    • @A_Frog_from_mars12
      @A_Frog_from_mars12 Před 2 lety +2

      its a common misconception that the higher the octane a fuel is, the more volatile it is. one thing I've learned while training to become a power engineer is, that's simply not the case, higher octane fuels are able to withstand much higher compression ratios without prematurely combusting in the combustion chamber. they are designed to burn efficiently in large 4 stroke sports car engines with high compression. thus, cheaper lower octane fuels contain more stored energy, but they burn way too quick to run efficiently in engines with large strokes, like corvette engines. so the hop rod probably wouldn't even run at all on 98 octane fuel, and if it does, it would run extremely rich, and dump the majority of the unburnt fuel out the exhaust port. the compression is too low.

The spark is unreliable on mine. I plan on vamping it some day with a model engine spark plug, an ignition coil, and an accelerometer to make it fire at the right time. The arches of my feet are still messed up from trying to get it to work right 30 years ago.

    So they quit making these because of liability, people getting hurt. Probably mostly their own fault not paying attention what they're doing. Like most people in this ad, just standing on it getting bounced around, not actually controlling it. Banned toys like clackers, the 2 balls on a string, and of course law darts and later 3 wheelers. Hell, i'm surprised chess and checkers haven't been banned because of choking hazard. I think these are cool and should still be available, not really riskier than skateboards, bicycles, motorcycles, etc. Even kind of lame compared to the new generation of high power x-treme pogo's using elastic rubber bands. Hop on.

      The commercial specifically says all you have to do is hang on and the engine powers you back up. The people just standing on it getting bounced around were doing it correctly. It was the morons who tried to ride it like a regular pogo stick who got the broken ankles that resulted in the product being discontinued. When they would ride it like a regular pogo stick by jumping, the engine would shoot it up faster than you could jump, shooting it into their feet with such force that it broke their ankles. So contrary to your comments, the people in the commercial were using the product as intended. Sounds like you would've been one of the people with broken ankles had you used it. 😂
