Addy immediate reflex to call him honey is both sad and adorable. My opinion is that Derek doesn’t like to not be in control. Addie is a strong and independent woman who doesn’t need a man to hold her up. Mer is beautiful and strong, but Derek liked being in charge, being her rock. I think that’s why he and Addie grew apart, because he knew that Addie could stand on her own, and he couldn’t stand it. I love Derek, I do, but I have to admit that he’s got a heck of a god complex.
I love Eddie truly but I don't think Derek needed a psychoanalysis he just fell out of love because she hurt him and he really tried to make their marriage work but he just stopped loving her and fell in love with another deeply Everyone wants to paint Derek as bad person but honestly he’s just human who is flawed and tries his best with what he cam and what he’s aware of ، he never hated Addie for being a strong women and he never loved mer bc she was lesser than, he just fell out of love and in love with another … as for the power dynamics in a relationship, you could never make to be 100 percent equal , one is always gonna be better than the other and the trick is to rely on each other’s strengths , and that was the case with both of his relationship

And he does the exact same thing to Meredith when Meredith isn’t centering her entire existence around him, he used the nurse Rose to make Meredith jealous when they were broken up because she dared to be a whole person without him. And then when he went off to Washington to work for the president he had a short affair with another woman because she looked at him like he was a god. Throughout the series he’s shown to have a lot of resentment toward Meredith when she starts to grow her career and become more independent, constantly comparing himself to her. This person has it spot on.
