  • SPOILDER Alert: I highly recommend seeing Honor Among Thieves before watching this :) I saw Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves with my D&D party and had a blast! Let me know what you think... was the Bard class unfairly portrayed?
    Thanks for watching!

The main class I play is bard and oddly enough, I didn't notice the lack of spellcasting until it was said to me. My bards usually are the reason the party is in trouble and I rarely am the one to get us out of it. So Edgin really resonated with me. It is a great movie and I loved it.

Well, he did successfully talk his way into a pardon! 😂
I think, given he is the "main" character, he really needed to not be very useful in other areas. Having a main character is already counter to the spirit of D&D. I think they were trying to maintain balance within the party. If they erred in any direction, I think it was making the Druid too awesome! 🦉🐻‍❄️🪰🦌

Bards have always been a misunderstood class and always will be. My friends and I played 2nd edition and I made a lot of effort to revise the Bard and Monk classes to beef them up and make them more interesting.
I always fed the Bard more information than the other characters (via slipping them pieces of paper with inside information), just because I felt the bard should know more legends and lore than others.
I also gave bards the time in the local tavern to sing songs and build the party a good reputation locally. My wife played a bard and I made sure she always felt good about her character's place within the group. Bards can be awesome.

He definitely used his Inspiration Dice on his allies.

Well said. Bards are really fun to play. This movie didn't do it justice at all. Shame, really.
    Another great vid, OPW.

I disagree with you that Edgin was useless. He was very useful, not only planning, but also keeping moral up, encouraging others, being supportive. If it wasn't for him, the group would have quit, both on the the whole and individually.
I also disagree with you on bards. I hate the class, I think it makes no sense and is impossible to fit into a sensible character concept. At least, one for me.

The part that bothered me is the why... seemed like a movie, not d&d. Retrieve a magic item to resurrect the bard's wife with while saving the bards daughter from a guy who, besides wanting to be rich and powerful, wants to be a Dad. Do the first three books of Drizzt or Tomb of Horrors... those are great classic D&D stories just waiting to come to life on the screen.
