Wait a minute...the alien invaders said that the humans had 12 hours left.
So we deciphered alien comms, traveled to asteroids, found ancient alien tech, deciphered that, brought it back to Earth, figured out how to intergrate it, retro fitted it to our ships, then launched a test attack...all within 12 hours.
Damn...humans are bad ass

I’m not sure but I believe the use of grim makes it mean like determination with a mix of a little uncertainty
