There's something eerily comforting in his voice. He's not a technically amazing singer- he reminds me much of myself. He just puts the intimacy, the nakedness of his pain out front. He's amazing in kind of an everyman way.
Dude YES! He played this song with so much feeling, damn good stuff. He should put out some unplugged singles of old Failure songs.. god I want to hear more!
I know this song is about drugs but it reminds me of a very bad relationship I had...whenever I listen to it it brings back the pain but I can't stop listening. Love it so much
^uhh, that sort of response goes for someone like Dave Mustaine, but Ken Andrews is objectively a great singer. He might not be flashy (or "classically good"), but definitely not "average at best". He hits and holds notes pitch perfectly live, and has insane control over dynamics. I think you're confusing Ken's vocal talent with the general apathetic feel the vocal lines were written and recorded in.
Eddie Vedder's voice became kind of a cliche, because it's so imitable. Ken just sort of scoops the pain out out from the stomach and soul, and thusly he sounds different from song to song. That's what I love about his soft baritone.
I wish failure was still around.. amazing. I almost prefer this version to the studio version. I can relate to Fantastic Planet so much as a recovering addict.
Wow these videos are fantastic, thanks for posting... hehe great to see this song done in a simple stripped down fashion, have often played the song like this myself, ken you genius
@hermie2000; I used to think the same thing. I am one of Failure's biggest fans. I even saw them in 1996. Please don't take too lightly the influence of Greg Edwards. Without him, Failure wouldn't have been Failure. Kelli Scott's drums are very important too. If you need proof of Greg's genius, listen to anying by Autolux. And, for Kelli Scott's great drumming check out The Brontosaur's LP. EXCELLENT stuff.

Fantastic Planet was SOOOO way ahead of its time. The masses are finalyl starting to come around and realize Failure's genius. Bring on the reunion!
I got to see Failure twice at Lollapalooza on the same day. One of the best days of my life. Ken is a very nice guy in person, too.
One of my favorite Fantastic Planet songs (right with "Heliotropic")

genius he is, with all of his projects
Best album EVER!!!
It's really cool to see how much love you all have for failure. I always thought I was the only one back in the mid nineties.
People always talk about how great a singer Eddie Vedder is.. And he is. But where is the love for Ken Andrews?
pureblackeagle Ken isn't classically good. He's an average at best singer. what he does just happens to fit the music so perfectly though.

cool fisheye lens. I have to get this record out and play it again.
Jazzmasters also have single coils but they have wide flat pick ups that makes them sound different to a jag.
