The thing about what made Miley's transition so great was that it wasn't announced.. she just did it.
Exactly. It wasn't a 'hey I'm planning my change' it was more of she felt confined to this 'good girl' Disney persona and wanted to express what she loved and wanted. It's why I love the Black Mirror episode she did and it fit her so well, showing her struggle against the industry. JoJo looks like it was straight up manufactured BY the industry like 'Oh the kids like change stories so we're gonna spice you up and make it marketable'. It's not genuine and people see it so easily.
Drugs played a big part in that one.
Her being compared to Miley makes no sense to me. Nothing alike.
Miley in 2013 was not just an aesthetic change it was a life altering time for her. She didn’t change for her music her music changed because of who she was at the time.
With Miley it felt like she finaly is showing her true self. Like she was always this girl and now we can finally see who she is , since she is adult and no longer under Disney. While with Jojo all seems like marketing.
This whole ass situation is just a deflection of the fact she contributed to a toxic work environment and she has continually defended known predators

To be clear, Brith Smith didn't release her version before Jojo's on purpose, someone found it and posted brit's version from years ago and it blew up. Brit originally was pitched the song and sang it but didn't go with it, only officially releasing it after Jojo released hers which could count as a cover.
Brit didn't sell it to her, brit didn't release her version as soon as Jojo teased hers as a sort of "take backsies", people just found stuff and posted it.

Thank you! I was really frustrated how they painted the situation and they started to fact check but then stopped. And Brit has been very humble and has multiple times explained it's not her song, she didn't write it. The company she was working with had her record it and then scrapped it (stupidly). Kind of tired of how many are making it like she's going and trying to take JoJo down

Ethan got the whole story wrong. Brit Smith did not write the song or even sell it to JoJo. She recorded it as a demo and had a music video produced but then the studio scrapped it. Brit has never said anything negative about JoJo or even the song. I think the outlash on JoJo is the fact she would say in interviews how she worked on the song for two years with producers when really only one word was changed. The song itself was basically the same with just the background music a bit more modern. And when people came out against JoJo and claiming to do it on Brit's behalf, Brit released a video saying she had no issue at all with JoJo and reiterated she did not own or write the song. So glad the chat corrected them on the situation

I'm gay- and whilst there is music that has been associated with the gay scene traditionally - like disco and Hi-NRG back in the day- and while artists such as Madonna and Kylie Minogue are referred to as gay icons- I don't really think there's anything specifically "gay pop". I don't think I am considered part of Jojo Siwa's target audience (48yr old male me- and she ain't my cup of tea, though taste in music needn't be dictated by someone's age), I just think she's a 20yr old who maybe is just flapping her gums to be a little provocative without really thinking things through before she says them. But hey- whilst I wasn't a pop star when I was her age, I'm certain that I said a lot of dumb sh*t at the time just without the whole world watching 🙅♂️ I think folks should maybe ease up on her a little. But someone please take her aside and have a quiet word with her about that car with her face plastered all over it 🙄🤣

@sherlockholmes891 In my opinion I just don't think any music can really be classified as "gay pop"- and in regards to all of the artists you mentioned: whilst they are all either gay or have a gay following, their music has mainstream success worldwide so to label them as "gay pop" isn't really accurate I reckon. Besides, a genre of music describes a sound or style music: pop, jazz, rock, country, gospel... if we start using the term "gay pop" then we could attach the word "gay" as a prefix to any genre: Lady Gaga as "gay EDM", Lil Nas X as "gay RnB", Freddie Mercury as "gay rock"....

You said it appeals to people worldwide… that includes lgbt people worldwide :) Queen is rock but it is also pop music cuz things can fit into multiple genres. @@sherlockholmes891 I think we should leave that decision up to the creators themselves, I know people in other fields often find it demeaning and dismissive to categorize their work by their sexuality (you don't call paintings by gay artists "gay paintings" or cars fixed by gay mechanics "gay cars") if an individual artist wishes to describe their music that way then sure but segregating music arbitrarily based on sexuality is just silly. Of course, there is music by gay creators that does distinctly fit into its' own genre, which is certainly the way that many people use the term "gay pop" but to describe any popular music written or performed by a gay artist as "gay pop" is more than a little bit demeaning to those queer artists who may not be interested in their sexuality being a defining feature of the art they create.
I could have sworn the "source" was JoJo herself at her "album launch listening party" - the one where she was lipsyncing and partially screeching into the mic on a small stage. I could have sworn she SAID she wrote the song about her ex. The only place I've seen any jojo content is on H3 and DWKT, so that clip must have been covered on one of these channels 🤔

To be fair, it's not just about what she said it's about what she didn't say too. She said in a interview that she started writing her own music and couldn't wait to show it to everyone. THEN she released those songs, without saying that she DIDN'T write them or create them. That's the issue, if she wanted to have no scandals, she should have said that these are not the songs she wrote. Simple as that. Jojo is truly following Hollywood's path of having controversy one after another, but in her case people don't support her and won't come back to her after that. This whole 'all publicity is good one' doesn't work for the new generations anymore. So her best chance of getting on the new gen's side again is for her to just apologize for misleading everyone. As we've seen how fast they forgive pred*tors, after a silly little apology.
