Rohit, You say you read every comment. Keeping that in mind I'm writing this. Hope you will read this letter (kind of biography) that's a little longer. First of all, your modesty and politeness in this video (episode ) -- like in others too -- are reflected from your attitude of learning even from your viewers, although most human beings are defensive about their inaccuracies or deficiencies. Your dedication to this fine art and constant saadhana have made you very humble. Hindustani Classical Music is like an ocean, the more you go into the details, the more fathomless it becomes. I have been practicing off and on the basic swars for years and yet I can't identify a note immediately on listening. Nor can I identify the komal swars. As an amateur vocalist, I have been singing (movie songs, ghazals, or Sugam sangeet) since my school days in the 60's. My first stage performance at the age of 9 was a patriotic song when the Chinese invasion of India in 1962 was still on and people were being trained how to run into trenches when an area is bombed. (You must not have been born then! :) Since then, I have been singing off and on through out my life. I'm still attached to learning and singing, but apparently haven't advanced much. I often remark about my relationship with music in the following words: "I have left music several times in my life; but, music hasn't left me." In my retirement, I want to keep my passion for Hindustani music alive. It should also be helpful in slowing down the deterioration of my brain and aid my breathing practice. With this expression of my resolve to keep my interest in music alive, let me also confess that I'm a chronic procrastinator who couldn't maintain regularity and constancy. Regular reyaz, therefore, becomes a victim. I try to hide behind excuses. I regularly watch your video presentation and get inspired and organized. I hope to keep improving.
