No need to flood your level with water any-more! With this short tutorial I will show you how to add a body of water (or space) anywhere you want without the need for water.
P.S The Thermometer is high because of the custom photos not because of any of the logic.

Thank you so much! My son has been building his own stuff a lot more lately and recently asked how to "build a lake" but I've never really played this game so I was completely stumped! This video actually helped A LOT, thanks again!! 👍😁👍

I think it's cheaper to just make it yourself. Makes it customizable too.
I really love your tutorials. I don't get much chance to play around with LBP3 like I did with LBP2 so it's awesome that you have simplified tutorials for everything, the speed sensors look awesome and the animation tweaker. Please keep putting up tutorials and I will watch them all! And hopefully I'll start making some tutorials of my own once I get used to LBP3 :)

Blimey it is far more complex than I realised, but I need to learn (or try to) to make much better levels.
Funny how all these videos came back to help me understand game design much easier. I wish this game was on PC so it could have lived longer.

Smythee2 It's in the goodies bag in the EFFECTS section on the Materials Page. It's only exists in LBP3.

Anyone that doesn't have the water material (it's an effect) he's using, it's in the Zigurat. Go to the Go Loco level, (get the hook hat and back out, if you don't already have it then go back to the area where Go Loco is) and then hop on the rail to the left of it and ride it to the right and the water effect will be there.

very cool tutorial and easy to modify it. I had 2 problems that were fixed easily. If you stayed on top of the water and had left stick up it looked messy (Jumping in and out 5 times per second) something like that. So I did when you get out of water you get launched up. Second is what I added,when you press x you go faster.
First things first this tutorial is amazing! Danx87. Second thing is this level inspired me of an idea but me being absolutely horrible at logics can't do anything about it. My idea is more of a request and I'll give you an example, sackbots you can make them do anything like give them the power of flight or the power to shoot a deadly beam from their hand to kill an enemy or destroy an obstacle so is it possible for you to make a video tutorial on giving those powers to a sackboy instead of sackbot for your levels that would be awesome!!
Aleem Alli :D Glad you enjoy the Tutorials! And yes you can actually save a sackbot and make it a custom sackboy to be used in your levels. just go in the global settings (character tab) and save sackbot in there. then emit from entrance / spawn point. Is that what you were asking for? or were you asking for a tutorial on giving sackbots powers?

I made a drown chip that plays the tension music starting at the ten second mark; then you have ten seconds left before you drown.

Is there any way to make this work for Oddsock & Swoop? They keep automatically swimming down for some reason.
+JGamezOfElzam not sure as ive never tried, but I would have thought it would just be a simple change of animation & possibly change in advanced mover settings
yeah I'm not sure /8^/ I attached Oddsock and Swoop's animations to their corresponding speed directions, just like Sackboy's, but it makes them constantly swim down for some reason. Maybe it's something with the mover or their special abilities?

I don't understand why making water pools isn't already in the game, like how you can turn materials into gas you should be able to make materials a pool of water without hard logic

Go to the earth icon in the top right corner and go to the water icon and move it up. It took me a while it find it when I first started.

I am used to Lbp2... there was no broadcastchip.
How would this broadcastchip behave when two ore more players are in the same level?
Are they all swimming even if one is in the water... or is it behaving seperatly for every player?

+Demondevilmon no each sackboy/girl get one each & (with this tutorial) only if in the water. the broadcast microchip is kinda a template, each player has there own and it will operate independently.

I just watched your "Player Specific Logic" and i am a bit confused.
I think i still don't get the broadcastmicrochip. How can u seperate the players from each other... u are only detecting markercolors? Or does the broadcast micro chip converts markercolor into playercolor?

Demondevilmon its rather complex. each player is given the same microchip, but when 1 player takes the blue tag, it changes everyone else's into the next tag... so eventually each will have there own logic within the same microchip. a few errors can occur when players die though. To be honest its worth playing around with your broadcast microchips to see what they can do.

Danny Mann its surprising how many times people ask for help sorting something and never let me know how they got on... I just assume it sorted the problem but they couldnt be bothered to tell me lol

+alvin broussard It could be down to a bugged impact sensor, Check that your Blue Tag labled water (impact sensor) is actually working as it sounds like its either not connected properly or its set to invert or it is bugged.
This is probably easily solved and I'm just not catching it, but how would you make it so that objects in another part of your level won't be affected by the rise and fall of water levels?
They're using the water block material and not the water setting from the tools bag.
I'm swimming everywhere instead of just the water, is there a way to fix that?
The space isnt the same as water
When I go into the space I go a bit down but that doesn’t make any sense because there is no gravity

March 28th 2024....I tried this and my character is swimming full time as soon as I put it in play mode...
Make sure the impact sensor is set to "Inverted: off". Also make sure that wires are connected to all the animation tweakers.
Every time I place water down I go right through it even if I contain it and fill an area up with it

Couldn't you put the broadcaster on the water and set it to "all in contact"?
Yes but then it’d take more space up since you have to copy the broadcast microchip with it instead of just a tag.

Can you tell me the Logic I would need to make the Player move forward 1 Layer when swimming underwater and pressing R2 and then move backward 1 Layer when swimming underwater and pressing L2? I tried to do it but I keep getting something wrong...
+JGamezOfElzam in/out mover & L2 & R2 out puts. set up the in/out mover to move in once for one and move out once for the other (not advanced in/out mover)

For some reason, gravity is still a heavy factor when I set all this up. I've watched the video over and over making sure I did everything right, but for some reason I can't hover in place. Gravity keeps pulling me down like normal.

@@ChickenBruce It's in the Ziggurat Grand Hall level hub. You have to go up the pipe, past the Loco Roco level link and go down the bendy rail.

It is indeed. You would have to make a custom sackboy with two forms. each form with a different costume. Then have a water sensor or tag sensor (for space) in the custom sackboy to change its form when active and change back when not active.

I'm trying your swimming mechanic out on PS4 but it keeps getting me stuck in the water to where I can't move. Also gravity happens as I can't seem to swim up, only sink. I would like to know if I'm doing something wrong - I've been trying this for the 13th time now and I'd like to say that I have followed each step precisely. Does the material surrounding it effect it in any way. Also you're awesome!

I followed this up until the point where you use the Character Animation Tweaker; on my one, for some reason there is the subheading 'Animation' but nothing beneath it, it just goes straight to behaviour. Any ideas on why this is/how to get the animations?
