  • ✝️ “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11 verses 28-30 New International Version
✝️ And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.”
Mark 6 verse 31 English Standard Version
In the past 2 months I’ve had 2 emergency room visits each requiring immediate surgery plus one follow-up surgery (none hiking related). Needless to say, my doctors say I need to rest and recover before going on any long, strenuous hiking or backpacking adventures. Back in January we made lodging reservations for Stehekin. I’m thankful to be done with medical emergencies (hopefully) and that we could still make our scheduled trip to Stehekin. However, our activities had to be adjusted -- no long, steep hikes or vigorous exercise. Fortunately, Stehekin has plenty of activities that are less strenuous.
We thoroughly enjoyed the long holiday weekend. We had a fantastic time boating, biking, walking, and eating at the Bakery. We had never been to Stehekin before, but we will definitely be returning. There are still many places we didn’t have time to visit and new activities we want to try and plenty of activities will be repeated.

Ermygersh!!! We were totally there at the same time! (6th - 8th tho…) I have to admit I’m still kind of emotional. We had so much fun and peace there. Anyways, for next time: there is a trail behind the golden west visitor center. It’s called the “imus” loop. If you go up to the first bridge, there is a little path that goes back into the vegetation and you can see the very peaceful imus falls. Then, if you go all the way up to the end of the road, you can see the glorious car wash falls! (That being said tho, you do have to make a bit of a sketchy step over a giant gouge that got pounded into the rock by a flash flood to get there.) in my opinion? Best place to cool off in some water. Just standing under those falls. The water isn’t frigid and the falls themselves are just beautiful.
Thank you for sharing this video. I really really miss that place already.
