If you're a longboarding enthusiast looking to take your carving and diving experience to the next level, you'll want to pay attention to your setup. In this article, I'll be sharing some setup tips that can help you achieve the best riding experience based on your weight and make your longboard trucks carve and dive when you pump over long distances. Specifically, we'll be looking at the Sector 9 Gullwing Sidewinder Trucks, which are known for their double kingpin design that allows for maximum lean and turn.
When it comes to setting up your Gullwing Sidewinder Trucks, it's important to find the right balance between looseness and resistance. You want your trucks to be loose enough to turn easily, but not so loose that you feel like you're riding on jelly. The key to achieving this balance is in your bushings.
Bushings are a crucial component of your truck setup, and choosing the right Durometer bushing for your weight is essential to getting the most out of your Gullwing Sidewinder Trucks. Durometer is a measurement of the hardness of the bushing, and it's indicated by a number followed by the letter A. For example, 78A is a softer bushing than 98A.
To determine the correct Durometer bushing for your weight, you'll need to refer to a bushing chart. These charts typically list a range of weights and the corresponding Durometer bushings. For example, if you weigh between 120-180 lbs, a bushing with a Durometer of 85-92A might be appropriate.
Once you've selected your bushings, it's time to install them. Make sure to remove the old bushings and clean the truck baseplate before installing the new ones. You'll also want to use a bushing washer on both sides of the bushing to ensure a secure fit.
After installing your bushings, it's time to fine-tune your truck tightness. To achieve the best carve and dive feel, you'll want to start by loosening your trucks until they're just tight enough to keep you stable while riding. From there, gradually tighten them until you reach a point where they offer enough resistance to give you a solid feel as you lean into your turns.
It's important not to over-tighten your Gullwing Sidewinder Trucks, as this can restrict your movement and potentially damage your bushings over time. As you tighten your trucks, make sure to check that the lock nut is appropriately engaging with the thread to avoid any potential loosening.
Overall, finding the right setup for your Gullwing Sidewinder Trucks takes some trial and error. But with the right Durometer bushings and a careful approach to tightening, you can achieve a ride that's smooth, stable, and optimized for carving and diving. So get out there, experiment with your setup, and enjoy the ride!

Yeeesss, I did this today Thank God. I ride soft on the bottom and and extra soft on the top (it the board is upside down). They work perfect together and bend equally

Thanks for the video, it was very helpful! I'm curious what your weight is, I know that affects the ride of your board and which bushings you should get.

Also im not convincer the bottom should not be soft and the top harder (my skin will report back in an hour

Yea let me know too, I’m planning to get that $20 dime bag set but afraid they’re not gonna have soft enough ones, I plan on using them with my carver cx too and that’s a surf skate that probably needs less than 88A bushing

@@BluLemon hello when I changed to 95 roadside 98 boardside I thought it would be stiff , but its close to perfect , no loss of turn possibly more because you dont need to over compress the bushings as with the original 89a s

Thanks for your very helpful videos. I've gotten a Sector 9 Shoots with the Sidewinder trucks, with the standard bushings I suppose. Never having customized my bushings I hoped to only have to play with how tight the trucks are but I've noticed that after half a turn to a turn already the bolts are flush with the end of their rods. Does this mean I shouldn't go further and would need to play with bushings instead? Also, on a Shoots, do you think it's ok to have a rather loose back truck or might it be dangerous? (On top of maneuverability, I'm trying to get some surfskate pumping movement, with weight on the back foot).

      @loadofd  Před 2 lety +2

so you should only tighten trucks to the point where the bushings/washers are not jiggling around and then give half a turn to "lock" everything in place. if you over tighten trucks you will loose the full turning potential and also the ride will feel off. rather play with the bushings.
the shoots is similar to the board I ride in the video so loose trucks will be fine, but I suggest that your back truck has slightly harder bushings than the front truck this will give you the best surf skate feeling as you will turn more from the front.
the pump on the shoots will be different than on a surf skate because the dimensions and truck geometry is quite different

Hello I put 95 doh doh boardside with stock roadside , still too loose next day 98 boardside 95 roadside now its great I weigh 69 kilos , stiffer bushings boardside is better

Nice, yeah back truck I ride 95/95 and front 95/89. whatever feels comfortable, I find sidewinders feel best when they as soft as you can ride while still comfortable, helps with sharp turns etc

I have a sector nine shoots longboard with a Goldwing sidewinder trucks so the stock bushings are very hard the fun factor. It’s just not there. yes I am experimenting with softer bushings almost can turn the sport into a surf skate or very flowing. Kind of like a snowboard but be very careful if you pick up speed down a hill or choose to do something like that I can get very wobbly and out of control. I wouldn’t recommend doing that not on these trucks and not at my age either. Wanna be safe
