PSA: You no longer need to download the beta. You just need the latest software update and you're good 👍
thank you
You’re amazing, thanks!
This is the best video to explain and show stuff about the SSD 😀🙌
Great video with step by steps
Like! Very well and descriptive video! Thanks for Sharing
Awesome instruction!
You are a genius ! thanks for the idea !
Thank you. Best video to explain it all.
Great video thanks.
I was about to say how did he get the new software update that came out yesterday when the video's a month old (it wasn't the installing and using an M.2 card that gave it away, it was the PS5 / PS4 logo on each game in his library), but then I noticed the "Beta 2.0" in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
Anyway, great update with lots of new handy features, and useful video. Got my 980 Pro and a heatsink in the mail today.
Word of warning please don't use heatsinks that use rubber bands to hold it together as the amount of heat the heatsink give off will melt the rubber bands and ruin your ps5.
I've tested Gen 4 drives with 5000Mbps speeds that worked just fine. Of course this video is a bit old and it's been updated. Even seen people go as low as 3900Mbps Gen 4 drives and it worked.
Thinking about buying this corsair ssd but i wonder if it will work fine without the cover for the m.2 slot
Thanks
Where did you get that Mat that you have the PS5 placed on?
Those specs didn't change but the real thing that matter is that it is a gen 4 card so even the slowest gen 4 card will work.
很详细 谢谢
Just to let everyone know, seating your SSD make take multiple attempts to get it installed proper. It took me 4 try's before my PS5
recognized the M.2 drive.
I tried a few times until I herd it go in property but my PS5 took only 1 attempt to recognize it
@@redscorpion9325 I often herd
Did u get a message from your ps5 when u turned it on
What size screwdriver do you need for the small black screw?
If i install my M.2 SSD on my Ps5, will my current data and games be deleted, or will it still be there when i install my SSD?
Help please! I bought the Samsung 980 Pro SSD and have tried about 30 times to get it to click/seat and it just won't do it. It goes in the slot but its not firm/clicking no matter how hard I push or what angle I go in at. I have put it in and plugged it back in and started up the PS5 4 different times as well to check, and it's not recognizing it. Any thoughts? Thank you!
And 8TB Corsair works too ?
i bought a “Playstation 5 Compatable” SSD but im not sure if it came with a heatsink and im 90% sure its been overheating and causing my ps5 to turn off when i’m playing a game.
Is this not a official release software
If I'm not mistaken, there is now an LPX version with lower profile heatsink that fits the PS5 perfectly? Can someone confirm?
Can confirm. Fits right in.
I just installed this same SSD and I got 5600 for my speed, why the heck is my speed so much lower than yours?! Maybe I have a faulty drive?
After installing my drive I get a "cannot format drive" error. Anyone else ran into this problem?
Is there a change in temperatures i.e from stock heat sink to aftermarket
I was told the aftermarket heat sinks are just as good if not better than stock heat sinks. Source: Microcenter
Do I need those picks to swap the heat sink, and if I do, where can I get them?
It looks like it helps. You can get them from a local guitar center, music store, or online, I'm sure Walmart has them. They're pretty cheap, $5 for 10. Make sure to get light/thin picks - less than 0.5 mm in thickness.
@@loub5020 I returned this SSD because I had to improvise to get it in, and it didn't work for my PS5 anyways, so I went with a Firecuda 530 instead
Can someone tell me when uts avalible to non beta users
I have bought WD Black SN850 1Tb without the Heatsink. I bought a heatsink for it too. Do I need to peel off the sticker on SSD (label where stands model, name etc.) before I apply the Heatsink or should I leave it on and just apply the Heatsink over the sticker?
you have to remove the sticker. the termal paste should directly touch the chips on the ssd as well as the metal of the heatsink.
@@Bartimaeeus yup, when I got the Stick I saw it and removed the sticker, because it makes no sense to put it over the sticker. It was a somewhat silly question but I wanted to know and hear it from someone who already did that. But it didn't turned si nice did it 😅
Still trying to get my hands on a PS5 since it came out. Sad face.
does anyone know the screw size for the screw that is used for the spacer that goes under the ssd?
Idk but please lml if u find out cuz that’s literally holding me back
@@purity6024 who cares its a small phillips... try a small one....
@@shezie9525 you 8 months late
is it necessary to put the spacer or not
yes
Hey i tried to sign up to the beta i used your link but when i click sign up now i get a fail code 404! Any tips on what i can do?
not usa ip? :p not usa account?
What's the benefit of and ssd besides the extra storage?
Faster in every way compared to an HDD... the read and write speeds don't do a lot for people that don't understand. In essence, the faster information can be processed = the faster things can load on said storage. A game on a an HDD will load a lot slower than the same game on a SSD.
You can't play PS5 games off of anything other than the internal SSD, or this expansion slot, because it has to be fast enough for games that take advantage of the loading/data streaming speed in game (Spiderman, Ratchet and Clank).
External USB drives can't go fast enough (USB 3 limitation), and so you can only play PS4 games off of it.
So if your 650GB of PS5 internal storage is full with PS5 games, you need this unless you want to delete games to make more room.
Its just storage space bud its not gone make your graphics or speeds faster lol
The Thousand of videos on CZcams on how to install the SSD might be useful if Sony would release the Damn software to do it, Damn Sony it’s been a Year.
It's rolling out globally starting tomorrow. 9.15.21
Dude, relax
so does it work well ? I heard that they were doubling back to the ps5s pre installed ssd that the component came with ...
I can’t screw down my M.2. The standoff screw I should be using is too tight and I cant get it out without damaging the screw at this point.
Are u just using u drive without the spacer?
@@purity6024 Yup, works fine without the spacer but would obviously be better with
@@omi954 i think the spacer is threaded as well maybe not
Ever since I installed mines, my PS5 randomly shuts off by itself… Can anybody tell me what I did wrong by any chance?
You have a M.2 that is not 100% compatible with the PS5 its prob made for PC but can work on some PS5s. Get one made for the ps5 exclusively
@@shezie9525 Yeah I eventually found that out bro lol
Does running PS5 without the white covers improve thermals?
No. Just like a PC, the cooling system is designed so all the air pulled by the fan comes through the designed air intakes, which directs it over the components that need it for max cooling. Taking the cover off allows air to be pulled in from other unintended areas which will only harm cooling if anything.
This especially applies to the ssd bay cover, don't leave it off.
The plastic PS4 white cover probably don't make a ton of difference on or off because they are not actually covering components, the internal metal frame is. But possibly they are designed in shape to help "guide" the airflow into the vents of the center black plastic section that they surround.
@@dragons_red nice try sony fanboy, but it does help with thermals

Gen 4 m.2 are expensive af!
Depends on the size and brand. I bought the 2tb corsair CORE which is going for 240 USD in most places right now. Its the lowest end gen4 m.2 ssd from them. The advertised read speeds are at 5GB/s vs Sony min of 5.5GBs, but other users are reporting not only does PS5 accept them, they report them as 5.5 GBs read speed after the test and have no issues using them.
The only problem may be quality, lasting.
The WD sn850 is the one Sony/Cerny recommends, which is fast, quality and runs 340 USD for a 2TB right now which isn't bad. Obviously you can go 1TB and save $100 if money is super tight.
If you don't "need" one right now, wait until Christmas possibly. As now this is open to all PS5 users, prices will go down as people are buying them more, and Christmas is going to potentially bring sales, black friday, etc.
I don’t recommend that heatsink with that rubber band it’s not safe
Why?
@@dragons_red melts
The spacer is supposed to go under the ssd!
Yeah so many of these videos doing the same mistake, lol.
@@dragons_red Yeap, blind leading the blind, saga. This is why you cant listen to everyone making suggestions/instructional videos!
That’s bullshit because mine doesn’t even want to work? I got sn850
just don't put that cover back....a larger heatsink its better
Agreed 😎
It needs the cover on it for the cooling system to work right it uses negative air flow to cool it.
Put the cover back, the cooling system is designed to work with the cover on.
@@joshkring1727 I put the cover back on but it is touching the heat sync is that okay?
@@jamesrwhitaker5028 As long as it is barely touching and you didn't have to push on it to close. The latter is bad and may physically damage the drive, or worse, the slot.
And to the OP, like others said, that cover is for the airflow across the heatsink to work optimally. Opening will allow air to be pulled in from all other areas, slowing down the velocity and also bypassing the heatsink altogether.
I am ordering the same brand in the video here, but I am going to try to keep the too big heatsink it comes with on mine. I am working on a way to mod the bay cover to give it more headroom to accommodate it. I assume the manufacturer is using a larger HS for a good reason, as it likely needs it to perform to spec.
As an SSD gets hot, it slows down, and if it gets too hot, you kill it (quicker).
I'd rather just cover the bay with tape and plastic than put a smaller heatsink on it.
i don't recommend to get a 1TB hard drive, 2TB should suffice, you will be looking to expand again soon if you do. Trust me. Especially when PSVR 2 comes out.
1.6TB internal storage + 1TB external hard drive will be sufficient for me
How many games can you play at once? 1.6TB for PS5 games and 4TB external HD for PS5 storage games and PS4 games.
For you. Everyone is different, and so should get what they need. A most PS5 owners aren't going to get VR, either because they don't care, can't afford, or like me it makes them sick.
Many people only play a few games at a time and may never need the expansion slot, they will just delete games they are done with to add a new one. In other words, most are casuals .
@@dragons_red Good point!
not if you run discs,,, digital games eat up storage and discs contains most of the gbs instead of the ssds
That heatsink ain't doing much its a waste of money tbh
As if uncle boomer here plays console games
Bad choice for ssd
@@timotheelucero4388 Everybody an expert.
I would guess because it's a cheaper brand, so higher risk of failure, and it's not as fast as WD or Samsung.
As other videos have discussed, the games aren't taking advantage of those 7GBs read speeds (in game) by a long shot. Even if you slap in the low end gen4 m.2 drives that are advertised at 5GBs (and Sony's stated minimum is 5.5), the PS5 will accept it, test it and report 5.5, and the games work flawlessly.
So the only concern for cheaper drives is the usual for cheaper computer parts, greater chance of getting a dud.
Agreed, I got the same ssd and it stopped working after 4 months
3rd Step.
DONT DO WHAT SONY SAYS.
A VOUCHER CODE TO INSTALL your paid owned HD.
THIS IS bS.
boycott SONY.
Easy, that was beta, don’t matter now, but yeah you do that, I’ll be over here enjoying the greatest console made to date.
