    Very nice! I made one out of an old baseball bat that was broken during a game. I used it A LOT to drive in handles on other tools. It broke at the beginning of this year so its time to make a new one. I like copper so I might incorporate some copper in it.

    Really nice set of mallets. The wood was definitely the star of the show.

    The first & second mallets are to work with, the third one is a wall hanger to show off! 😆😆😆 Like them all.

  • @philipdavison4066sawdust

    Wow that's amazing beautiful all three are well made.
    For me the third was the best.
    What are the dimensions for the heads mate, i live across the pond in the east of England and I'd like to copy the third mallet for my own use.
    Many thanks Keith

    @TheReformationWoodshop I noticed you used a round mallet to knock on wood...I keep seeing them...I would think round makes it easier to miss or mark the wood. What is the difference between what you made and what you used? What is your preference for hardwood mallets? What about balance? Is there a formula for head vs. Handle in weight/size?

    Thank god that you had supervision to finish the third mallet. I mean, anything could have happened! Seriously cute moment, and I guess the future of the channel is secure.👍😂

    Glad to see I'm not the only one who turns a compact router upside down and uses like that.
    Free tip, don't use to round over the edges on a bunch of Lincoln logs all at once. So many free hand routes, all it takes is a split second to take a decent chunk out of a finger tip.
    I got lucky and it only nipped some skin off and it grew back.
    Weirdest thing was I felt it happen, looked at it for several seconds as it didn't hurt and wasn't bleeding at all.... And then it started. Very odd! Lol

    Looks great! I think I like the second one the most. You're not worried that the wedges wouldn't mess with the glue?

    • @TheReformationWoodshop
      @TheReformationWoodshop  Před rokem

      Nah, I coated everything pretty thoroughly and the pressure of the wedge plus the glue should hold forever.

  • @sunofsotep8265

    I noticed you didn't make a tenon to insert into the head so that it has "shoulders" to sit on. Wondering how well that would hold up.

    • @TheReformationWoodshop
      @TheReformationWoodshop  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That’s definitely a stronger method but the mallets I’ve made in the past without it have held up great. 👍🏻

    on the third mallet the grain of the handle looks like it'll break right off with the first heavy swing you do. only my opinion with years of experience in woodworking.

    • @TheReformationWoodshop
      @TheReformationWoodshop  Před rokem +1

      You’re correct and should be proud of that eye for detail but off camera I stabilized it by layering in resin until it was firm and then sanded it smooth. It might still break but it’s definitely stronger than it would’ve been. 👍🏻
