Sirui Nightwalker Set - 6 Month Review

- Grabbed the set on release day & have been using them a load. Figured I should throw together a review - took way longer than I expected it to.
They're an awesome set, maybe not for everyone but definitely excellent value for money.
Shout if you have any questions in the comments & I'll do my best.
(Post-release note: the listed focal equivalents on the Sirui site are incorrect for XH2S shooters, as they appear to have been made with Komodo shooters in mind, which is a 1.42x crop factor - and are therefore incorrect in this video, the actual equivs for Fujifilm cameras are: 36mm, 52.5mm & 82.5mm. Naturally though, no two focal length lenses present the exact same FOV, so always take these figures with that in mind)

just got the 16 mm yesterday. So far I'm loving it. Thinking about getting the entire set.

Best review I've seen of these lenses so far. The test shots were very nice, you could really get a feel for how good they can look. I also liked the comparison between the different focal lengths. Overall a really nice video!

Theres now a 16 mm (24mm equivalent) and 75 (112-113mm equiv) also as a new arrival, so both wider and narrower long shots are available now. Full set costs around 1600$ for 5 primes, which is crazy good value for full mm coverage of the shots.
Yeah man, I'm keen to get my hands on the 16mm in particular. They're excellent value for sure
Had my eye on these set of lenses for the past few weeks since I bought a Fuji XH2S and wanted to shoot more video, such perfect time to see this! Some of the shots you got with the 24mm were so damn good.
100% recommend if you’re after a relatively cheap set of cine primes 🙏🏼 they’ve done me very well
@@lazyvideoguy773 you do any stills with them? I'm only reluctant because I'm a bit of a hybrid shooter and don't want to have to keep swapping lenses 😅
@@calvinmakesfilms there’s nothing stopping you, they’re sharp enough if you’re happy manual focusing, but the long focus throw makes for quite a slow manual process potentially. Take a look at the Sirui Sniper set, I reckon they’re the same glass rehoused with AF
I'm new to shooting video and I just do it as a hobby. I own the 24mm. Your recommendations about using these lenses with a monitor and follow focus seem spot on to me. Something I'm saving up for. Right now I use the EVF mainly to get the focus right. Thanks for the vid.

Thanks for subscribing man! Everything was shot on the XH2S yeah, if I ever need a shot of the camera I shoot on an XT3, but this time round it’s all XH2S
What camera did you use? I'm assuming bmcc 6k since it looks open gate? or lumix s5iix?

good video. I was looking into buying some of them, but this video made me reconsider. Those aberrations are just too much. I guess I'll just get a photo lens... No cool cine lenses for me :D
Yeah man, finding clean cine lenses for cheap is near impossible, if you want minimal aberration for cheap, photo lenses are probably preferable

Nice MX5! I've currently got an X-H2s and the Remus lenses are making me consider changing system to FF next year... didn't consider a PL - X speedbooster though! Do you think the speedbooster softens the image even more?
Cheers dude! My experience so far with speedboosters generally is that I get an either sharper image or it’s the same as native (bar one faulty unit that had an odd softness)
I’d always say whatever camera is going to allow you to shoot what you want to shoot without compromise man!

Yeah man I used to be canon FF, then Sony S35 with an FS5 as my A cam, now Fujifilm & every system has its pros and cons, my priorities always lie with DR & what I can get out of the colours, so for now Fuji is scratching the itch, I do miss the XLRs and form factor of the FS5 though

nice video! what crop factor has you camera?
It's an APSC / Super 35mm size sensor, so compared to full frame its a '1.5x crop', but in relation to Super 35mm up to 6K30p & 4k60p has no crop, whereas 100/120p has a small crop of something like 1.1x (I forget, it might be 1.25x)

I asked because maybe Fuji had less crop factor than Sony. Thank you so much!
@@brunocannavina Ah of course! Apologies for the misunderstanding, the Sirui site lists the equivalent focal lengths, which are the standard focal length multiplied by a factor of 1.4, rather than 1.5x, so you're correct to be confused!
Should have tested the equivalents really to get to the bottom of why they do that, I suppose it should be 36, 52.5 & 82.5. I wonder if the lenses are a hair wider than they list, or if it's simply an error from Sirui
@@brunocannavina Nevermind, I figured it out, the Red Komodo is a 1.42x crop factor, so they presumably targeted the Nightwalkers at RED users & list the equivalents for Komodo shooters. So my equivalents in the video are incorrect, apologies for the misinformation!
