Awesome video, it answered all my questions and concerns about the rotations. I was sinking them some of the time and then others just clanging off all over the places, which was discouraging. My only question: when I was throwing them for the full rotation, it felt like the knife wasn't going that fast through the air... Do you gain speed of throw as you get better, or do I need to be throwing faster as a beginner?

so something to help you miss less will be to learn to move less- as a beginner or learning- plant your front foot and your back foot, you can rock backwards like you do but your heel should never leave the ground that way your distance does not change. Knife throwing is a game of inches as It only takes an inch to miss. Start with your grip, it has to be the same ever time, and for rotational keeping the knife blade perpendicular with your target will increase your accuracy as the knife will spin the same every time. How to find your distance is not as hard as you may think, as a general rule you will be somewhere behind a meter mark for each distance but starting out in front of that mark is ok and behind it is more than ok. For competitions it starts out like this- in america euro throws are different for some events- you start your half spin from 2 meters or behind and then move back 1 meter for each next rotation. 1 spin 3m, 1-1/2 4m, 2 spin 5m, 2-1/2 6m, 3 spin 7m and so on and so forth. Behind a meter mark is fine and starting out in front of it is fine also because once you increase your muscle memory your distance will change. remember only move 1 inch at a time either forward or back to change your distance if it hits handle down move back if it hits handle up move up-forward.
I teach people to keep it simple and follow 3 steps, and once you complete a step you do not think about it anymore.
    1. distance. This is the most critical word in a throwers vocabulary because every thing can change your distance! Your stance, your release, your grip, your balance, your shoulder turn.
Your distance needs to be the same every time to repeat the throw accurately, one step forward moves your mark-distance- and you miss more. changing your grip you change your distance, changing your shoulder turn, changing your release- which you did mention which is great!- not felling balanced and natural in stance- you mentioned stance also which is good.
    2. balance. you have to feel not only comfortable but not off balance after you throw. If you throw right handed and throw right foot back do not put your back foot behind your front foot, it needs to be out away from your body so you are not throwing "around your body." If you throw right handed left foot forward make sure you are throwing in a straight line- elbow up then elbow down in a straight line, how you do that needs to feel balanced and like a natural movement. If you throw left handed just reverse the idea.
    3. grip and throw. I put these together because your grip is part of the throw - more than the others as far as the last thing you should check before starting your throwing motion. -
Your grip should be the same every time regardless of the type of grip, pinch or full hand- bouquet, hammer and hand shake- and do not change it until you miss or hit with at least 3 in a row. You have to find the grip that works best for you, it is a personal preference just like foot forward or back matching your throwing hand.
Now throw by bringing your arm and elbow up and back not just back, the elbow needs to follow your arm and hand up and back. Pick your point of reference, some people like to bring elbow perpendicular, some like to never break that plane always keeping their elbow below their shoulder in a perpendicular line, this is up to personal preference again and then your release- your explanation was perfect as far as that goes!
That sound we call the thunk in the throwing world and it is addicting and will far out way the clang of the knife hitting the ground once you increase your accuracy.
This is all for rotational throwing, there are many other ways of throwing as well, instinctive half spin- military half spin some call it- and instinctive full spin and no spin and they all have many methods.
Good luck and keep throwing it is one of the best sports out there because it is inexpensive and everyone who competes enjoys helping new throwers! you can send me a message if you have any questions.
    JW
