Nursing school knows how to perfectly stress me out 😅
nursing school is like...we must NEVER give them a break.
As someone who has graduated from nursing school, I found carrying around a little pocket book and writing down medications, procedures and anything else I didn’t understand was incredibly helpful. It’s come in handy now as a RN.
I’ve come to realize that in nursing school even when you’re ahead you never stop feeling behind 😭
you know, this is very very accurate.
I guess it's something that happens in all the medical or medical-related fields: I'm a third year biomedical engineer and it's the same...I don't know if we should laugh or cry XD Also, you always discover some topics you really need to study, wheather they are officially taught to you or not.
There is ALWAYS something you can be working on 🥴
I take nursing school one day at a time . I am a mother of 2 kids and I have learned the hard way that if I start to focus on everything at once my anxiety kicks in at 1000% and my mental health goes out the window . I have 8 months to go for my BSN and this has been one of the hardest things to accomplish but keeping positive thoughts and asking god to help me has gotten me to this very point .
Loveee getting new school supplies it’s the best feeling 😂 especially in nursing school you need all the motivation you can get!

I can totally relate to feeling behind when your actually ahead. I am a perfectionist when it comes to college because it is too expensive for me to be wasting my time. I want to absorb everything related to Nursing or health that I learn.

So chill yet exciting cause starting a new semester always is (not so much when it’s time to study haha) anyway, I have those pastel markers from last year and they are so good. I'm literally finishing up my first week of break post summer nursing school and I still find myself feeling behind and not wanting to relax. So I've definitely revisited some Pharm lectures and Kaplan quizzes lol.
It may sound weird but I stock up on candles before school. I do a quick clean and light a candle before I study so I can be completely relaxed and motivated - definitely worth a try.

My school used ATI, but I took the Kaplan review course before my NCLEX and it was a life saver! Highly recommend when it's NCLEX time.

Think of it this way with the expensive pens you like: you need something reliable because one of the worst things is to be taking notes in a fast paced class only to have your pen fail. And if you don't have to think about your pen while using is, that's less stress. Because when you're stressed, even a pen being glitchy can tip you over into overstressed. It's an investment. Yes, I'm good at rationalizing stationary, office, and school supplies purchases because I love it 😅
Are you finding it easier to get organized now that you have a full desk to use again? Or does that not make a difference to you?
And my favorite assignment was research papers. I always ended up learning something interesting that I wasn't even looking for and I got ideas for other paper topics that way sometimes. I just loved the whole research process and weeding out the not so great articles in the process.
A dying pen had me crying one day trying to take notes for an upcoming exam 😂 I had to walk away on that one.

My favourite thing my CLN on clinicals has told me to help remember terminology and drugs is get an address book and put everything you don't know in there. That way you've got a pocket dictionary that'll help you when you can't remember something but it's super easy for you to whip it out and look it up.

Just thought I would share bc I love school supplies, THE BEST pens I’ve ever found (for nursing, school, work, etc.) are the Zebra Z-Grips. You can get a giant multi pack at Costco for SO CHEAP. The hospital I did clinical at stocked them on every unit and they truly are the best. Good luck during your second term Kiara!

A favourite way I like to ask about urination and defecating are:
“How are the water works?” “What about back passage/number 2’s?” Mind you this is in Australia and sometimes depending on patient I will actually say “how’s your poo? Any changes etc” if you say it with confidence people will generally accept it with confidence too

My favourite type of homework assignment has to be quizzes and also application based exercises. I love applying what I’ve just learned to confirm I learned it correctly (if that makes sense 😅)
When I was in college I always loved to do the virtual math assignments! Like stuff made by Pearson or MyOpenMath. I’m not sure why- I wasn’t a math major- but I always enjoyed math!

In my clinical notebook, i also put funny things that happened or quotes that are insane or inappropriately funny a patient said. It’s a good memory to keep

So far my favorite assignment has been fieldwork. I'm majoring in history and folklore, and for folklore one of the things I've done is conduct interviews with people which I really enjoy. Then I compiled them and provided my own analysis.
Wow what an interesting assignment! I love that because you are truly having a meaningful experience rather then just trying to get through busy work!
In nursing school i used the massive windows in my condo as a whiteboard. It was awesome!

Me being stressed already about school that starts on the 9th but can't do any getting ahead because noting is posted until midnight the day class starts. My favourite homework assignments are when you have to compare and contrast whatever you may be learning about like two theories or different events (don't know if that makes sense). Im not ready for school and I have to work up until school, ugh stressed. I also feel behind already.
See that's kind of a blessing in disguise because now you can enjoy your break from school like you should! Plenty of time to get things together when school actually starts. Definitely do drug cards with your index cards you bought! that way they're small enough to fit in your pocket at clinical, easy to jot notes down, etc.
another tip with drugs, when trying to think of what side effects go with what drug (because there's so many and you'll never know it all!), think of the route of administration. for example, if it's a PO drug, it's gonna pass through the digestion system and so a side effect would more than likely be upset stomach.

Editing to say: my school also uses Kaplan and as you get closer to the NCLEX and you know more info it is really helpful! I hated it when I first started because I felt like I knew nothing but I really like it.
