Is there a need to keep that test button depressed for so long? surely not, that instrument is capable of retaining the reading on the screen once the test button is activated just once.

what are those labels on the cables inside the patress?

Farooq Ntale circuit labels, say if there was a bunch of circuits going into a three phase board it's easier to identifier the circuit
