention first before physical asks. It acts like a little heads up about my leg and now my mare has no issue at all with going even after resting which she found most difficult. I followed Warwick Schiller's first rides videos which may be helpful to you as you are kind of doing what he does already! I'm not judging, as you are doing amazingly well with her, it is just an idea that has helped me change my mare's opinion massively.
Just a question, but do you know if she still has her wolf teeth in?

Take her out on a fun ride and open her up, she needs to learn how to handle different terrain and have a bit of fun away from the mundain of the manage. When they are out with the pull of other horses in front it gets their motor going and one needs to aid them less. She'd would be an incredible blood hound horse as she is quite nimble for a big mover.
With everything Blondie has taught you, would you revisit with Kenco?

Maybe you need to step back stop being busy for a month or two spend time with Blonde and just be with her in her moments. Take on less clients book less appointments be in the moment more.

You're amazing, transitioning from the horse/BHS/old school training I had, to using R+, took a lot of time. But it was very worth it in the long run, every human makes mistakes, you're being too hard on yourself. You genuinely are doing the best you can. I recommended the Hannah Weston; Connection Training book, to you on Instagram, a while ago, not sure if you ever got it, but, it definitely helped me a LOT.
Also - have you noticed Blondie responds to the changes in your voice tone, more sensitively than an average horse? I got so used to using the working Labrador, "I mean it" tone, with my Labs, and horse's that I didn't notice, until someone commented on it during an EFL session - I wasn't being mean, or strict, but my voice tone changed. Now, I am more self aware, and cognisant of the significance. Just an observation, I think you're doing such a fantastic job with her. (I still vary my tone if needed btw, it's crazy how it can vary depending on what's on your mind, whom or whose around)
She's a horse of a lifetime, a teacher, that is going to enable you to help so many more horses! Xx
