With all due respects to the great filmmaker on this subject(My opinion is just for the child’s mental health, but that’s the pretext for the later part of movie),With now a matured man than when I saw this movie first, the dialogues could be little more inclusive for the child to be associated with the family than the actual dialogs which kind of distanced the child from the whole family as a unit..
For example, if dad said, ‘ I wanted to confess a fact about you ..Mom and I , adopted you , my dear child.. ‘ .. for the question of her brother, ‘we tried to adopt them as well but before that they were born to us .. ha ha.. What’s in there you all are our children.. We just wanted to tell you this little fact on your birth ,when you grow to be a big girl like you are today and before you hear it from others..’ .. it’s just my perception..
I think it was great writing ! Madhavan's character is like that - he is a hard hitting writer, one who does not mince his words ! Which makes him one of the last options to give emotionally troubling news !
( They way he wrote his sister in his stories as we can see earlier in the video, even the way he confesses his love to Simran in the flashback, how he talks with terrorists, etc. all highlight this )
I am not saying he is hard hearted or wrong - he has immense compassion (why he married Simran to adopt the child in the first place), helps others (even though berates and does bully them at times) - he is just not nuanced!
Ideally this should have been done by Mother or may be along with Madhavan - probably 1-2 weeks after her birthday celebrations
