I think its just the no healing scene which is an issue for me, although I tried to amend to it recently... Yes, God can do what He wants to, but there is no record that Jesus said "no" to healing, especially to those who really believed in Him and possibly those who were close to Him.
I understand now that the Chosen is trying to relate these scenes with our daily struggles (to believers and also non believers) this is totally great, but when it comes to historical accounts and accuracy of Jesus, this issue is not mentioned, so deviating or adding more to the context seems like a mistake because we can't say for sure that Jesus said "no" to healing a believer in the scripture... since it is silent or not mentioned, we should let it remain that way.
And it seems like the Chosen tried to cram in these struggles into the historical accounts of Jesus.
I understand that the Chosen wants to add some stuff to the narrative but when it comes to Jesus and everything He does in scripture, nothing should be deviated too drastically from what He does which could contradict the actual accounts of Him we have today (His historicity).
If your goal is to show authentic Jesus based on scripture with slight deviations that's accurate to the context in scripture that is understandable, but deviating too drastically will make it seem that's a different Jesus. In other words, the show is fictional itself, making it more fictional will depict a different Jesus.

That’s the issue I have with it as well. I feel like it’s dangerous scripturallh to have Jesus do or jot down things that the Bible doesn’t speak on. There’s a little more wiggle room with the disciples, so long as it still follows or doesn’t contradict the historical accounts we have of them too. But I don’t like the way some of these changes feel like putting words in God’s mouth, so to speak. That being said, the chosen also never claims to be a replacement for the Bible and I hope it is just encouraging more people to read scripture and the true story behind it all.

Amen to that. I mean, this video says it perfectly towards the beginning, "create an authentic Jesus." The problem is that they are trying to "create...Jesus" and that is the reason I cannot bring myself to watch this show. Jesus is not a character in a story, He is our Savior and our source for His teachings and His words is in the Bible. Anything outside of the Bible is not Biblical. Having Jesus do things that the Bible doesn't talk about is just wrong to me.

Technically speaking, Jesus did effectively "refuse" an immediate healing (John 11:3-21) when Lazarus's sisters give him early notice that Lazarus is sick. In fact, Jesus INTENTIONALLY waited two extra days so that Lazarus could die, so that He would raise him from the dead and showcase God's glory. The clear implication from the text is they asked in genuine faith, but Lazarus wasn't healed when they wanted....interesting, no?
Not to mention (Mark 6:5-6) in Nazareth where Jesus's healing/miracles are impeded because of the people's lack of faith. And as such, Jesus "refuses" to do things that otherwise would have been done in differing circumstances. And considering Jesus is united with The Father, don't even get me started on the OT. Either way, this notion of Jesus "always" healing or "never refusing" a healing is not found within Scripture -- irrespective of the reason. Conceptually, it works.
Personally, I theorize Dallas & co. are using Jesus' actions with Lazarus as a precursor to what will eventually happen with Ramah (resurrection in a future season). All of the doubts, questioning Jesus, all of it included just for a glorious reunion between Thomas and his lover. But either way, I think its' justified within Scripture both literally & theologically.

If so can you give the reference that would be helpful. I've seen comments below that any lack of healing now is due to the person's lack of faith, I'm guessing you're very young people who haven't yet experienced serious life ending illnesses in friends or family members who were faith filled Christians to the end who've died. Those kind of comments can lead to people losing faith in God altogether when life hits hard.

Christians are born of the word it says in Peter. If it’s in the Word then it’s our inheritance as believers and children of God. There are many promises for healing in scripture. Life is real and it hurts when the enemy/sin/sickness touch us on a personal level, but the Word of God remains faithful and true. I find that incredibly Hope filled and powerful that God always wants to heal us. I find it much more disturbing if we’re having faith in a God who chooses based on his mysterious sovereign will who gets healed and who doesn’t. That’s not what the early church believed, they trusted in Gods unchanging character as a good Father. Simply put, Jesus was the image of the invisible God and we have no record of him ever saying no to healing. So I go with that rather than human experiences. 🙏

I’m glad that the show tackles the reality that God doesn’t always choose to heal someone. There’s no reason to assume that the disciples would have been immune to suffering loss even with Jesus present, because God just doesn’t heal everyone. That’s hard to grapple with as a Christian. Knowing that He can do anything, but doesn’t always choose to. But not understanding why doesn’t change the fact that He’s still our God of comfort and peace, and that He loves us. They’re handling all this really well so far.

@@jannaswanson271 Maybe read 2 Corinthians 12:7-10. Paul had some bodily affliction which he asked the Lord take from him 3 times, but God refused, because the testimony of God’s goodness and power was greater as a result of Paul being infirm, yet still having the power of God manifested through him.
If you want an example from the gospels, take the people at the pool of Bethesda. When Jesus healed the paralytic there, He didn’t heal anyone else, and there were many people there who had come for a chance to be healed by the water. If you want to make it about asking for healing, the paralytic He healed in that case didn’t ask for healing. In fact, the opposite was true; Jesus asked HIM if he wanted to be healed.
There was also the time that Jesus’ own friend, Lazarus, died. In that case, He purposely put off going to see Lazarus when he was sick and only went after he had died. While not in the text, I don’t see any way that Mary and Martha would not have been beseeching God before Jesus came to save their brother BEFORE he died. And sure, Jesus raised him from death, but he still didn’t heal his own friend while he was sick.
The point is that God doesn’t always choose to heal someone when they ask. It’s not a matter of not having enough faith; in fact there’s a precedent in the gospels for that: That instance where a paralytic’s friends broke through the roof of a house to get their friend close to Jesus. Jesus doesn’t remark upon the paralytic’s faith, but that of his friends. For all we know, the paralytic himself may have doubted whether he’d be healed or not, but Jesus still healed him. So at the very least, it’s not necessarily up to the individual’s faith in God’s ability to heal that determines whether He will heal or not. And any belief that purports that we can compel God to heal just by having enough faith is unbiblical. Conversely, there’s plenty of biblical support for the fact that God doesn’t always decide to heal or save someone from earthly peril. At this point, it’s a matter of whether you’re willing to accept that His ways and thoughts are higher than yours, and that He’s still good even if He chooses not to do what you ask. It seems to me that believing and trusting that He has good reasons for not healing takes more faith than the school of thought that purports that God isn’t compelled to move unless you believe hard enough. It actually seems to me that the reason why anyone would believe the latter is because they couldn’t accept that God is still good even when He chooses not to heal. That’s a faith issue, as well as an issue with one’s conception of who God is. If you can’t cope with the reality that God says “no” sometimes, you might have to check your heart against what Scripture actually says.

Or what about the testimony of Job, whom God allowed to suffer without ever telling him why he was allowed to suffer so greatly? Job’s testimony seems to tell us that it’s not given to us to know every, if any, of the reasons why God may allow us to suffer. Like God said through Isaiah, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways.” Not everything He does is going to make sense to us. However, after more thought, I think where they’re heading with this is entirely plausible for how Thomas is depicted in the gospels, and “if” they end up resurrecting her later (as hinted by Dallas), which would be foreshadowed by Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead after ALLOWING him to die - this will be a very impactful, yet bold writing decision which highlights the difficulties of what it means to follow Jesus. To be fair, that portion of the prayer in John 17 is specifically referring to the 12 disciples/apostles -- which is only reiterated by the specificity in v:20-23 which applies to ALL who come to believe in His name. With that in mind, we know for a fact that God allows painful things to happen to His followers for His purposes. So yes, Jesus did keep them "safe" -- but that doesn't necessarily mean they were impervious to difficult trials, nor would it imply a contradiction in Jesus's character if He doesn't instantaneously heal someone. I hope that the show doesn’t make Judas out to be “trying to do the right thing” and duped into betraying Jesus. I see the build up right now and hope it doesn’t make Judas’ decision empathetic.
And, I thought the scene where Mary was dolling out advice and Roumie was venting was a bit odd.

For some reason my comment was deleted (by CZcams?) so I'm trying to post once more.
I believe "embellishing" for a TV show isn't a good thing.
It reminds me of the bible verse Rev 22:18-19: "I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll."
You don't need to add ANYTHING to a television show based on Jesus that isn't in the bible. One of my favorite scenes was of Jesus and the bleeding woman, that is a good example of something from the bible that hits hard. It was well done. The scene where Jesus calls Peter onto the water, while good, made me uncomfortable. It kept flashing to Peters wife and her giving birth (this isn't biblically accurate) and it made me very uncomfortable.
Having said this, God can use ALL things for His glory. One huge positive that can come out of this TV show is it can bring people to open up the word of God more and read about it for themselves. We should be careful though, as Christians, what we encourage in our secular world.

Respectfully, that’s false, as Jesus refused to immediately heal Lazarus & instead intentionally allowed him to die (John 11:3-21), now granted, Jesus eventually ended up raising Lazarus from the dead - but to assert that Jesus never “refused a healing” is false. You also have to keep in mind the times when Jesus refused to heal people when the people’s faith were lacking. Also, keeping in mind the implications of Jesus walking amongst the sick & healing ONE particular person? (Now granted, it doesn’t explicitly state that but one could reasonably infer that.) And, in the context of the Ramah scene, I believe Jesus’ words to Thomas imply that He will eventually resurrect Ramah as well, and the Lazarus sequence will be a foreshadowing to that.
Jesus does heal people & offer restoration, but He’s never healed “everyone” who asks for reasons only He would know. That message is true even today, which is partly what the show writers are going for.

It is not that this fact necessarily changes the message it’s just interesting how we depict Jesus in pretty much all media

Most of the Chosen is not biblically accurate. Even Dallas Jenkins says 95% of the show is fiction.

They say it doesn't matter what Jesus looked like, but why does he look the same in all motion pictures? I want to watch the series but its hard getting passed its whitewashing

He actually has Egyptian syro-Lebanese background. That doesn’t seem stereotypical white. Also, lots of the actors are of middle eastern background.

Jews are fair-skinned so it makes sense for Jesus to have fair skin. Many middle-easterns have fair skin as well, but probably Jews the most out of Semitic people because they always frowned upon mixing with other peoples. The only reason why some Semetic people are brown skinned is because they are mixed with Arabs who don't have as much of an issue with racial mixing and are themselves largely of Egyptian descent. The concept of Semitic people being a brown people is American-centric nonsense.

That's one issue. When people think Christ. They see the actor. It violates the 2nd commandment. It is a graven image. Jesus was nothing special to look at.

@@rogervincent2092 wouldn’t the graven images have to do with worshipping those images as if they’re idols? You’re also calling a human being who is an actor portraying a biblical character a graven image. Atenta humans made in the image and likeness of God?

So I'm guessing you're part of the " they " that get bothered by skin color they portray Jesus based on your statement. Whenever you get to met Jesus if his skin shade is not to your liking will you turn your back and reject him?
